Double Lucky Line slot: Double the symbols, treble the fun!

Slot gaming is popular also in the Far East and as a result, many top software development studios are quick to release a regular stream of oriental-themed slots to cater and appeal to this market.

Just For The Win, as part of their deal with Microgaming, have just released another of their games and it is called the Double Lucky Line slot.

Although it appears to be a traditional 5x3 reel set up, it is instead a 15 individual reel slot, organised into a 5x3 matrix. That's because the middle line of reels are all double symbols, whereas the top and bottom rows of reels only contain single symbols. This combination alters the dynamics of the slot a great deal (wins of up to 10 symbols are now possible, for example).

Let's now take a look at how the Double Lucky Line slot shapes up and whether it is a slot you are going to be doubling down on to play yourself any time soon.

Presentation

The first thing to note with the Double Lucky Line slot is that this is not an ordinary set up slot. Although we have the standard 5x3 matrix for the game, it isn't a 5 reel slot as each symbol visible is essentially its own reel, making up a 15 reel game. There are also a non-standard number of pay lines in play in this game with 17.

The other thing to note is that on the slot the middle section of the reels is highlighted and this is because this is where the Double symbols will appear, which we will explain more about in the sections below.

The theme of the slot is based on east Asian mythology and backing that up are some interesting symbols on the reels, as well as a soundtrack that creates the perfect atmosphere to play the slot in. The backdrop to the reels is just a plain green colour. It is not the most spectacular slot to look at, but its unusual set up is really what will bring players in to play the game.

What is on the reels?

Like we said earlier, the reels are 15 individual reels. The top row of reels and the bottom row of reels contain all single symbols, while the middle row only contains double symbols of each of the main types of symbols outlined below.

As there are double symbols, it is possible to hit much larger numbers of symbols in sequence than on an ordinary slot. Wins start at just three symbols (for a very small win), and increase up to combinations of 10 symbols (which offer, as you would expect, the higher value wins).

Symbols include the lower value playing card symbols, jack, queen, king and ace which offer between 0.2x and 50x your total bet as winnings. Higher value symbols include the tortoise, the frog and dragons which offer between 0.3x and up to 150x your bet for a win. The highest paying symbol is the Double Lucky Line logo, which offers wins from 0.6x up to 300x the bet total.

There are two main bonus feature symbols too on the reels, the Wild and Free Spins bonus symbols which we will explain in more detail below.

Wild features

The Wild symbol can either be a single symbol (on the top and bottom rows) or a double Wild (on the middle) and it is used ostensibly as a replacement symbol and can replace any of the standard symbols on the reels to create a win.

In addition to this, the Wild can also be used with other Wilds across the reels to create its own winning lines and the wins with Wild symbols are equal to those of the highest paying symbol (the Double Lucky Line) slot with pays of between 0.6x up to 300x your bet for between 3 and 10 Wilds on a pay line.

Another Wild bonus feature, the Lucky Wild slot, only appears in the Free Spins game, details of which are included in the section below.

Free Spins features

The Free Spins bonus symbol is the key to landing the Free Spins bonus and you must land five or more of these symbols, in any combination of single and double symbols, anywhere across the reels to activate the Free Spins bonus round.

When you do, you are given 10 Free Spins, unless you land more than 5 Free Spins bonus, in which case for every additional Free Spins symbol you land over the 5, you will receive one additional Free Spin as a reward.

During Free Spins, the Lucky Wild symbol is also on the reels and when you land this symbol, which looks like a money tree, you will receive one additional Free Spin added to your total. In addition, the Lucky Wild will remain in position on the reels and will turn the symbols on that reel into a double symbol option for the remainder of the Free Spins. The more Lucky Wilds you can land therefore, the better your chances are of a bigger value win (and the more Free Spins you will receive).

Best feature of the Double Lucky Line slot

I do like it when a company tries to come up with something new and innovative with a slot game and to be fair to Just For The Win, they have tried that here with the Double Lucky Line slot. The fact it is set up so unusually and the additional double symbols make this an intriguing game but one which is definitely more medium volatility. The Free Spins bonus is good but in truth, you will likely find the Wild symbol is more beneficial to you as it is a key factor in landing some of the better value base game wins.

Conclusion

I like the fact that Just For The Win didn't play it safe with their latest release. Asian-themed slots are ten a penny nowadays so they needed something to make Double Lucky Line stand out from the crowd and the unusual set up and features of the slot definitely do that. It is a fun game to play, but not one I think players who prefer more volatility in a game would like (unless they are playing for bigger money). Overall, this is a decent fun and enjoyable slot that won't take too big a bite out of a typical bankroll.

You can play Double Lucky Line slot at any of these high quality casinos.
