Five of the best slots to play this Halloween!

This weekend will see one of the more unusual Halloween celebrations in the parts of the world where this particular date in the calendar is celebrated. While things may not be as gregarious as in years past, there will still be plenty of people that have their own private celebrations at home to celebrate the last day in October.

Of course, there are lots of ways you can celebrate Halloween, some people dress up, traditionalists in the UK may enjoy either duck apple (where you try to pick apples out of a bowl of water without using your hands) or bob apple (where an apple is tied to a piece of string and dangled in the air for you to try and eat without using your hands). More familiar nowadays though is the practice of trick or treat, although that will likely be severely diminished in these more socially distanced times.

One of the easier ways to enjoy Halloween in a very socially distanced and sensible way this year could well be to play some of the fabulous spooky slot games that have been produced by Microgaming over the years. Not only can these games be great fun to play, but they could also offer you the chance of a 'treat' of a different kind in the shape of a decent cash value win, if you are lucky of course.

Alternatively, these ghouls and ghosts that dwell on the reels could play a trick on you and chomp their way through your bankroll, especially if the game is a higher variance slot.

So with that in mind, what we have done is gone through some of the best Microgaming slots released over the years that are a perfect fit to play in Halloween week and we have outlined five of the very best of these types of games, together with a description of each, below.

We are sure that if you sink your teeth into any of these games, you will certainly find that it gets the blood pumping and won't leave you howling mad!

Here's five perfect slots for Halloween for you to try this week!

  1. Halloween

What better way to celebrate this time of the year than with the slot that is based on the famous film of the same name. Although released many years after the film, the Halloween slot is one of Microgaming's more genuinely unnerving games with the psychopath Michael Myers creeping around down the side of the house that is central on the screen. Add to that a creepy soundtrack and audio and video from the film and you have a game that is a perfect choice for this time of the year.

One aspect of the slot that is very ingenious is the Trick or Treat wheel which sees you able to collect Cash Prizes before you land either a Free Spins bonus or a shot at the Boogeyman Bonus game, where you get to pick from leaves to reveal a cash prize, a multiplier or the symbol that will end the bonus game.

To trigger Free Spins, you will land a character on the Trick or Treat wheel and that character will then be the only character featured on the reels in the Free Spins bonus, which sees you have 9 Free Spins during the round.

The game also features Wandering Reels, where a group of 3 reels, which contain one more symbol than the other two, as well as Jumbo sized symbols, can move around the reels on each spin, stopping in one of three positions.

Featuring characters from the film as the higher value symbols (and Jumbo Blocks) and items from the film as lower value symbols, Halloween is the perfect choice if you are a fan of the famous horror film, or of scary things in general. Just don't let Michael find you!

  1. Lost Vegas

For me, the Lost Vegas slot remains one of Microgaming's most underrated games. Released back in time for Halloween in October 2016, this was one of the first slots which saw you pick a side to play, you could either play as a survivor, or as one of the zombies that were running riot through a post-apocalyptic vision of Las Vegas.

What was really superb about the game was that by selecting a side (which you were able to do on any spin), you could access not just a different look for the game in terms of the backdrop and symbols on the reels, but depending on which side you selected, that would determine which of the bonus features you would be able to access in the game.

Play as the Survivors and you get access to the Free Spins with Stash feature, where the lower value symbols are removed from the reels and cash is added to your stash for each one removed. In Zombie mode, you play the Free Spins with Infection feature, which features infected reels that turn Single Wilds into Stacked Wilds and which allows you to earn up to 50 Free Spins.

During the base game there are two random game modes, the Zombie Fist of Cash and Blackout Bonus, which can occur in either game mode and offer you an additional way to land prizes.

A very beautifully realised slot with plenty of depth and some fantastic features, Lost Vegas is certainly one of the very best spooky slots to play this Halloween.

  1. Immortal Romance V2

The original Immortal Romance slot was released many years ago now and its design was based on the fabulously successful Thunderstrick II slot game. However, recently, as well as releasing a Scratchcard version of the game, Microgaming also tweaked the original a little for this second version of the slot.

Up to 364,500 coins can still be won on this newly reworked version of the game and purists will be happy that the slot also retains the four different slots bonus features, which you need to work through and unlock by landing the Free Spins bonus repeatedly. Once you have unlocked all four bonuses and played them enough times, you can then select which one to play on any subsequent trigger of the bonus.

Based on a kind of vampire romance story, Immortal Romance features four main characters, Amber, Troy,Michael and Sarah who each are on the reels as symbols and who also have their own Free Spins bonus named after them, each with a different feature, such as Rolling Reels,Random Wilds or Multiplier bonuses contained within them.

The Wild Vine symbol on the third reel can randomly transform other symbols into additional Wilds on the reels. Immortal Romance has been one of Microgaming's smash hit success stories and its new and updated version is still hugely popular with players the world over.

  1. Zombie Hoard

Developed by Slingshot Studios and released into Casinos back in March 2019, the Zombie Hoard slot takes a more cartoon style approach to the horror genre. Bets start at just 0.09 per spin, although you can increase that up to 45.00 per spin if you prefer. With a potential coin win of 107,500, the game also has some big cash prizes to be won too.

The 5x3 reel slot has some standard and more unusual features. The game has standard Wilds but also super stacked Wilds on the third and fourth reels in the base game, which increase to being on all five reels during the Free Spins bonus round.

You can also trigger Free Spins in two different ways, either by collecting Free Spins tokens individually until you have collected 30 Free Spins tokens, which then triggers your 30 Free Spins bonus. Or you can land three of the Scatter symbols on the reels to trigger the number of Free Spins you have collected using the Free Spins tokens on the reels.

With 9 pay lines, this is a simple but enjoyable Zombie themed slot to play which offers some good value rewards and some interesting bonus features.

  1. So Many Monsters

One of a series of slots that also saw So Much Sushi and So Much Candy as part of the trilogy, So Many Monsters was released back in September 2014 just in time for the Halloween push that year and it features a somewhat unusual game mechanic, which could see the number of symbols in a single position on the reels increase in number, offering you the potential for up to 25 symbols across a winning line.

The rather cheerful, cartoon style graphics of the slot sees a number of rather unusual looking monsters on the reels alongside the standard playing card low symbols. There is a Wild symbol, which is the So Many Monsters logo, which can replace the higher and lower value standard symbols on the reel. There is also a Free Spins round, where you could win up to a maximum of $64,000. There are five Free Spins rounds to pick from ranging from 8 Free Spins to 16, with the maximum win value increasing with the fewer Free Spins you select. These Free Spins are landed by landing three or more of the eyeball Scatter symbol anywhere across the reels.

All of the higher value Monster Symbols can multiply in their positions on the reel adding up to five monsters in each position and the more of these symbols you can land on a pay line, the higher the potential value of your win on a line can be.

This is a fun slot to play which can be enjoyed from 0.25 to 100.00 per spin and which offers a great range of wins and a very cheery, non-scary Halloween monster dynamic.
