King Tusk slot inspired by wild Africa launched to Microgaming casinos

The elephants in this slot are African and that is further confirmed by the vast African Savannah setting for the game, with the hot blazing sun beating down on the scorched earth being the backdrop for this slot.

It does not have the cartoon-styled look of the Mega Moolah slot, but it is certainly a very nice fit with the original Wild Africa themed Mega Moolah jackpot slot. King Tusk launches to Microgaming-powered casinos on the 22nd of November 2017.

So is this slot going to be one that you, like an elephant, will never forget? Let's take a closer look and find out.

The presentation of the King Tusk slot is based on the same Wild African theme as games like the original Mega Moolah slot although this slot is less cartoon styled and goes for a more accurate portrayal of the land and its creatures and to be fair to Microgaming, they have pulled it off in terms of how the game looks.

The musical accompaniment to the slot along with the backdrop of orange-hued skies over a dusty African plain with wispy clouds billowing in the distance, does give the slot a very African feel, especially when you can spot distant Rhinoceros and other creatures in the haze.

The reels sit in the middle of this and the main controls for the slot are at the foot of the reels with an Auto Play feature available if you want to spin the reels while performing another task. The animations are great too, with some lovely animations, particularly when you trigger the stampede by landing a Mystery Wild symbol on the reels.

This is a neat and eye-catching slot and is certainly one of Microgaming's more impressively presented slots of recent times.

What is on the reels?

On the reels are a mixture of symbols but I was a bit disappointed to see that the usual playing card symbols have been used as the lower value symbols. Given the variety of life and items from African culture that could have been used on the slot, it is a bit of a shame that the same playing card symbols are trotted out once again to act as the smaller value symbols.

The pay outs for these symbols are generally low in value with most wins tending to offer you just a fraction of your stake, but you do win relatively frequently in the slot and these wins are interspersed with some decent sized mid-range wins in particular.

The higher value symbols on the reels are African themed and include items (such as an African bowl) as well as several different symbols that show elephants and elephant families. These are obviously the higher value symbols and offer bigger value wins when landed on the reels.

Wild features

The Mystery Wild is the key wild symbol on the reels and this is the symbol that is used on the main King Tusk logo, the single male African elephant. When you land this Wild on the reels it will on occasion cause the male elephant on the symbol to call out to the other elephants. This in turn creates a stampede of elephants, which will race across the reel and in doing so will turn that reel entirely wild.

When this happens your chances of landing a better value win across multiple pay line are increased significantly. The stampede bonus however is not triggered every time the Wild lands, only when it lands and when the elephant makes its trumpeting call.

Free Spins features

Without doubt one of the most appealing aspects of the King Tusk slot is that it offers a choice of three different Free Spins games you can pick from, each time you trigger the bonus by landing three or more of the King Tusk scatter symbols anywhere across the reels.

The first choice is the Elephants Dance Free Spins bonus and in this bonus you get 10 free spins and every time you spin the reels a further Wild is added to the reels in a random position and will remain in that place for a total of five spins before it disappears.

In the Elephant Stampede bonus, on each of your 10 spins a herd of elephants will stampede across two of the reels on each spin and in doing so will turn the reels completely wild in the same way that can happen on the mystery wild bonus in the base game.

Finally, the Elephants Gone Wild symbol is another 10 free spins and during this every time you land one of the standard symbols that has an elephant as part of it, it will turn this symbol into a wild. You can re-trigger each of the bonus games once more from within the bonus round by landing three or more scatters on any of your free spins.

Best feature of the King Tusk slot

There's lots of really nice features on the King Tusk slot and it has also been presented very nicely but I feel the Free Spins rounds are the icing on the cake here and what give the slot real appeal. Of the three rounds, I felt the Elephants Dance bonus was arguably the better paying of the three, but in truth the pay outs you receive from each can vary quite considerably so you are better off choosing the bonus that you think you will enjoy the most.

King Tusk is a very enjoyable slot that is one of Microgaming's better recent releases. It has some great bonus features, a fine soundtrack and animations and a beautiful setting.

For those that enjoy the Mega Moolah theme will enjoy this new take on the Wild Africa theme too. This slot hits Microgaming-powered casinos on the 22nd November 2017 so make sure are one of the first to try it out!
