Mega Moolah jackpot has climbed past 12 million on just 5 previous occasions

It has barely been a few weeks since we saw the first lucky winner of the Mega Moolah top progressive jackpot prize in 2020 win their massive CA$16.4 million prize, however the popularity of the game is such, especially with the new releases Mega Vault Millionaire and Atlantean Treasures adding yet more cash to the prize pool, that we have seen the jackpot climb from just over 8 million to crashing through the 12 million mark just recently.

This is a significant moment for Mega Moolah players as the jackpot has climbed past the 12 million mark on just five previous occasions. The fivewinners of these prizes and their total amounts (shown in order of numeric value, rather than comparative money value) is outlined below alongside the current top jackpot prize and any Mega Moolah trigger over the 10 million mark.

The Mega Moolah 12 million-plus Mega Jackpot wins

  1. CA$20,059,287.27 - 30th January 2019
  2. €18,910,668.01 - 28th September 2018
  3. CA$16,496,347.95 - 5th April 2020
  4. £13,213,838.68 - 6th October 2015
  5. US$12,945,668.34 - 5th March 2019

We can already see that the current jackpot award would be the sixth largest in the game's history and if it is not won in the next couple of days. One thing that is notable however is that four of the five largest wins of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize have all come within the last three years.

So why is it that we are seeing more bigger jackpots in the last few years, as well as, on average many more triggers of the jackpot prize across the years compared to earlier years? Let's take a look at the stats first before we offer an explanation.

Past vs recent Mega Moolah wins

Over that total period of wins, we have a total of 61 confirmed Mega Mega jackpot wins. However, if we take the data from 2017 through to 2020, then we notice a big difference. In just four years we have seen the Mega Moolah jackpot won 33 times. That is an average of just over 8 wins per year over that period. Furthermore, we have seen four of the five biggest jackpot wins in the game's history come in that time.

It is pretty clear therefore that not only is the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize being won more frequently over more recent years, but some of the prizes have been absolutely huge too. Why has that happened? What can account for this sudden surge in not only the number of jackpots being won, but also some of the massive jackpots that we are seeing more frequently nowadays.

What has caused the surge of Mega Moolah wins in recent years?

The answer to this question is relatively simple, but the reasons behind it are somewhat more complex and need a little further investigation. The only way that you can have more jackpot winners and several larger jackpot prizes won in the past four years is simply that more people are playing the game and that many more spins are being played on the slot games that contribute to the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize.

What is interesting to note here is that for the majority of the past four years, slots gamers have had just four options to play for the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize. The original Mega Moolah slot, plus Mega Moolah Isis, Mega Moolah Summertime and Mega Moolah 5-Reel Drive.

However since the end of 2019, the number of slots available to play has increased. First with the development of the Mega Vault Millionaire slot, which as a Casino Rewards exclusive game. That was released at the tail end of 2019 and this was followed a few months later, in February 2020, by the release of the Atlantean Treasures slot.

Both these new games offered not just a different way to trigger the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize, but also a completely different type of slot game to the original Mega Moolah, especially Atlantean Treasures which introduced the first chance for players to play for the Mega Moolah jackpot from 0.10 per spin thanks to its 10 pay line, win both ways across the reel game-play.

Yet very shortly, these two new slots are going to be joined by a third with the imminent release of the Absolootly Mad Mega Moolah slot in May 2020. This new game offers the first ever 243 Ways to Win option for players to play Mega Moolah, complete with both Rolling Reels and a Multiplier Trail, both of which are also firsts for any Mega Moolah slot.

So what we have seen is a massive surge in the popularity of the four Mega Moolah games from 2016 (which saw three of the biggest jackpots won one after the other) on wards. Furthermore, we have since the end of 2019, seen two new Mega Moolah slots released, with a third shortly to come, which offers players not only more opportunities to play for the jackpot prize, but also a variety of different types of game to play.

What is brilliant about this is that it bodes extremely well for the future. Players now not only have more choice of Mega Moolah games, but also more choice in the type of games they want to play. You can play 10 pay lines (win both ways) plus 20 and 25 pay lines as standard and you can play 243 ways.

What this means is that in future, if Mega Moolah continues to grow in popularity, not only should we see more winners as more spins are played, but also jackpots should continue to grow and maybe these 12 million plus jackpot prizes as we are experiencing now will too become more the norm.
