Chocolate slot with expanding Ways to Win in exclusive early release
It's been a little while since we have revisited the theme of sweeties and chocolatey goodness in a Microgaming slot. The last game I can definitively remember playing on such as theme was the So Much Candy slot a few years back, along with the Fruit v Candy slot in 2017, which allowed you to play with either on the reels. We even had a Chocolate Factory slot released back in 2006, but this Big Time Gaming release is the first chocolatey themed game for a good while.
The Chocolate slot is available through Microgaming now due to a new content deal between the companies and Microgaming players have two weeks to enjoy this innovative new game before it is released more generally across other casinos. You can play the Chocolate slot at a Mega Moolah casino now.
So what does this rather unusual looking 4x4 reel slot, with a number of different bonus features and a potentially lucrative Free Spins bonus round have to offer? We decided to take a closer look and find out for ourselves.

Presentation
The presentation of the Chocolates slot is nicely done. We have a dynamic background which can change from day to night, depending on which part of the game you are playing, the base game is played in daylight, with Free Spins at night. The reels are set up as a rather nice-looking clockwork house, which reminds me of a cuckoo clock design and the reels are placed centrally on the house.
The sound effects and music are also nicely done and fit the game theme very well and the animations when you land a win are smooth. It is a high variance slot though and you will need to manage your bankroll carefully, however with spins starting at 0.10 per spin, you can afford to play even if you have a relatively small bankroll available to you.
What is on the reels?
There are a number of familiar symbols on the reels to enjoy. The lower value symbols are the playing card low, which is a little disappointing as I would have hoped to have seen more chocolate-themed symbols on the reels in this game. There are four higher value symbols and these are all types of chocolate with the purple chocolate being the highest value.
However, the highest value win is only the same as your stake, which is a very small amount for a high value win, but there are a number of features on the reels which can help radically boost the amount you win on a spin and particularly during the Free Spins bonus round. The first of these is the Wild symbol.
Wild features
The first of the two Wild symbols on the Chocolates slot is the Golden Ticket Wild symbol. When you land this on the reels and it plays a part in triggering one or more wins, then you will receive a large 6x multiplier applied to your win. However, if you can land two or more Golden Ticket Wilds as part of a win then the multipliers are combined to produce even bigger value wins for players.
There is a standard Wild on the reels which does not offer a multiplier.
One symbol to watch for however is the Chocolate Box symbol. When this symbol lands it can open up and reveal four of the same matching symbols and this will increase the number of ways to win in the game markedly, up to 2,401 ways in the base game (and up to a huge 65,536 ways to win in the Free Spins bonus round).
Free Spins features
The Clock symbol is the Scatter symbol in the Chocolates slot an if you land three or four of these across the reels, then you will trigger a Free Spins bonus game. Three symbols lands seven Free Spins, while land all four to land the maximum 10 Free Spins.
During Free Spins, any of the Chocolate Box symbols you land on the reels will be Sticky and remain in place for the duration of the bonus. As you start the bonus, one of the triggering Scatter symbol swill transform into a chocolate box symbol to get the bonus started.
Fill a reel with Chocolate Box symbols and you will also get three more Free Spins giving you up to 22 Free Spins in total available. With four Boxes in a row, you are guaranteed a win and in addition the extra symbols mean you could land up to 65,536 ways to win in the base game.
Best feature of the Chocolates slot
I have to admit to being a bit surprised to see Big Time Gaming and Microgaming join forces as I often viewed them as fierce competitors but I think this is a great introduction to some of the Big Time Gaming titles you will now see as a Microgaming customer. The game is innovative and unusual and its Swiss/Alpine theme combined with the chocolatey bonuses make this a game that will appeal across the board. The best feature is the Free Spins bonus, but that Wild multiplier in the base game can be very useful for some of the higher value wins in that part of the game.
Conclusion
Big Time Gaming have been responsible for a few cracking slot games over the years and Chocolates is certainly one of them and it is a very strong start to their partnership with Microgaming, offering some genuinely engaging game-play, some decent sized wins and some unusual but cleverly worked out bonus features.
Remember, as part of their recent content supplier deal with Big Time Gaming, Chocolates is available at Microgaming partner casinos only for a couple of weeks before it is generally released across all casinos that offer Big Time Gaming slots, so why not give the game a few spins before other players have the chance?
