Do Mega Moolah miracles happen at Christmas?

December can be a month of magic and miracles! For Mega Moolah fans, the one miracle that they would all love to happen at Christmas would be the chance to land that massive jackpot prize!

At the time of writing that jackpot has broken £12 million and it is still growing. To win that, would make this Christmas a very special one indeed.

To date, there have been just under 50 announced winners of the Mega Moolah top jackpot prize, the Mega Jackpot and of course, those jackpots have been won at various points throughout the year. However the question remains, are there times of the year when the jackpot seems to be more likely to be won?

If so, why could that be? Specifically, is the jackpot more likely to be won around Christmas time and could we see a Mega Moolah Christmas miracle landed over the next couple of weeks?

Well, one thing we do know for sure is that the Mega Moolah jackpot has never been won on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day. But could that change this year?

Let's take a look at the distribution of when the Mega Moolah jackpot has been won throughout the year.

It's relatively clear that unfortunately, there seems to be no evidence of a Christmas miracle when it comes to landing the Mega Moolah top progressive jackpot prize. The jackpot has been triggered three times in December since the game was releaed, on the 9th in 2012, the 16th in 2013 and the closest date to Christmas with a win was the 18th back in 2017.

Even if you head the other side of the festive period and look into the New Year, there are also just three wins in January and all of these have come around the middle of the month, with one on the 14th this year, one on the 16th in 2017 and then one on the 17th back in 2014.

Of course, that doesn't mean that there cannot be a Mega Moolah Christmas winner at some point and who knows, with the jackpot going as it is, that may well come this year. However what is evident is that there are some parts of the year where the jackpot seems to be triggered more frequently than others.

Peak jackpot times

The first peak jackpot time for the Mega Moolah slot seems to be the three-month period from April through to June. Over the years, the jackpot has been triggered 20 times (out of 48 total wins) over this three-month period, that is 41.6% of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot wins occurring in that three month period.

Of the three months, June has seen the most wins of any month in the calendar with eight, while April and May both have seen six winners, only one other month of the year (November) has had six winners, with all other months seeing considerably fewer.

There is then a secondary peak period for Mega Moolah wins occurring in the autumn, with the months of October and November seeing four and six triggers of the jackpot respectively. That's a further 20.8% of the triggers of the jackpot prize occurring in those two months.

This means that the five months April, May June, October and November account for 62.4% of the Mega Moolah jackpot triggers. The other seven months of the year therefore only account for 37.6% of wins.

Lucky dates to play Mega Moolah

OK, so we may not have any evidence of any Christmas miracles, or indeed any other miracles at any point of the year, but we have earmarked periods of the year when the jackpot has tended to have been won far more frequently.

Can we now be more specific and identify any particularly lucky dates in the calendar when the Mega Moolah jackpot has been triggered?

  • Three wins in a fortnight

June 2014 was certainly the best month for Mega Moolah wins ever recorded as in a period of two weeks from the 12th to the 24th of June, the jackpot was triggered an incredible three times. The first winner won a prize of CA$4.2 million on the 12th and then six days later a player won a €2.3 million prize. Incredibly, just six days after that there was another Canadian winner who landed a CA$1.01 million prize.

  • Two wins in a day, twice, in 2017

Those three wins over a two-week period are evidence that the Mega Moolah jackpot can be won at any time, at any amount and in a variety of places across the globe, but there's even better documentary evidence to point to that.

In 2017, we were already well on the way to a record number of Mega Moolah jackpot wins in a single calendar year, but in May and June that year, something very rare happened. On May 22, the jackpot was triggered at €3.72 million at 1.13pm by one player and then just over five hours later at 6.26pm, a second player landed a prize of CA$1.00 million.

Two winners in a day of the Mega Moolah jackpot was unheard of but incredibly a month later the same thing happened again. On the 19th June at 8.28am, one player landed a NZ$1.59 million prize, and then at 5.14pm the same day, another player from the other side of the world took home a AU$1.00 million prize.

Those four wins across the two days in May and June 2017 contributed to a record number of jackpot wins that year with 13 people claiming the top Mega Moolah prize, more than twice the number of the previous record (six in 2014).

  • The luckiest days to play Mega Moolah?

There are relatively few dates in the calendar year which have seen the Mega Moolah jackpot triggered twice or more. We already know that May 22nd 2017 and June 19th 2017 both saw two winners of the jackpot in a single day, but are there any other dates that have had multiple winners since the game began.

Yes, there are, but there's just two of them. The first is June 24th, which has seen a CA$1.01 million winner back in 2014 and then this year, one lucky player from New Zealand landed a NZD$8.33 million prize on the same date.

However, if one date lays claim to being the "luckiest day" to play Mega Moolah then that date is November 15th. The jackpot has been triggered three times on that date in 2007, 2016 and 2017. That date is also the date the first Mega Moolah jackpot was ever won. Then in 2016, a prize of AU$5.63 million was landed and in 2017, on that very same date, a prize of CA$1.41 million was also won.

So although there's never been a Christmas miracle on the Mega Moolah slot, with the jackpot climbing ever higher, I am confident that someone will land that top prize some time in December. Will 2018 be the year we celebrate the first ever Christmas Day winner of the jackpot prize? Or will it be won on another day, or maybe be carried through to become a whopping jackpot prize to try and win in 2019?

Who knows, but remember, in order to stand a chance to win it, all you need to do is spin it!
