Presentation

I don't think I have ever seen a slot that is packed full of more colour than the Amazon Gold slot. To say it is eye-catching is an understatement as the screen is awash with different hues of a myriad of colours. The musical accompaniment of a rather fast-paced South American themed song is also a nice fit to the on screen action but the graphics on the slot and the backdrop, which features leaves moving in the breeze, is very nicely done.

My one gripe is that on some screens the instructions and pay table sections are very small and can be difficult to navigate through. Also the slot does require a lot of clicking compared to other games, especially during Free Spins but this is a minor niggle really and can be removed by using the Autoplay feature.

What is on the reels?

There are 11 standard symbols on the reels. They range from the 9 through to the Ace in the now almost universally used playing card symbols, although they have been made up to at least fit in with the jungle theme. Better looking and much more appropriate to the slot are the five animal symbols and these are the Butterfly, Snake, Crocodile, Monkey and Tiger.

The symbols are beautifully realised and are as colourful as the backdrop but have also been designed to be easy to distinguish from each other. Wins on these symbols are generally small for three and four symbol wins but much better value for five symbol wins. Wins start at 1/6 of your total bet but can increase up to 33.3x your total bet for five tigers across a pay line.

In addition to these symbols there are two bonus symbols on the reel, the Amazon Gold Scatter and the Parrot Wild.

Wild features

The Parrot Wild only appears on the final three reels in the base game, but one of the big positives about it is that it can be stacked on any of those reels, which means if you can line up those stacks together with decent symbols on the first two reels, that is generally how you land the bigger value wins in the game.

The Wild Symbol and feature does change when you trigger the Free Spins bonus game as we will explore below.

While the presentation on this slot is outstanding, for me the Free Spins bonus game is the star of the show. Not only is it easier to trigger than on some other slots, but the fact you have those three extra Multiplier Wilds on the reels does make the game more exciting. However, hitting the 2x and 5x versions of these can be tough and I have to say that the Free Spins bonus is very volatile, sometimes it pays well and other times you will be lucky to win much more than your bet size.

Conclusion

The Amazon Gold slot is a very nice-looking game and the colours used in particular are absolutely outstanding, I've seen some bright and vivid slots in my time but this ranks up there with the best of them. It is not free of niggles however, I feel you have to click the button too much in the game (for example, Free Spins don't start automatically, you have to click, and then you have to click again after Free Spins to go back to the base game). I also feel the buttons to access the game information and pay tables are far too small and fiddly, especially on mobile devices. The Free Spins game though is solid enough, but I would have liked to see one extra bonus feature added to the game to add an extra dimension. This slot is a real looker, but does lack a bit of substance.
