It's elementary you should play the new Sherlock of London slot!
You don't need to be the world's greatest detective to figure out what the Sherlock of London slot from Rabcat Gaming, released as part of their deal with Microgaming, is going to be about.
The super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes is back along with his collegue Doctor Watson and an assortment of other characters from Conan Doyle's famous series of books.
Set against the backdrop of Victorian London, this five-reel slot has 25 non selectable pay lines in play and bets start at a relatively low 0.25 per spin, although this can be increased up to 50.00 per spin if you prefer to play for more. The jackpot is 2,000 coins and the volatility is around the medium mark, which means a good mix of wins are available in the game.
So, is this Sherlock Holmes-themed slot going to be one that is a crime to miss out on, or should this slot be locked up in jail away from the public? We decided to take a closer look at the game and inspect things for ourselves.

Rabcat do have a very good reputation for producing some beautiful looking slots such as the Robin of Sherwood slot and the Crystal Rift slot, and now the Sherlock of London slot is certainly one that enhances this reputation still further. The backdrop for the slots of an Victorian London street is eerie and mysterious and with a soundtrack suited to that era, the game helps create the perfect ambiance.
The animations on the slot are superb with some very nicely done cut scenes when you trigger the bonus features and the animations on the reels are also very crisp and clear. It also works equally well on any device too, including mobiles, which means that this is a slot universally appealing and playable.
The different bonus features are also animated very nicely once you trigger them and this is definitely a slot that is a real treat for the eyes.
What is on the reels?
There are essentially two different types of standard symbols on the reels, lower and higher value. The lower value symbols are the playing card lows, which go from the Ten through to the Ace. Higher value symbols include Dr Watson, Irene Adler, Inspector Lestrade and Holme's famous nemesis Moriarty.
However it is not a character but the 221B Baker Street sign, the fictional address of the famous sleuth, that is the highest value standard symbol.
No Sherlock on the reels? I hear you cry, but fret not as the famous Holmes is the Wild symbol and we will explore the different ways he is used in the section below.
As we mentioned above, Sherlock Holmes is the Wild symbol in the Sherlock of London slot and he is absolutely fundamental to the key bonus features in the game and what is exciting is that this new slot uses Wilds in a very different way to what I have seen in other slot games so far.
First off, if you land a single Sherlock Holmes Wild, then you will be able to substitute that symbol for another to land a win, just as a standard Wild operates on any slot.
However, if you land more than a single Wild on a spin, then the Connecting Wilds feature triggers. This will see a path traced out along the reels to link each of the Wilds together. Each symbol that this path moves along, will then also turn into a Wild and this can create some massive wins in the base game.
In addition, if you land one Wild on one reel and then another Wild on an adjacent reel next to the first Wild, then the Double Win feature is triggered. This will see you earn a 2x multiplier on any wins that are landed during this spin.
Furthermore, if you land a Sherlock Wild on the first or second reel on any standard spin, then you will trigger the Bonus Spins feature. In this bonus, the Wild will remain in place on the first or second reel and then the other symbols will be spun either once or twice as bonus spins. Any Wilds you land on the reels in your bonus spins also lock in place and trigger additional spins. Not only that but you can also trigger Connecting Wilds and Double Win bonuses during the Bonus Spins feature.
Free Spins features
The Holmes and Watson symbol on the reels is the Scatter symbol and if you land three or more of these symbols anywhere across the reels then you trigger 10 Free Spins. Unfortunately, the bonus spins are not active in Free Spins but you can land the Connecting Wilds and Double Win features.
Best of all, you also have the benefit of an additional Wild symbol, with the Doctor Watson symbol also becoming Wild, although this symbol does not trigger any of the bonuses associated with the Sherlock Holmes Wild. One final piece of good news is that you can also re-trigger the Free Spins bonus by landing three or more Scatters once again during Free Spins which means up to 20 Free Spins in one trigger are possible.
Best feature of the Sherlock of London slot
For me, while the Free Spins bonus is a very enjoyable game, and potentially can be very lucrative, it is the different Wild bonuses triggered by the Sherlock Holmes Wild that really make this game very special. The Connecting Wilds bonus in particular is brilliant and really adds something unique to the game and a great way for players to win a varying amount of money. The other bonuses are good, but I think the Connecting Wilds is a real stroke of genius on the slot and makes it well worth playing for that reason alone.
Rabcat in conjunction with Microgaming have produced an absolute cracker of a slot here. The game is a great medium variance slot which is fun to play, holds your interest and which packs in some of the best and most imaginative bonus features I have seen on a slot game in a good while. If you are going to give one slot a try this week, then all the evidence suggests that when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, Sherlock of London is a true cracker of a slot game!
