Mega Moolah slots network: Ranking the best games and features
Now, we all know that the one common denominator when it comes to the Mega Moolah series of slot games, is that each offers you a chance at landing any of the four Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prizes; the Mini, Minor, Major that huge Mega jackpot prize.
Of course, these progressive jackpot prizes are a massive part of what makes the Mega Moolah series of slots so popular, but it is important to remember that they do not tell the whole story. Indeed, for the vast majority of the time that you play the slot, you won't be playing anything to do with the progressive jackpots, but instead the slot game itself.
Now we know that there are five main Mega Moolah slot games. I am discounting the three older games, as although these are still available, they lack many of the top features that you can find on the original Mega Moolah or any of the four new versions of the game that were released over the past 18 months or so.
So in this article, we are going to take a closer look at what I would call the 'main feature' of each of the different Mega Moolah games and we are going to rate them based on a number of factors. How easy they are to trigger, how potentially lucrative each of the bonus features could be for players, how enjoyable they are when you access them and lastly, how much extra they add to each individual game.
We will then rank the key bonus features from top to bottom, so you can see at a glance which of the Mega Moolah games has the best non-progressive bonus feature.
Of course, it should be remembered that this list is somewhat subjective. I have tried to be as fair as possible when reviewing the different features but of course, there will be some innate bias I have towards the features that appeal to me the most. So rather than taking this as gospel, this is more a guide to how I rate the features. You may have entirely different views.
The great thing is though, with so many different features now available on Mega Moolah slot games, you have the perfect excuse to give the games a try to see if the one you think is best, really is the top of the tree and better still, you'll still be playing for that massive Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize too.
So, let's begin by taking a look at the five Mega Moolah slots and the main non-progressive bonus feature of each.
The Five Mega Moolah Slots and Main Bonus Features
- Mega Moolah & Mega Vault Millionaire - 15 Free Spins with 3x Multiplier
I have put the original Mega Moolah slot together with the Casino Rewards exclusive game Mega Vault Millionaire because these two games seem to be almost mirror images of each other (although you can win more coins playing the original Mega Moolah). Both games offer 25 pay lines across the 5x3 reels, both have very similar set ups with the same number of symbols, Wilds and a Scatter and both also offer the same Free Spins bonus round of 15 Free Spins with a 3x multiplier and both of these bonuses are also retriggerable.
As such, rather than repeat myself for both slots, I have bundled these two bonuses together and will treat them as the same for the purposes of this article.
- Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah - Expanding Wilds and Free Respin Bonus
Atlantean Treasures is perhaps the most unusual of all the Mega Moolah slot games as it does not offer a dedicated bonus round that is triggerable from within the base game. Instead, this 10 pay line progressive, with Win Both Ways and Expanding Wilds on the middle three reels, and the chance to earn a free respin of the other reels, with the Wild held in place. Add more Wilds to the reel on a respin and you can trigger up to three Respins in this fashion.
- Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad - 8 Free Spins with Enhanced Multiplier Trail & Rolling Reels
Released in May 2020, the Absolootly Mad slot offers a very nice little bonus feature in its Free Spins bonus game. Here you get an initial 8 Free Spins (but you can retrigger this bonus and land up to a maximum of 56 Free Spins). During your Free Spins, the Multiplier Trail from the base game is increased in value and now offers wins of 3x, 6x, 9x and 15x the standard amount for successive Rolling Reels wins. As in the base game, the Rolling Reels feature is also in play during the Free Spins bonus round.
- Fortunium Gold Mega Moolah - 10 Free Spins with Mystery Reels
The latest Mega Moolah slot, Fortunium Gold, offers its own Free Spins bonus round, but this one is a little different to the others. When triggered you receive 10 Free Spins and depending on how many Scatters you land, you will have one, two or three Mystery Reels in play. Mystery Reels are filled completely with the Mystery Symbols from the base game and after each spin, all symbols on those reels will turn randomly into the same symbol. In addition to this, for every additional Scatter symbol you land during the Free Spins bonus, you will receive one further Free Spin added to your total. One nice touch with this bonus feature is that you can trigger the Jackpot Bonus Wheel from the Free Spins round, which is not the case when any of the other bonus triggers occur in the other Mega Moolah slot games.
So as you can see, there are essentially four different types of bonus features available across the main five Mega Moolah slots. So in order to decide which one is the best, let's take a look at how they rate according to some key criteria.
- How easy or difficult is the bonus to trigger?
