12 million reasons to keep spinning Mega Moolah!

We are heading towards the midway point of March and still there is no sign of the next big money Mega Moolah progressive jackpot winner. Since the last winner on the 30th December 2019, the jackpot has climbed to smash through the 12 million barrier.

This is an exciting time as while the jackpot has been awarded over the 10 million mark on seven different occasions, it has climbed above the 12 million mark on just four of those occasions. The last time coming in March 2019 when one player landed a US Dollar prize of over $12.9 million.

It also means that we are still waiting for our first big Mega Moolah winner of the new decade and it seems whoever that player is, will be celebrating with a massive win that is going to change their lifestyle immeasurably for the better.

The exciting fact about the biggest Mega Moolah jackpots

What makes this latest jackpot prize so exciting is that history has shown that when you land one sizeable jackpot prize others often follow in quick succession. It took nine years from the release of the game until Jon Heywood's first ever 10 million plus win in October 2015, but then what happened was unprecedented.

Mr Heywood's Guinness World Record win of over £13.2 million was thought at the time to likely be a very rare event. Most jackpots up until this point had been awarded from 1 million up to 6 million, with very few outside of this amount, indeed the biggest win on record, in numerical terms, came just before Mr Heywood's win in April 2015 with a Canadian Dollar win of over $7.5 million.

However, after that record-busting win, we then didn't see another big winner for 8 months, and by the time Rawiri Pou landed his big win in New Zealand Dollars, the jackpot had climbed to over 10 million once again. This meant that after almost ten years without a 10 million plus win, we now had two in a row.

However, it didn't end there. The fact that New Zealand Dollars are one of the weaker currencies you can play the game in, meant that there was still a fair amount of money left in the pot after Mr Pou had been paid out his winnings. Over the coming months, the jackpot quickly grew in size again and just over two months late in August 2016, we had the third 10 million plus winner.

This was a Canadian Player who landed a prize of just over $11.6 million. Then incredibly, the same thing that had just happened, happened again. Given the Canadian Dollar jackpot award left another sizeable amount in the prize pool, the jackpot began rising quickly again and then on Bonfire Night, the 5th November 2015, another Canadian Player landed a slightly larger prize of, you guessed it $11.6 million.

So in the space of just seven months, we had gone from having no jackpot winners over the 10 million mark on the Mega Moolah slot, to four in succession. A fifth however was not to be forthcoming, as just ten days after the second Canadian $11.6 million win, an Australian dollar player landed a prize of over $5.6 million.

What is notable however from the period from April 2015 to April 2017, is that the Mega Moolah jackpot paid out not only four prizes of over 10 million, but a further four prizes of over 7.5 million across the different currencies. It certainly seemed to be that when the jackpot rose to a much larger than usual amount, these bigger value wins tend to cluster together.

Another cluster of big money wins

Of course, when you have lots of money in the Mega Moolah jackpot and it is won on a less comparative valuable currency compared to the British Pound, then a lot of money will be left in the fund when the latest winner is paid out and that undoubtedly plays a key role in keeping the jackpot at higher levels over a sustained period of time.

However, the feeling was that once the prize pool had been emptied totally, that lower value wins would again become the norm and that indeed did seem to be the thing. After the two wins on May 22nd 2017, the only win of over 7.5 million over the next year or so came in September 2017. Most wins were once again, lower value between 1 million and 5 million.

However, then we had another cluster of big money wins which got started after the 19th/20th April when two winners of the jackpot prize were landed within 24 hours of each other. With the jackpot reset to its seed amount of 1 million (the second of these winners being a British Pound winner), over the next two months the prize fund climbed.

By the 20th June it has reached over 8.6 million before being won by a New Zealand player, and then we began a cluster of three of the biggest ever wins on the Mega Moolah slot, starting with a win of almost €19 million in September 2018, followed by a win of over CA$20 million in January 2019 and then to finish this cluster off a US Dollar win of just shy of $13 million in March 2019.

Since then, we have had just one win over $8 million, which came in May 2019, with most wins being between the 2 and 5 million mark since that point.

Why does the Mega Moolah seem to pay out big money prizes in clusters?

So now that the jackpot has risen to over 12 million and is still climbing at the time of writing, what is it that makes the game seem to pay out its big money prizes in clusters?

Well, we have already touched on one of the key reasons, which is that a lot depends on the currency in which the jackpot is won in. A win in US, Canadian or NZ Dollars means that a significant amount of the fund (which is held in the base currency of British Pounds) will remain in the pot after the jackpot has been paid in those other currencies.

That means that the next jackpot benefits from a sizeable amount remaining in the pot, and with the game already very popular with players chasing the big money prizes, this pot will increase rapidly too, which means that you get these bigger jackpot prizes.

The other factor to consider here is time, as happened when Jon Heywood landed his £13.2 million win in October 2015. After that win, there was a lengthy period of eight months before the next win and of course, over that time, the jackpot had time to grow to over 10 million.

Does that mean bigger jackpots will be won the next few times on Mega Moolah?

The truthful answer is we don't know for sure. History tends to suggest that this could be the case, especially if the next winner is one that lands their prize in New Zealand, Canadian or US Dollars, but in truth, someone could land the next jackpot in British Pounds, claim it in full and then another player could win the next jackpot a few hours later for just over the 1 million mark.

That's part of the beauty of the Mega Moolah slot - it is so unpredictable.

What is for certain is that with the jackpot now at over 12 million and continuing to rise, there will be a lot of players trying their luck on the game, in the hope of becoming the next big Mega Moolah millionaire!
