Is there a luckiest day of the year to play Mega Moolah?

If you are a regular slot gamer, or indeed a player of almost any casino game, then you will know that luck, good or bad, can play a key role in determining whether you finish the session behind, ahead, or with a massive profit. If Lady Luck is your friend at the slots, then anything is possible.

As a result, many players will try all kinds of different ways to try and encourage a little good fortune to fall their way. Some players may have lucky items of clothing they wear when playing, others have other little foibles and behaviours that they may feel gives them an edge. Many people still read their horoscope to see if the stars are aligned, while others may rub a lucky rabbit's foot (though that's not so lucky for the rabbit really) or will try to avoid walking under a ladder.

Luck is one of the great intangibles in the slots industry. Without it, you can spin and spin and hit nothing of any value for seemingly endless spins, your money disappearing into a vacuum with little in return. With it, you can hit spin ten times and trigger three or four big money wins that will guarantee you a tidy profit on the session regardless of how many spins you play.

However, all that spinning around counter-clockwise three times while reciting Hamlet's soliloquy to get lucky stuff does leave me all a bit cold. So I decided to take a more pragmatic view of things. Why don't we use something tangible, real life data, from a number of different sources to discover if there are any days of the year that appear to be luckier for slot players than others?

It sounds like a crazy task, but armed with every big slot winner from 2019 at the Casino Rewards Network, plus with extensive data on Mega Moolah winners over the years, I decided to try and find out some of the luckiest dates of the year based on the data and not superstition.

Here's what we discovered.

The luckiest days of the year for slot players?

Initially, when trawling through the data for 2019 winners, I decided that my benchmark would be three big jackpot triggers in a single day. However, what I found was that it was actually relatively common for this to occur over the course of the year across the games in the Microgaming Progressive Jackpot network.

In fact, most months saw at least one, if not several instances of different players winning three big money progressive jackpot prizes in a single day. In April, for example, we saw three winners or more on the 5^th, 11^th, 23rd, 25^th and 29^th of the month.

So I revised my numbers upwards and said that I would only consider days when there were four or more big money progressive jackpot winners and that narrowed the field down a great deal more.

Days on which four big money progressive jackpots were triggered in 2019

In total there were 11 days in the year when we saw four big money jackpot awarded to players on the Microgaming progressive jackpot network and they are listed in chronological order below:

• 4^th January
• 19^th January
• 8^th February
• 1^st March
• 27^th March
• 7^th May
• 3^rd July
• 16^th July
• 21^st August
• 24^th August
• 3^rd November

However, for the luckiest day of 2019 in terms of the number of progressive jackpot prizes awarded, we have to move on to days when there were five different progressive jackpot triggers on a single day and that occurred just once at the Casino Rewards Network in 2019. That was the 5^th April 2019.

So it appears that April 5^th was the luckiest date, which also weirdly coincides with the start of the financial year in the U.K, but we should also look beyond the number of wins and also at the amount won on each jackpot.

For the purposes of this chart, we have removed all currency and are just focusing on the numeric amount won for each game, not it's actual cash value, so we can more easily compare the numbers across each date.

How much was won on each of the 'lucky days' in 2019?

Each of the dates below saw four individual progressive jackpot winners across the Microgaming network and the total numeric value of these wins is outlined below for each date:

• 4^th January - 226,874.47
• 19^th January - 77,811.05
• 8^th February - 111,327.49
• 1^st March - 36,814.74
• 27^th March - 131,628.97
• 5^th April (5 wins) - 79,314.69
• 7^th May - 219,984.09
• 3^rd July - 71,982.43
• 16^th July - 137,558.40
• 21^st August - 121,315.77
• 24^th August - 97,798.29
• 3^rd November - 69,418.41

What this data clearly shows is that having a larger number of wins does not necessarily mean bigger pay outs and when you look at this data, you can also see that on each of these dates, no top Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize was won.

So while these dates may be lucky in terms of the number of jackpot prizes won, with April 5^th being the best day of the year in those terms, when it comes to the actual size of the jackpots awarded, it does not follow that more jackpots won mean there will be more money won.

A simple example of this is the 30^th January 2019, which saw a jackpot prize of over 20 million Canadian dollars won on that day by one lucky Mega Moolah player, which far eclipses any of the total cash amounts won by players on the luckiest days of 2019.

So when were the biggest jackpot prizes awarded in 2019?

The Casino Rewards network saw six Mega Moolah top progressive jackpot prize triggers in 2019 and these are listed chronologically below:

• January 30^th 2019 - CA$20,059,287.29
• March 5^th 2019 - US$12,945,668.34
• March 6^th 2019 - CA$3,308,063.71
• September 5^th 2019 - CA$4,746,748.54
• September 30^th 2019 - CA$4,445,011.37
• October 16^th 2019 - €3,558,858.66

So if we combine this data with the data on the luckiest days in terms of number of wins, we can narrow down the period from the 1^st March to the 6^th March 2019 as being the luckiest time to play at the Casino Rewards network in 2019, as not only did we see one day with four winners (1^st), but we also saw the Mega Moolah top progressive jackpot prize triggered twice in that time, once on the 5^th March and a day later on the 6^th.

However, in terms of the history of Mega Moolah, there are some days in the year that have been luckier than others, and one day in the year which has seen a winner landed on it in three separate years.

2017 was an incredible year for Mega Moolah for the sheer number of wins landed on the game, but what was also remarkable was that on two separate occasions that year, we saw two winners of the top jackpot prize landed on the same day.

Those famous dates were the 22^nd May 2017 and the 19^th June 2017 and while those jackpots may not rank particularly high in terms of comparison with other jackpot winners over the years, the fact that we saw two winners so close together is very rare, especially occurring so close together.

You can argue though that this is a freak event, proof that the jackpot award on Mega Moolah is totally random. Perhaps more persuasive are days in the year that seem to produce Mega Moolah winners over a sustained period of time.

Ignoring both 22^nd May and 19^th June, which saw two winners in a day, we do also have some dates where the Mega Moolah jackpot has been triggered more than once. The first of these in the calendar is June 17^th, which saw a winner in 2016 and then again in 2019.

However, the luckiest date to land the Mega Moolah jackpot prize is the 15^th November. The very first Mega Moolah jackpot recorded was landed on this date back in 2007 and then another jackpot was landed on the same date in 2016. A year later, and an unprecedented third jackpot was also landed on this date, to make it the most popular date for Mega Moolah wins in the game's history.

So depending on whether you play a Casino Rewards, or just on the Mega Moolah slot, there do seem to be some days that are luckier than others when it comes to landing the top jackpot prizes and hopefully, in years to come, we can keep adding a few more lucky winners on those dates, as well as many others.
