Huge Major Millions progressive jackpot won by one lucky Canadian
Just a short time ago, we wondered if the Major Millions Jackpot would manage to break through the 3 million barrier, having already gone through the 1 million and 2 million marks over the last few months.
Well, this past week we received our answer when one lucky player managed to land a jackpot of that was worth around 1.4 million in the base currency of British Pounds.
Given that the Major Millions slot can be played in other currencies and that when the top progressive jackpot prize is won, the winner lands the amount stated, this latest win suggests that the winner didn't land their prize in British Pounds as there is still plenty of money left in the progressive jackpot prize pool (just over a million).
As such, and by looking at the math, we think that this latest big money winner landed a prize of around 2.4 million in Canadian Dollars.
As is customary in the short time after a big win, all the fine details of the win are not yet known, but what we can say for sure is that we do have our first million-plus winner of a progressive jackpot game on the Microgaming network of 2020.
What is the Major Millions progressive slot?
For those of you that are not familiar with the Major Millions slot, it is a funny military themed slot that is available in both 5-reel and 3-reel versions. Although the game-play between the two slots is different, there are a number of similarities between the two games. Both use very similar symbols on the reels, both offer the exact same chance of winning the progressive jackpot (despite the different number of reels) and both also need to see a maximum bet of 3.00 wagered on the game in order to stand a chance of landing the top progressive prize.
That is because on both games, the way to win is to land the Major Millions Wild symbol right across the last pay line of the slot. If you do this having played a maximum bet, then rather than winning the base game jackpot prize of a few thousand coins, you instead win the progressive jackpot prize, which until recently stood at over 2.6 million.
You can learn a lot more about the Major Millions slot and its progressive jackpot history by checking our review of the game in the link.
The game has been in operation for a significant amount of time now but this latest win, when confirmed, would be one of the largest prizes ever won on the jackpot slot and could, potentially, be a new record payout for the game, although this is still in the process of being verified.
What we do know is that the Major Millions progressive jackpot is seeded at 250,000 when the jackpot is won completely (and this only occurs when it is won by a player playing with British Pounds as their currency), so the vast majority of jackpot payouts are between 250,000 and 1,000,000 and it is only on occasion that the jackpot rises above a million, let alone two million.
It is not the first time that Major Millions has made the news with a big win. Back in June 2004, one lucky player won a prize of €1.4 million when playing the game at Jackpot City Casino. Back then, in the period before games like the Mega Moolah slot and Wheel of Wishes slot, this was a massive jackpot win and generated big news.
We also saw million plus winners in January, February, August and September in 2019. In August 2018, there was another big jackpot win of 2.8 million, which could be the win that is still slightly larger than the most recent jackpot win, depending on which currency each was landed in and the comparative values of those currencies.
How was the last Major Millions jackpot won?
Just prior to the big jackpot win this week, we also saw two smaller wins, both of around 25,000 on the 9th and 10th March, which did see the jackpot take a small dip before the massive win came on the 14th of March, 2020.
As we have already explained, the Major Millions jackpot is won by a player playing the maximum bet of 3.00 per spin and then landing a full line of Major Millions Wild symbols on the final pay line of the slot, In the 3-reel game that is the 3rd pay line. On the 5-reel game, that is the 15th pay line.
After the win, the jackpot reset to just over a million, which is how we know that it was not a British Pound win, but was likely to be a Canadian Dollar win. Given the number of Canadian Dollar winners we've seen on Mega Moolah, my money would be on this latest winner using this currency.
At the time of writing the jackpot currently stands at just over 1,112,700 and it is increasing rapidly still and of course with over a million still in the prize pool, there are going to be plenty of players trying to be the next big winner of the Major Millions slot.
One of a number of top jackpot prizes on the Microgaming Progressive Jackpot Network
The Major Millions Jackpot is just one of a number of massive jackpot prizes available on the Microgaming progressive jackpot network at the moment. Currently, the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize, which you can win by playing games like the eponymous original Mega Moolah, plus newer games Atlantean Treasures and Mega Vault Millionaire, stands at an enormous 12.7 million and is still rising.
Furthermore, the brand new Wheel of Wishes slot also has a top jackpot prize that is just a smidgen under 2.3 million at present and will likely break through that mark in the next couple of days or so, provided of course it is not won in the meantime.
There is the Major Millions jackpot prize of just over a million as we have mentioned above and also King Cashalot slot progressive jackpot prize is edging slowly towards a rare million jackpot, standing at over 998,000 at the time of writing.
With so many huge jackpots available to be won, not to mention a number of other games that offer jackpot prizes of tens and hundreds of thousands, little wonder that the Microgaming progressive jackpot network remains a firm favourite with players the world over - where available.
