Mega Moolah's Mega Jackpot storms past the 8 million mark!

There's huge amounts of excitement in the progressive jackpot slots industry at the present moment. And the net result of that has seen the prize pool increasing on Mega Moolah more quickly over the last few weeks.

Last week saw the official general release of the new Wheel of Wishes slot from Microgaming, which is offering a prize of around 2.1 million at the moment. The Major Millions slot, one of Microgaming's most venerable games, is offering a progressive prize of over 2.2 million as things stand, one of its biggest jackpots ever and of course, the Mega Moolah slot has just crashed through the 8 million prize mark once again.

That's not the only big news for Mega Moolah fans at the moment however. The Casino Rewards exclusive Mega Vault Millionaire was released at the tail end of 2019 to offer players a new way to try to win this bumper prize, while the Atlantean Treasures slot is on limited release right now, with a more general release across the board slated for the 25th February 2020.

Both those new games pay into the same prize pool as the original Mega Moolah slot and the other games in the network. This is why we've seen the prize pool increasing on Mega Moolah more quickly over the last few weeks than I can remember, especially when the jackpot prize has been around the 8 million mark.

Is 8 million a big deal on Mega Moolah?

Yes it is. It took until Jon Heywood's Guinness World Record setting win back in October 2015 for any jackpot to get past the 8 million markon the Mega Moolah slot, with the highest prize, in numeric terms rather than actual cash value, being the CA$7.5 million win by a Canadian Dollar player in April 2015.

However since Mr Heywood's big money win , we have seen a number of other big money winners of 8 million or more in the intervening time since. Indeed, the next three winners of the jackpot prize after Mr Heywood's big won all landed big money prizes., one player winning NZ$10.1 million in New Zealand Dollars in June 2016, followed by two Canadian Dollar wins of just over CA$11.6 million in August and November of that same year.

It seemed that these wins finally broke the mould when it came to higher value wins on the Mega Moolah slot as in the space of four months in 2017, we landed three winners of over 8 million. On January 16th 2017 we had an CA$8.4 million winner in Canadian Dollars, followed by a CA$9.5 million winner also in that currency. Then in April 2017, we landed an €8.01 million winner in Euros.

For the rest of 2017, the remaining jackpots won were all smaller than the 8 million mark with the only one coming close being another euro winner in September of that year, who landed €7.7 million. However a run of big money jackpots in the period of the end of 2018 and start of 2019 would see some much larger prize winners once again.

In June 2018, one New Zealand dollar player landed a prize of over NZ$8.3 million, followed by a Euro player in September that year pocketing a massive €18.9 million prize. The 20 million mark was then shattered in January 2019 when a Canadian Dollar player took home CA$20 million in what is still, in numeric terms, the largest amount of money that the Mega Moolah's Mega Jackpot prize has climbed to.

Then in March 2019, a player landed a prize of just shy or $13 million. Another winner just a day layer claimed a CA$3.3 million prize in Canadian Dollars before in May another Canadian Dollar player landed another prize of over CA$8 million, this time CA$8.1 million.

That player remains the last to have landed a prize when the jackpot climbed to over 8 million, but of course, the next jackpot winner will become a member of that somewhat elite club.

Stats breakdown of the 8 million plus winners

In total, since the Mega Moolah game began, there have been 12 winners of a jackpot prize worth 8 million in a currency or more. All of these winners have come within the space of a four-year span stretching from October 2015 through to May 2019.

  1. 6th October 2015 - £13,213,838.68
  2. 17th June 2016 - NZ$10,144,395.82
  3. 28th August 2016 - CA$11,610,536.59
  4. 5th November 2016 - CA$11,633,898.44
  5. 16th January 2017 - CA$8,453,754.28
  6. 14th March 2017 - CA$9,572,948.34
  7. 25th April 2017 - €8,012,153.35
  8. 24th June 2018 - NZ$8,332,554.01
  9. 28th October 2018 - €18,910,668.01
  10. 30th January 2019 - CA$20,059,287.27
  11. 5th March 2019 - US$12,945,668.34
  12. 4th May 2019 - CA$8.162,217.05

What is notable is that of the 60 jackpot winners so far announced on the Mega Moolah slot, only 12 have seen a prize of around 8 million or more. That means that only 20% of the time, does the game see the jackpot rise this high or go higher.

However, what is exciting for Mega Moolah players is that once the jackpot does climb to over 8 million or perhaps well beyond that, the chances are that the next few jackpot prizes will be big money ones, as even if the jackpot is claimed, there will always likely be a plentiful amount of money left in the jackpot prize pool as a starting point for the next winner.

For example, at the current rates, the CA$20 million winner of the jackpot prize would have taken around £11.6 million out of the prize pool to pay for that win based on current exchange rates, which means that there would have been over 8 million in British Pounds left in the prize pool once this winner had been paid out. This is why you often see clusters of big money wins once the jackpot prize rises into the upper echelons.

The majority of 8 million plus winners have claimed their prize from Canada with half of the 12 winners landing their prize in this currency. Two winners have claimed their prize from New Zealand and from the Eurozone, with just one winner from the UK.

One thing is for certain, as the Mega Moolah jackpot continues to grow, on average by 1 million per week, and with the likelihood that these amounts will only increase in size as the jackpot creeps higher day by day, it promises to be a busy time on the Mega Moolah, Mega Vault Millionaire and Atlantean Treasures slot games as well as on the Wheel or Wishes and Major Millions, as punters try their luck to try and win what would be a very lucky 13th 8 million-plus win on this massively popular Microgaming progressive!
