How to unlock the riches of the new North Storm slot?

Just a few days ago we brought you news that Rabcat Gaming was getting a new slot ready for release in early December.

This new slot was called North Storm and it has now arrived, blowing in a game since its release back on the 5th December.

A quick glance at the slot reveals that it has a rich heritage and takes inspiration from a number of popular slot games. In terms of how it looks, it has the look and feel of games like Asgardian Stones, as well as having some similarities to characters and locations from the Game of Thrones TV series. While the inclusion of the Bonus Falls feature takes inspiration from a number of games that offer Cascading Reels/Rolling Reels.

However, imitation is often the sincerest form of flattering and Rabcat have a real history of taking the bare mechanics of a slot and producing something special. Their last couple of releases have been top notch, so I have been looking forward to seeing what they can do with their new North Storm slot and here is what I found out when reviewing the game in more detail.

Presentation

I have to admit it and say if Rabcat know how to do one thing better than most other slot providers, it is in capturing the essence of a game and then amplifying it. Their Sherlock of London slot did that perfectly for Victorian England and now their North Storm slot does the same for the icy wastes of the north. Set against a mountainous backdrop, with a snowy blizzard blowing in and Norse god states guarding the entrance to the temple, this is a slot that looks sensational and the ethereal music and howling wind just amplifies that effect.

The Reels are not really reels, but blocks, as you find in many Rolling Reels/Bonus Falls slots games and these have been designed very well too so that they fit in perfectly with the icy surroundings. Rabcat have done a superb job with how the slot looks and sounds. So much so, you almost feel like throwing your coat and snow shoes on to play.

What is on the reels?

There are just seven standard symbols on the reels in the North Storm slot, which is a relatively small number for a modern slot game. They start with the four lower value symbols, which are the 10, Jack, Queen and King playing card symbols, which offer wins from a fifth, to up to 4x your total stake.

The higher value symbols are three different symbols each linked to Norse mythology and these offer higher value wins ranging from 80% of your total bet up to 100x your total bet.

Other than these symbols, there are just two other symbols on the reels, the Wild and the Free Spins Bonus symbol, both of which link in with some of the main features of the slot.

One thing to note about this game is that it is a Bonus Falls slot, in that winning symbols flash and disappear and are replaced by symbols dropping from above. This can then create subsequent additional wins and if it does, it will see your Multiplier Trail value increase with each additional Bonus Fall win. In the base game, this starts at 1x the standard win and increases up to 4x the standard win.

Wild features

The Wild symbol is the wolf and this is used predominantly as a symbol to replace others to help create wins or better value wins in the base game. There is only one win awarded for Wilds landed in succession on the reels and this is the same 100x your bet win that you get for landing the top value symbol win five times across the reels. To land this, you need to hit five Wilds.

However, the more Wilds you land on the reels, the more wins using different symbols you can potentially win on that spin. This means that multiple Wilds can often lead to multiple pay line wins across the reels and this in turn can increase the value of a win on any given spin.

Free Spins features

The Free Spins bonus symbol is not a traditional Scatter symbol. This symbol appears on the first three reels of the slot only and you need to land three of them on a pay line in order to trigger the Free Spins bonus. However, you can increase the number of spins you land by hitting more of these symbols on a subsequent Bonus Spin of the reels in the Bonus Falls section. Each additional Scatter landed adds two more Free Spins, up to a potential maximum of 20 Free Spins.

Once you have finished any Bonus Spins of the reels, your Free Spins round will begin but unfortunately there is no additional chance to land more Free Spins in the bonus game but you can access the Bonus Falls aspect of the game and in Free Spins, the Free Spins Multiplier is double that in the base game, which offers you a chance of wins from 2x to 8x the standard amount.

Best feature of the North Storm slot

Although the presentation of the North Storm slot is exceptionally good, I feel the Bonus Falls feature is what makes this game what it is. The fact that it plays such a prominent role in both the base game and the Free Spins bonus round makes it a key part of that slot. The multiplier wins can prove to be lucrative at times, even though most wins from this section tend to be of the lower multiplier values.

Conclusion

Once again, Rabcat have produced another fantastic looking and well put together slot game that will surely attract plenty of interest from players. It may not be the most original slot game, but the elements that it does possess have been put together and utilised in a spectacular and innovative way that really does capture the imagination of the players. This is another fantastic game from Rabcat and one that Microgaming fans are definitely going to enjoy.
