Mega Moolah jackpot landed for CA$9.9 million on Sunday 24th May, 2020


There I was, just about to start on an article which detailed how the Mega Moolah jackpot had crashed through the 10 million mark once again when all of sudden, the jackpot prize reset back to 4.2 million which could mean only one thing; we have had our third winner of the Mega Moolah jackpot prize in 2020!

Following on from a CA$16.4 million win back on the 5th April 2020 followed by a NZ$13,6 million win on the 8th May, this latest winner is estimated to have won a prize of around 9.9 million in their chosen currency.

Looking at the fact that the jackpot reset to just over 4 million, this means that we know the winner of this jackpot did not claim their prize in Euros or British Pounds, and the amount is also too small to be a New Zealand Dollar winner, which looks like we have our second Canadian Dollar winner of the year so far!

Of course, at the moment, details about the winner, where they landed their prize and confirmation of the currency that the jackpot was won in and whether they will go public or not, are all still being worked through by the casino and if more details are announced about the winner or where they landed their big win, we will bring you those details in due course.

Canada's extraordinary Mega Moolah success rate

We know for sure that Mega Moolah is incredibly popular both in Canada and also in parts of the world where they may use Canadian Dollars to play the game. This latest win means that there have now been 20 different Mega Moolah Mega jackpot winners from Canada over the years, taking home an incredible CA$144,631,475.69 between them!

This averages out at around CA$7.2 million per win!

The lucky player that landed their prize on Sunday evening is the fifth largest jackpot prize ever to be won by a Canadian player as you can see in the table below. In terms of all Mega Jackpot prizes awarded, this latest winner, in numerical terms only, has landed the tenth largest prize in the game's history.

Canadian dollar winners also hold the record for the largest numerical win on the Mega Moolah jackpot with that top prize of over 20 million, the only time that the jackpot has ever gone beyond the 20 million mark.

Suddenly Mega Moolah starts to find its feet in 2020!

After the last jackpot of 2019 came on the 30th December, it took four months for the first Mega Moolah top jackpot prize to be won in 2020. However, it was a prize worth waiting for as the jackpot of almost CA$16.5 million was claimed in April. Barely a month later we had our second big winner of the year with a NZ$13.6 million win, just over two weeks later and we have now landed our third win of 2020 and the second in May.

Those three wins mean that in 2020 so far, we have had three winners, which is a lot healthier in terms of stats for players than the 0 wins we had posted up until the start of April. Who knows, maybe this is the time where the Mega Moolah slot will be won more frequently over the remaining months of the year?

Even with three wins, we are still some way off the pace set by other years in terms of Mega Moolah top jackpot winners. 2018 had seen five winners of the jackpot prize by now during that year, while 2019 also had seen five winners. Oddly, in 2019, we saw a winner on the 4th May and a winner on the 24th May. This year, we have seen a winner on the 8th May and then again on the 24th May.

April, May and June bring Mega Moolah good fortune!

In terms of overall jackpot prizes, this means that May is now the most successful month in terms of triggering the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize as 10 prizes have been won during the month. This is now one more than the 9 winners that have been landed in June. The period from April through to June though does seem to be the most successful in terms of jackpot prizes won with a total of 26 win over those three months.

In contrast, from July through to September just 10 prizes have been awarded over those three months. While January through to March fares just a little better with 11 prizes won. October to December is second in this list but with 16 winners is still ten behind the hot period of April to June.

Lucky time of the day to win too!

What we do know is that the lucky player landed their prize at around 20:30 UTC and perhaps that should not be a surprise as of all the hourly time periods in the clock, the time from 20.00 to 21.00 is the luckiest in terms of jackpot triggers by quite some way. Indeed, the jackpot has been won between 20.00 and 21.00 on double the amount of occasions as at the next most popular times.

From 9am to 10am, 5pm to 6pm, 6pm to 7pm and 11pm to midnight, the jackpot has been won four times each during these time frames, which makes the period between 8pm and 9pm the sweet spot for Mega Moolah players.

The time to avoid is 10am to 11am as so far, there have been no recorded winners of the jackpot at that time, but of course, that could all change in the future!

So when you consider the fact that the player landed their win in the middle of the most popular time of year for wins, at the time of the day that has seen the most winners, perhaps it is unsurprising that Sunday's jackpot prize was triggered when it was!

With the player now likely to be going through the security clearance procedure that follows all big money wins on the Mega Moolah slot, they will no doubt already be considering what to spend their windfall on. It is a problem that most of us would love the chance to experience!
