Book of Atem Wowpot slot released with 2 million guaranteed Wowpot Jackpot!
Earlier this year, the first slot in a new progressive series, the Wowpot progressive network, was released. That was the Wheel of Wishes slot and it has proven to be a real hit with customers, so much so that there are two new Wowpot progressives scheduled for release and one of those games has hit casinos today; the Book of Atem Wowpot slot.
With Sisters of Oz Wowpot on the horizon too, it is an exciting time for Microgaming's newest progressive slot network, with its fantastic £2 million guaranteed Wowpot Jackpot prize being the crown jewel. The network has already paid out several big money Major jackpot prizes running to several hundreds of thousands of pounds since its release in February 2020, which you can see on WheelofWishes.net.
Book of Atem is a familiar face as it was released as a standard slot earlier this year. However, All41 Studios did some tinkering with the mechanics of the game to facilitate the addition of the Wowpot progressive jackpot feature to the new slot and this is the result of their efforts.
Let's take a closer look now at the Book of Atem Wowpot slot to see if it still has all the enjoyable game-play of the original, with the added excitement of that massive Wowpot progressive jackpot prize thrown in for good measure.

Presentation
If you played the original Book of Atem slot game which was released a few months back, then the look of the Wowpot version will be very familiar to you. Set against the backdrop of an ancient Egyptian landscape, the four progressive jackpot prizes, the Mini (seeded at £10.00), Minor (seeded at £100.00), Major (seeded at £50,000) and Wowpot (seeded at £2,000,000) are displayed on the left of the reels, with the chest used to collect the Wild Scatter tokens at the foot of these reels.
The main controls are on the right of the reels and the five reels are shown in the centre of the screen and they are semi-transparent allowing you to see more of the rather sumptuously designed backdrop of the slot.
Accompanying these rather attractive visuals is a nicely atmospheric soundtrack which isn't particularly strident and which sits alongside the action on the reels nicely without being too overbearing. As with the original release, All41 Studios have done an excellent job on this new Wowpot-linked slot.
What is on the reels?
I had one gripe about the selection of symbols on the original Book of Atem slot and unfortunately, that same gripe exists in this version of the game. It is only a small issue though and it is about the playing card low symbols being used as the lower value symbols on the reels.
In a game that is ostensibly about ancient Egypt, there are so many different symbols that could have been used for these symbols in the game that would have fitted the theme better. Different types of hieroglyphics for example. While I understand that playing card lows are well understood as low value symbols now, I just feel it wasn't the best fit for this game.
There are five of those symbols on the reels, running from the 10 through to the Ace. Alongside these symbols are the four higher value symbols a flower, a snake, a falcon and lastly the pharaoh. The latter of these symbols is the highest value symbol in the game and offers wins ranging from 1x to 500x your stake.
Wild features
Rather than having a Wild and a Scatter symbol, the Book of Atem Wowpot slot has a Wild Scatter symbol. This is the eponymous Book of Atem symbol and it can appear across all five of the reels.
When it does, it can be used as a standard Wild symbol, substituting for any of the other standard symbols in the game to help create wins across the reels. However, if you can land three or more of these symbols across the reels, then it also serves as the trigger for the Free Spins bonus round (which we will explain in more detail in the section below).
However, the key thing to note with the Wild Scatter symbols is that each time you land them, you will collect a token which is added to the treasure chest in the bottom left hand corner of the reel. Each time you collect a token by landing a Wild Scatter, you stand a random chance of triggering the Jackpot Bonus game. This process is entirely random but if you do manage to trigger the bonus, then you enter the Book of Atem Wowpot Jackpot Bonus Game.
In the bonus game, you are presented with a wheel and a pointer. There are different coloured sectors on the reel, Blue, for the Mini jackpot, Green for the Minor jackpot, Red for the Major jackpot and the single gold sector is the Wowpot jackpot which is the largest of all the four prizes.
Simply hit the Spin button to set the wheel in motion to see which of the four progressive jackpot prizes you will win. Of course, your chances of winning one of the two smaller value prizes is much higher than the two larger prizes.
Free Spins features
Once you land three or more of the Wild Scatter symbols on the reels, you will trigger the Book of Atem Wowpot Free Spins bonus round. You are given 10 Free Spins initially (but you can re-trigger the bonus for a further 10 Free Spins for a maximum of 20 Free Spins in total) and before your spins start, you will see a symbol selection screen appear.
In this part of the bonus, one of the symbols will be chosen at random and this will become an Expanding Symbol in the Free Spins bonus round. This symbol, when it lands on a reel, will expand to cover it entirely, and of course if you can land multiple of these across the reels then you can land some very sizeable wins across multiple lines. Land the Pharoah symbol as the expanding symbol and hit it across five reels and you would win the 5,000x base game jackpot prize.
Best feature of the Book of Atem Wowpot slot
There is no doubt that many people will play the Book of Atem Wowpot slot for the progressive jackpot prize available on it alone but that is a shame as there is actually a lot more to this slot than simply chasing the progressive. I like the way the Wild Scatter symbol works and the Free Spins bonus can be particularly lucrative, if you are lucky. Remember though the slot is very high variance and so you may find that this is a game that can chew through your bankroll if you don't keep a close eye on what you are spending.
Conclusion
The first addition to the Wowpot jackpot progressive network since the release of the Wheel of Wishes slot, the Book of Atem Wowpot game is a great re-imagining of the original game but adapted to add the Wowpot to the game. The base game is fun to play and the Free Spins bonus round offers players the most realistic chance of a decent return. The Jackpot Bonus Game will be hard to trigger but those four progressive jackpot prizes are what will likely draw many people in to try the game and I think they are going to enjoy what they find a great deal.
