What currencies can I use to play Mega Moolah slots?

It is pretty common knowledge that the famous Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network of slots, which includes the original Mega Moolah, as well as the newer games Mega Vault Millionaire, Atlantean Treasures, Absolootly Mad and the newest Fortunium Gold slot, were designed by Microgaming, a company based in the Isle of Man.

As a part of the UK, the Isle of Man uses the British Pound as its main currency and so it is unsurprising that the base currency of the progressive jackpot series is indeed the British Pound.

That means for every jackpot prize amount you see on screen when you are playing the slot, that is the maximum amount in the prize pool at that time in British Pounds,

However, a quick look through the winners of the jackpot prize, reveals that the vast majority of players that land a Mega jackpot win, do not do so playing with the British Pound as their choice of currency. Indeed, wins have been reported in a number of currencies over the years, such as in New Zealand, Canadian and US Dollars and the Euro.

So how is playing with a currency that is different to the British Pound work on the Mega Moolah network of slot games? How can you play using your currency and still land the same high value wins that players from all over the world have done over the years when playing the game?

It does seem a somewhat complicated situation, but in actual fact Microgaming have come up with a very simple and effective way to work around these issues and it is a method that can be adapted to any currency in the world today.

Equivalent value

The first thing to note is that while the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network is based on British Pounds as its base currency, not every spin that is played on the game uses the British currency as its base.

Instead, Microgaming have allowed a number of other currencies in the world, such as those we mentioned previously, to be used when playing the game. So for example, if you are going to play Mega Moolah from Canada, you don't need to wager the equivalent of 0.25 in British Pound and Pence currency. Instead, you can wager 0.25 in Canadian Dollars when you play.

What then happens is that if you do win one of the progressive jackpot prizes (or indeed, any of the standard cash prizes that you can win on the slot game), you are also paid out in Canadian Dollars too. This is achieved by working out what the equivalent value of your bet is in British Pounds and then working out the same equivalent value of your win in British Pounds and then converting that into your chosen currency.

How does it work?

Here is a nice little example of how it would work in general and we are going to use today's value for the Canadian Dollar against the British Pound to explain how the system works.

Let's say a Canadian Player loads up Mega Moolah and decides to play spins at CA$0.25 per spin. The equivalent value for that spin in British Pounds, at the moment, is £0.15 per spin. That seems to show that Canadian Players have an advantage, as their spins are generally cheaper to play than British spins.

However, the flip side of that is if the Canadian Player in question wins a prize. Let's say that this lucky player lands the current jackpot prize, which stands at around £5,800,000. Of course, seeing as they are playing in Canadian Dollars, they would also win their prize in Canadian Dollars, which would equate to CA$5,800,000.

When you check the equivalent value of the Canadian Dollar win in British Pounds, it comes to (at today's exchange rate) around £3,378,376. This amount of money would then be removed from the prize pool, converted into the CA$5,800,000 prizes and awarded to the lucky Canadian player.

The remaining money in the prize pool (which would be around £2.42 million) is then left in the progressive jackpot prize pool for the next jackpot winner to win.

This process of working out the equivalent value for wins for every currency you can play on the Mega Moolah slot network is how it is possible for you to play using any number of currencies in the game, even including currencies that we have not seen progressive jackpot wins reported in.

For example, players in Sweden can win cash prizes in a number of their native currency as can players in Russia or India and this is often achieved by pairing up a local currency with one of the currencies that the Mega Moolah slots can be played in (the US Dollar or Euro tend to be the most popular ones).

So, if you were playing Mega Moolah in India using Rupees for example, your spin may cost you the equivalent in Rupees of US$0.25 or €0.25. The game will play in your chosen currency, but in terms of the mechanics of working out how much you win, the prizes will be worked out in one of the standard currencies and then converted into your local currency, just as in the example above.

This is why we report wins as being by players using US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, the Euro or British Pound as their choice of currency, rather than saying players in the United States, Canada or the UK. Because different currencies are available on the game across the world, it is feasible for a player in a country like Russia to play using US Dollars or Canadian Dollars and the win will be reported as that particular type of win.

So not all Canadian Dollar wins are from players in Canada, for example, although a good proportion of those may be. The only way you can be sure of that is if the player that lands the win opts to go public with their good fortune and you can confirm where they were based. If not, then the players location remains unknown in many cases.

The easiest wins to identify are those that are landed in the base currency of the game, British Pounds, as when this happens, all the money in the progressive jackpot prize pool is won and the game will revert back to its seed amount for the prize that has just been won. If that is the Mega Jackpot, that means the prize pool here will be won in full and it will revert back to the game minimum of £1,000,000. In terms of the Major jackpot, it is £10,000.

Cryptocurrency

There are also a couple of casinos that now offer the chance to play Mega Moolah slot games using cryptocurrency as your preferred payment option. Using crypto is very popular with millennials in particular and while these types of casinos are not yet as widespread as standard online casinos, they are growing rapidly in number and starting to offer a wide selection of games.

Again, the notion of equivalent value comes into play here with your spins in Bitcoin, or whatever cryptocurrency your casino permits, worked out based on the standard value in the game. Similarly your wins will be translated into Bitcoin amounts and paid to you in this format.

The best thing about using currency other than the British Pound for your Mega Moolah spins is that everything is worked out for you so that it is easy to follow and best of all, convenient for you based on your location.

Part of the global appeal of Mega Moolah is how easy it is to play across the globe and Microgaming's simple system to facilitate this works very well. Sure it does mean that not all jackpot wins will empty the Jackpot Prize Pool down to zero and it does mean a £10 million win in one currency may not be as valuable as another, but in terms of relevance to players, ease of use and suitability to where you are playing from, how Mega Moolah adopts the use of multiple currencies across the world to play the game is a lesson to all slots companies.
