Casino Rewards winners: January 2020

Last month saw the fewest number of big money jackpot winners landed since we started keeping records for this article from April 2019, so what would the first month of a new decade hold for players at Casino Rewards? Well the results are in and we are delighted to report that it looks to be a very positive set of stats!

This was undoubtedly helped by the release of a new Mega Moolah powered progressive jackpot slot Atlantean Treasures during January 2020, the first big winners of which were landed during the month. Furthermore, with another big new progressive set to be released in February, next month could be equally interesting too.

Before we take a look at the nitty-gritty of the winners of the month, here's the headline news from January 2020's data at Casino Rewards.

Casino Rewards progressive pay outs - January 2020

• There were no Mega jackpot winners of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize on any of the games that are part of that network, either at Casino Rewards or any other casino, throughout the month of January, which on the positive side, has seen the jackpot prize increase significantly. The biggest winner this month therefore landed a prize of over €109,000 on the Treasure Nile slot.
• We saw a significant increase in the number of winners from December 2019's 24 winners, to 38 winners in January 2020. This is just four fewer than the record number of wins in a single month, 42 which was achieved in October 2019.
• Once again, there was a good spread of winners throughout the month, although half the total number of winners landed their prize on or before the 10^th
• The luckiest single day for big jackpot winners in January 2020 was the 7^th January when five big jackpot prizes were paid out, including three triggers of the Mega Moolah progressive on the Mega Moolah slot and one on Mega Vault Millionaire, plus a Cash Splash jackpot.
• A day later on the 8^th December, four winners were crowned with two Cash Splash winners also joined by a Lots A Loot and Mega Moolah big money winner. A trio of jackpot prizes were claimed on the 14^th and the 17^th January too.
• Several days saw two jackpot winners land their prize including the 2^nd, 5^th, 6^th, 10^th, 19^th, 28^th and 31^st
• There were single jackpot winners claimed on the 3^rd, 4^th, 15^th, 16^th, 23^rd, 24^th, 26^th, 27^th and 29^th
• No jackpots were won on the 1^st, 9^th, 11^th, 12^th, 13^th, 18^th, 20^th, 21^st, 22^nd, 25^th and 30^th
• February saw the first ever winners of a Major jackpot prize on the new Atlantean Treasures: Mega Moolah slot. In total, this brand new slot saw six winners land a big money prize during the month. Mega Vault Millionaire, another newly released slot linked to the Mega Moolah progressive, also landed four winners.
• The smallest prize won this month that is recorded in the data was a prize of CA$5,024.05 on the Cash Splash slot on the 5^th
• A total of six different games paid out big money jackpot prizes in the month.

Which casinos and games generated big winners in January 2020?

Last month, Grand Mondial Casino maintained its place at the top of the list for casinos paying out players, albeit it shared that with both Zodiac Casino and Quatro Casino with five wins apiece. Will the casino make it four months in a row at the top of this particular chart?

So this month, Grand Mondial has been knocked into second place with Yukon Gold seeing one more winner in January 2020 than either Zodiac or Grand Mondial Casinos. Both were two ahead of Captain Cooks Casino in third on the list which in turn was one winner more than Cosmo Casino. In total we saw 10 casinos from the Casino Rewards network pay out prizes to players in January.

This month saw a rare Lots A Loot winner as well as the first six winners of a significant cash prize when playing the brand new Atlantean Treasures slot, enough for it to move above the four big winners on the other new Mega Moolah powered slot, Mega Vault Millionaire. Treasure Nile had two winners in the month and while the Cash Splash slot once again paid out the most winners with 14 big jackpots claimed in January, you have to remember that 10 wins were landed on the original Mega Moolah, plus 6 wins on the Atlantean Treasures and 4 wins on the Mega Vault Millionaire, making the Mega Moolah family of slots the winner with 20 wins in total.

Although it was a Euro winner that landed the biggest cash prize at Casino Rewards in January 2020, Canadian Dollar winners once again ruled the roost. In total just over 63% of the big money wins at the Casino Rewards network this month came from players using Canadian Dollars as their choice of currency, meaning almost 2/3rds of wins were landed in Canadian Dollars.

This month saw a marked increase in the number of Euro winners, which was up from just three in December 2019 to 11 in January 2020. US Dollar winners remained at a similar amount with 3 winners per month and once again, we didn't have any British Pound winners, which is the third month in a row that players from the country have failed to land a big money win. In terms of the total amount of money win in each currency, unsurprisingly the Canadian Dollar tops the list once again.

With so many more Canadian Dollar winners, it was always going to be the case that this currency was the one that saw the most paid out in January 2020, but there was a marked increase of almost six times the amount paid out in December 2019 by the Euro which crashed through the €300,000 mark for the month comfortably. With one winner less, the US Dollar payouts fell by just over US$30,000 from December to January.

Let's now take a look at the average size of win for each of the three currencies:

Somewhat unusually, the list is reversed when we look at the average size of win for each of the three currencies, with the US Dollars three wins averaging more than the Euro, which in turn averaged just a little more than the Canadian Dollar average win. However, you can't really compare the amounts in a meaningful way unless you convert them into a single currency, which we have done below:

When converted to British pounds we see the average wins still place the US Dollar wins at the top of the list by around £1,300 more on average than the Euro win, however both well clear of the average Canadian Dollar win which was worth just £15,274.40 on average.

What were the biggest Casino Rewards Network wins in January 2020?

With no Mega Jackpot at all throughout January 2020, once again the biggest win during the month can be measured in hundreds of thousands rather than millions and while there were more winners in January 2020 than there were in December 2019, there was one fewer big money prize winner that landed over the magical 100,000 mark. Let's take a look now at the top ten prize money winners, listed in numerical order, for January 2020.

While there may have been one fewer win over the 100,000 mark this month, what is notable compared to December 2019 is that there were significantly more winners above the 30,000 mark this month. In December, just six winners landed prizes of this amount or more, while in January 13 people landed a prize of this value or greater, with a couple of prizes just under this amount too.

So despite no big million-plus jackpot prize being paid out in January 2020, we still saw an increase in the number of winners and also a considerable increase in winners over that 30,000 threshold.

Mobile vs desktop winners in January 2020

There were 38 winners of big jackpot prizes in January, which is a considerable improvement on the 24 winners landed in December. Of those winners 29 came on mobile devices, while just nine were landed on non-mobile connections. This sees January land in fifth place in the table of months with most wins (behind October 2019 with 42 and three months with 39 wins, April, May and August 2019.

I have to admit to being quite surprised by that. January is typically one of the months of the year when, following splurging at Christmas and New Year, people tend to have a bit less spare cash lying around to play slots and the like than they do at other points of the year. So to see such a big jump from December into January in the number of wins, especially in terms of big cash prize winners does bode well for the future.

Last month we saw a slight drop in mobile winners, but in January 2020, mobile winners outnumbered their desktop counterparts by 20, meaning that over 76% of winners this month landed their prize on a mobile device. That is around 5% more than the average number of winners on a mobile since we started keeping records in April 2019.

With no big money Mega Moolah progressive jackpot winners of note at any casinos in January, the jackpot has grown in size and with the release of the new Atlantean Treasures slot in January, this is a particularly positive time for progressive slot gaming with Microgaming, especially when you consider that Mega Vault Millionaire was only released towards the end of 2019.