In terms of which bonus is the easiest to trigger, we have a definite winner in this section and that is the Expanding Wilds/Respin bonus on the Atlantean Treasures slot. This bonus triggers much more frequently than the other bonuses, but what it makes in terms of how often it triggers, it loses in terms of how 'deep' the bonus is in terms of benefits to the player (as we will explore below).
In terms of the other games, it is very much a case that the trigger times on each games tend to be about the same. I'd say that the Free Spins bonus game on the Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire slots are probably a shade easier to trigger than the other two games and between Fortunium Gold and Absolootly Mad, I'd say that the former is just slightly easier to trigger than the latter. However, I would also add that the difference is so small that these impressions may be entirely false.
Ranking from Easiest to Most Difficult
1.Atlantean Treasures
2.Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire
3.Fortunium Gold
4.Absolootly Mad
- On average, how lucrative could triggering the bonus be for a player?
This is a somewhat tricky one to judge as every players experience with the bonus features in the game will be very different but having played all games extensively, I feel I have a broader view across the games to at least come up with an opinion on the matter. For me, I have certainly enjoyed the best success in terms of the amounts won from the original Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire slots.
After that, in terms of the bonus alone, the Absolootly Mad slot would probably come next just ahead of Fortunium Gold (although I have to admit that I have not played this latest release as extensively and I would reserve full judgement on that until I have done so). One thing is certain, while the Atlantean Treasures bonus triggers the most frequently by far, the majority of those triggers don't result in a win, or just a small win, so it is by far the least lucrative of the offers for me, even if you add up their cumulative value over time.
Ranking from most to least lucrative
1.Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire
2.Absolootly Mad
3.Fortunium Gold
4.Atlantean Treasures
- How enjoyable is the bonus feature to play when triggered?
This is arguably the most controversial rating choice as this is entirely subjective and whether you win well on a game can influence greatly how you perceive your enjoyment of it, so I do contend the values I ascribe here may not be the same for everybody. However, for me the Fortunium Gold bonus is the top dog here for two reasons, the bonus is generally consistent in terms of returns (even if they are not that big) but more importantly, it is the only bonus which still offers you a shot at the Jackpot Bonus Game and those four progressive jackpots.
After that I do like the Free Spins bonus on the two Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire slots as they offer more spins than the other games, a guaranteed multiplier and I think they are easier to retrigger Free Spins on than on many other games I have played, including non-progressives. Absolootly Mad comes third with its decent Free Spins/Rolling Reels bonus with the Atlantean Treasures bonus a somewhat distance last place to be honest.
Ranking from most to least enjoyable
1.Fortunium Gold
2.Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire
3.Absolootly Mad
4.Atlantean Treasures
- How volatile is the bonus game in terms of payouts?
Again this is a tough one to gauge but for me, the Absolootly Mad bonus has been the most volatile for me, offering me some very small wins but the occasional big value win. The same can be said for the Atlantean Treasures bonus, which generally offers small or even no wins but which on occasion can combine with the Bar symbols to produce a much larger win. Fortunium Gold is a close third here with a nice mix of pay outs and, somewhat oddly, I feel the Mega Moolah/Mega Vault Millionaire Free Spins bonus has been the most consistent in terms of payouts, but generally these have been for smaller amounts.
However, what I would also add here is that these ratings are based entirely on personal experience and not based on any statistics from each slot and I think that for different players they may well have different views on each of the games listed here.
Ranking from most to least volatile
1.Absolootly Mad
2.Atlantean Treasures
3.Fortunium Gold
4.Mega Moolah/Mega Vault Millionaire
Our final rankings
Taking the position as the points awarded for each game, if we add up the total points each game collects, the one with the lowest score would be the best feature and the results of that are:
- Mega Moolah and Mega Vault Millionaire - 9 Points
- Absolootly Mad & Fortunium Gold - 10 Points
- Atlantean Treasures - 11 Points
As we can see, it is a very even contest with the original African Savannah themed Mega Moolah game and Mega Vault Millionaire just pipping the two newer additions and Atlantean Treasures just a point further behind. In truth, that makes perfect sense. Microgaming would not want to develop a Mega Moolah slot that offers a significant benefit over all the others (as this would impact on the drawing power of the other games) so it is right that the benefits on each of the games are relatively even.
So we think that those 15 Free Spins and 3x multiplier, which can be retriggered is just about our favourite Mega Moolah slot game non-progressive bonus feature. Which one is yours and why?
