Mega Moolah's top jackpot claimed from New Zealand for NZ$13 million!

The second Mega Moolah jackpot of 2020 has been landed on the 8^th May 2020! A player from New Zealand claimed a prize of NZ$13.6 million and in doing so became the second 10 million plus winner of the jackpot prize in 2020.

As yet, details about the win are still very sketchy and we do not have any further details about the win, which casino the lucky player was playing at. Interestingly, although not yet confirmed, it does appear that this latest winner landed their prize in New Zealand Dollars, which if confirmed, would mean it is the largest win in that currency since the game began. It would eclipse the 10 million-plus prize won by Rawiri Pou back in June 2016.

It would be the second time that the jackpot has been won by a player from New Zealand in the last three triggers as April's Canadian Dollar winner came after a New Zealand Dollar win back on December 30^th 2019. Prior to that we had seen a run of five Canadian Dollar wins and four Great British Pound wins from March 2019 to November 2019.

With the reset amounts not tallying up quite for a win in another currency, I am pretty confident this is a NZ dollar win so let us put it into context with the five other NZ Dollar jackpot winners so far in Mega Moolah history.

New Zealand-based winners of the Mega Moolah progressive

If confirmed, this would be the sixth time that a player using the New Zealand dollar as a currency has landed the top jackpot prize on the Mega Moolah slot, and it would also be the largest ever win in that currency.

The first New Zealand dollar win also came in May, back on the 10^th May 2013, when just a few days after the jackpot had been won in Euros, a New Zealand Dollar player landed one of the smallest ever Mega Moolah top jackpot prize wins of NZ$1,062,335.94.

If that initial New Zealand win was a small one, the next one was considerably larger and is perhaps the best-known New Zealand win to date. Restaurant worker Rawiri Pou was the lucky player to land the prize pocketing a cool NZ$10,144,395.82 on the 17^th June 2016. One of the few Mega Moolah winners to go public with his win, Mr Pou announced that he would be using his cash to improve the life of his family.

At the time, Mr Pou's win was the second largest in numeric terms in the game's history, eclipsed only by Jon Heywood's Guiness World Record setting win of £13.2 million in October 2015.

Just a year and two days later the third New Zealand Dollar player landed their jackpot prize. This win, of NZ$1,599,752.60 came in the midst of an incredible run of jackpot wins in the Mega Moolah slot, with two jackpots triggered on the same day on the 22^nd May 2017 and then incredibly this New Zealand win was just one of two landed on the 19^th June 2017, the other of just over a million claimed by an Australian Dollar player.

Incredibly, June proved to be a successful month for New Zealand winner number four, who landed their sizeable NZ$8,332,554 prize on the 24^th June 2018. That meant all four NZ winners had won their prize in May or June and the last three had all been almost exactly one year apart! Could lightning strike again for the fourth time in June 2019?

Well, yes we did see a jackpot winner in June 2019, but it was from Great Britain, however we didn't have to wait too long after that to see the fifth New Zealand dollar winner. That came with the latest ever win in a year to date on the Mega Moolah slot, with this lucky player seeing 2019 out in style picking up a prize of NZ$4,966,561 on the 30^th December 2019.

Now we can add to that another May/June winner with today's prize-winner landing their prize on May 8^th!

2020 quiet so far for Mega Moolah jackpots

This latest winner is only the second jackpot prize winner of the five months we have had so far in 2020. Of course, with fewer jackpot wins comes the increase in the size of the jackpot and after a CA$16.4 million winner back at the start of April, we have now had two winners in the space of two months to enjoy, both well over the 10 million mark.

On a positive note for all those players, like me, who played Mega Moolah today and didn't get lucky, with the jackpot resetting to almost 7 million immediately, there is a very good chance that we could see the jackpot rise quickly over the coming weeks. Over the last few weeks, the jackpot has been increasing at around 200,000 per day, and if we can match that kind of rate following this win, we should smash through the 10 million mark in just over a couple of weeks.

2020 has bucked the trend set by 2017 and 2019 which saw almost one Mega Moolah top jackpot prize winner a month claim their prize. We have had fewer winners over the first five months of the year than of any year since 2016, when no players claimed the prize from October 2016 through to the first win in June that year (which was Rawiri Pou's win we mentioned above).

Now we have had two winners of over 10 million in quick succession and if that jackpot is not won again within the space of a few weeks, we could well have a third to report on next time the Mega Moolah progressive is won.
