Have we ever had a Mega Moolah Halloween jackpot winner?
Wouldn't it be a fantastic trick, not to mention one hell of a treat, to be the winner of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize on Halloween?
The 31st October has become one of the most important dates in the calendar over the last 20 years or so, with many people opting to indulge in all kinds of spooky shenanigans to celebrate the famous date.
Of course, in these more socially restricted times, we may not be able to celebrate Halloween this year as we have done in the past, but it remains a very important date for many and, unsurprisingly, many casinos and slots gaming sites will often run special promotions to celebrate this time of the year.
All of this got me to thinking about Halloween and the Mega Moolah slot. Specifically, have we ever had a Halloween winner of the top Mega Jackpot prize on the game? What would any winner that lands that prize this year likely take home if they were lucky enough to trip the top prize and what else does the data tell us about winners in October and November over the years?
Have we had a Mega Moolah winner on the 31st October?
While it is likely that we will have had a Major Jackpot winner on this date (in fact, almost a certainty) and there will have been hundreds of Mini and Minor Jackpot winners also landing their prizes on Halloween, we are yet to see a Mega Jackpot winner landed on this date.
In truth, when it comes to Mega Moolah wins, October is a bit of a quiet month compared to others with just five confirmed wins across the month of October since the game was first released back in 2007.
Even more spookily, if you believe in those things, the bulk of those five wins have tended to come early on in the month as the data below shows us:
October Mega Moolah wins
- 5th October 2009 - US$1,242,562
- 11th October 2011 - €3,841,871
- 6th October 2015 - £13,213,839
- 1st October 2017 - £1,448,116
- 16th October 2019 - £3,558,859
- 29th October 2020 - NZ$6,017,395
Four of the wins in October have come on or before the 11th of the month, with just two winners beyond that on the 16th October. Another strange fact is that even though we have had just six confirmed winners in October over the years, a half of those wins have been landed using the British Pound as the base currency. Not only that, but one of those wins was Jon Heywood's famous Guinness World Record breaking win of over £13.2 million back on the 6th October 2015.
Now three British Pound winners doesn't sound altogether unusual, even out of six winners, but when you consider that there have been just nine confirmed British Pound winners of the top Mega Moolah jackpot prize since the game began and across all 12 months of the year, October (with just 3 winners) holds a large percentage of those wins. It does make you wonder if strange forces are very much at work!
Now if you compare that with the month of May, which has seen the greatest number of winners in Mega Moolah history with 11 confirmed winners across the different months of May throughout the years, of all those 11 winners (three of which were confirmed in May 2020), only one has been claimed in a British Pound currency.
Does this mean that by the time we reach October, Britain becomes gripped by some kind of Mega Moolah mania which means that more British players play the game during this month than any other? Are the spirits of Halloween encouraging Brits to play at a time when they have a much higher strike rate of jackpot wins than any other month? Of course not, but it is fun to speculate all the same!
When is the closest Mega Moolah winner to Halloween?
With the nearest October winner to Halloween came just a two days ago, on the 29th of October. A New Zealand based player won NZ$6,017,395. Also in November, which has been a slightly more productive month for Mega Moolah jackpot winners over the years with a total of seven players landing their massive prizes during the month of November and he earliest winner in the month, and the player that has nominally become the player landing their prize also close to Halloween, did so on the 5th November.
November Mega Moolah Wins
- 15th November 2007 - SAR4,308,741
- 29th November 2010 - €2,547,087
- 9th November 2014 - CA$3,841,925
- 5th November 2016 - CA$11,633,898
- 15th November 2016 - AU$5,634,327
- 15th November 2017 - CA$1,413,538
- 8th November 2019 - £2,771,102.29
We can see that the winner closest to Halloween landed a substantial prize of over CA$11 million for their win, but in the UK, the 5th November is also Bonfire Night, so this winner would more likely be called the lucky Fireworks Night or Guy Fawkes jackpot winner, rather than the Halloween winner.
One interesting thing to note is that the 15th November is the luckiest date in Mega Moolah gaming history with a total of three separate jackpot winners on this date, including the very first one back in 2007, plus two more in 2016 and 2017.
So we do not as yet have a Mega Moolah Halloween jackpot winner?
At the moment, there is a vacancy for a Halloween Mega Moolah winner. So is there a chance that we could welcome the first winner on the 31st October this year?
Well, we do know that the Mega Moolah jackpot was just won on the 29th of October by a player winning 6 million in New Zealand dollars. This meant that a sizeable was left in the kitty for someone lucky to win again - perhaps today on Halloween!
We also know that every spin could be a winner on the Mega Moolah slots and with plenty of new games to enjoy in 2020 compared to other years, who knows, maybe 2020 will be the year that we see the first Halloween jackpot prize winner!
