Mega Moolah's top jackpot prize reaches 7 million: Will it be lucky for you?

This past weekend, the Mega Moolah top progressive jackpot prize, the Mega jackpot, soared through the 7 million mark and has since crept on to over 7.1 million. With the jackpot being won three times in May 2020, and once in the month before that, expectations were that we could see a winner in June too, but so far the jackpot has remained unclaimed.

Of course, the good news about that is that the jackpot has since climbed from just over 2.1 million when the jackpot was last won on the 27th May to over 7.1 million now and with many people considering the number 7 'lucky', I do think we may see an increase in the number of players trying their hand on the game in the next week or so in particular.

So how rare is a 7 million jackpot on the Mega Moolah slot? What is the story behind 7 being a lucky number and how has the number 7 manifested itself in other ways in the history of Mega Moolah? We decided to take a closer look at all these features, starting with a look at how the number 7 first began to be considered a lucky number.

Why is '7' considered a lucky number?

Back in 2014, a poll of 30,000 people revealed that a staggering 10 percent of those selected 7 as their lucky number, way ahead of the second 'lucky' number on that list, 3. However, what is it about 7 that makes so many people feel it is special to them, or indeed 'lucky' in some way?

It is certainly not the only number that different civilisations have viewed as being their number of good fortune. Ancient Egyptians felt that the number 12 was their lucky number. Even older Ancient Babylonians felt that 60 was their lucky number. In Chinese culture, 8 is considered the luckiest number of all, while in Japan both 7 and 8 are considered lucky numbers.

Yet for the western world, 7 seems to hold pre-eminence over all other numbers and there are some good reasons why from our history and culture.

There are 7 days in a week for example, 7 colours in a rainbow and 7 is also the largest single digit prime number (9 can be divided by three). There are also seven continents, legend has it there are seven seas (although in reality there are more) and there are seven notes on a musical scale.

Seven is also prevalent throughout our culture, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, James Bond 007, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and the sailor Sinbad is famed for his seven voyages. Even heading back in time, there were seven wonders of the ancient world but it seems that this belief may have its roots in a biblical context.

In the bible, it says god created the world in six days and then on the seventh, he rested. There were also seven deadly sins, In the bible alone, seven is used repeatedly to represent completeness or perfection. However, it is not just in Christianity that the number 7 is prevalent, in Judaism there are seven heavens (leading to the phrase Seventh Heaven), the Islam book the Quran also mentions this and Muslims making a pilgrimage to Mecca walk around the Kaaba seven times.

There are also some interesting aspects of the number 7 that link back to gambling. In a game of two dice, such as Craps, when you roll the two dice, the most common number you will land is seven (simply because there are more possible combinations to make seven across two dice than any other number).

So seven can be lucky for any number of reasons to a wide range of people all over the world, but how lucky has it been for Mega Moolah players over the years? We decided to take a look to find out.

Mega Moolah and the Lucky Number 7

Taking a look at the data we have for the Mega Moolah slot makes for interesting reading when it comes to people that believe the number 7 is lucky. If we start with Jackpot Prizes of between 7 million and 7.99 million, there have been just three reliably recorded.

The first of these was a win of just over 7.5 million Canadian Dollars back in April 2015 (which also occurred at 7.48) while the next jackpot in that range came on 25 September 2017 of over 7.7 million Euros.

The most recent 7 million winner came in February 2018 when one player landed a prize of over 7.4 million in Canadian Dollars. However, since then, despite a number of jackpot triggers, we have not seen another winner in the 7 million range.

In fact, if we compare the range of winners in millions on Mega Moolah, let's see how the 7 million range fares against others.

  • 1 million - 1.99 million - 16 winners
  • 2 million - 2.99 million - 4 winners
  • 3 million - 3.99 million - 9 winners
  • 4 million - 4.99 million - 8 winners
  • 5 million - 5.99 million - 7 winners
  • 6 million - 6.99 million - 1 winner
  • 7 million - 7.99 million - 3 winners
  • 8 million - 8.99 million - 4 winners
  • 9 million - 9.99 million - 2 winners
  • 10 million - 10.99 million - 1 winner
  • 11 million - 11.99 million - 2 winners
  • 12 million- 15 million - 3 winners
  • 15 million - 20 million - 2 winners
  • 20 million plus - 1 winner

As you can see, there is no real evidence that a jackpot of seven million to eight million pays out any more often than any other. While it makes sense that there have been more jackpots of between 1 and 5 million paid out, there have been almost as many winners of jackpots of 10 million or more (9) as there have been of between 6 million and 10 million (10)

In terms of Mega Moolah winners, 2018 saw seven triggers of the jackpot prize although perhaps somewhat ironically, this came after 2017, a year with a seven in it, which saw a supposedly 'unlucky' 13 winners land their prize! Perhaps the Cosmos is playing a game with us here!

In terms of months, we have seen seven Mega Moolah jackpots won across the months of April and November over the years, but somewhat strangely no player has ever won their Mega Moolah jackpot prize on the seventh of any month. We have seen several winners on the 17th (3) and also the 27th (2 0 including the most recent jackpot trigger), but as yet no player has landed their win on the 'lucky' seventh of any month in any year!

What are the chances of Mega Moolah triggering at 7 million?

Historically, we have seen three winners of between 7 million and 8 million on the Mega Moolah game, which suggests that it is more likely that the jackpot would increase based on past performance, however we also know that past performance is not an indicator of how a slot game will perform!

The truth of the matter is that the Mega Moolah slot is as likely to pay out between 7 and 8 million as it is at any other arbitrary amount. Each spin on the game has a chance of being 'the one' to be the next jackpot winner.

This could be in the next spin, triggering another 7 million jackpot, or it may not be for days, weeks or even months with the jackpot increasing in size.

The only certain thing is that to be lucky enough to win, you have to spin!
