Microgaming's Deco Diamonds slot is a must play for higher variance slot fans

Our love for Art Deco remains undiminished to this day and as such, it has proved to be a surprisingly popular inspiration behind some different attractions. One such being slot games and Microgaming have just added a new game to their collection based precisely on that and it's called Deco Diamonds.

Admittedly, the name does sound like a dodgy wheeler-dealer, but with Just For The Win producing the game on behalf of Microgaming (and with them having a few decent hits on their hands of late) we're excited to see how this higher variance slot shapes up.

Let's take a look now starting with a brief overview of what the slot has to offer.

Presentation

As you would expect from a slot that is inspired by the Art Deco movement, everything on the slot has that as an overriding theme. Even down to how the reels are designed and look and of course it extends to what is on the reels too (as we shall see in the section below).

Visually, the slot looks great and the sound is very nicely done too, fitting the era nicely but without being too obtrusive in the game. There's nine non-selectable lines in play on each spin and spins start at just 0.10, which makes this game affordable for all. Higher rollers though can ramp up the action to 50.00 per spin if they so like.

What you notice immediately is that while this looks like a standard five-reel slot, in actual fact the bonuses you can trigger (of which there are two) are different to the norm and there is no dedicated free spins bonus game either.

What is on the reels?

You can play Deco Diamonds at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.

When it comes to what is on the reels, there are three sets of symbols. There are the lower value, mid value and the higher value symbols. The lower value are the different fruits and include the cherry, plum, lemon and melon (each of which has been imbued with their own diamond or two) and these offer pays of between 0.6x your wager and 10x your wager for the biggest value wins.

The two mid-value symbols are the bells and Lucky Sevens and these both offer the same pay outs which range from 2x your bet for landing three on a line up to 25x for five across a winning line.

The highest value symbol is the diamond symbol and you can receive a small pay out of 0.5x your bet for landing just two on a line. However, land three or more and you can win up to 100x your bet in the base game using this symbol.

Wild features

The Wild symbol on the reels is the Deco Diamonds logo which replaces any of the low, medium or higher value symbols to create a winning line. In addition, if you can land several of these symbols across the reels it also awards you the highest value pay out of up to 1,000 times your stake for five on a single line.

Free Spins features

While the Deco Diamonds slot doesn't have a traditional Free Spins bonus round in the usual sense, there are two slightly different bonus features that the slot does offer to its players, each of which can be lucrative when landed.

The first of these is the Deco Diamonds Re-Spin feature and this is triggered when you land two, three or four of the Deco Diamond symbols on the reels. When you do, you receive one free re-spin of the reels, with all the currently held Deco Diamond symbols remaining in place. If you can add another one or more Deco Diamond symbol to those already collected, you will trigger another re-spin and this will continue until your spin does not produce any additional Deco Diamond symbols. At this point, you will be paid out.

The other feature of the slot is the Bonus Wheel which is triggered when you land three, four or five of the Deco Diamond symbols on the reels. This will of course trigger a re-spin, and the Bonus Wheel is triggered once the re-spins part of the game have been completed.

On the Bonus Wheel you have three levels, Silver, Gold and Diamond and the number of symbols landed initially will determine which level you play. Three symbols for Silver, four for gold and five for diamond. Each wheel has a number of cash multiplier prizes on offer, with bigger prizes on offer for the wheels that require more symbols to trigger them. You can win a maximum 1,000 times your bet on the Diamond Bonus Wheel.

The wheel is then spun and the amount of money you earn is your winner, although on the lower levels you can 'level up' and move onto higher value wheels to play out your spin there too.

Best feature of the Deco Diamonds slot

There's lots of little nice touches in the Deco Diamonds slot. The game itself is designed very nicely and the bonus features, while different to the standard Free Spins bonus games, are playable and enjoyable and certainly give the slot an added dimension. The amount you can win per spin is also decent, although as a higher variance game, wins are not as common as you will find on other slots. However, you do feel you stand a better chance at a bigger win than on comparable games and that is always a positive for any slot game.

Conclusion

Deco Diamonds is a very neatly done slot that captures the Art Deco feel beautifully while still offering plenty of challenge and excitement to the player. The lack of Free Spins may put off some but the Re-spins and Bonus Wheel games do more than make up for the lack of free spins. This is a very enjoyable slot and a must play for higher variance slot lovers.

You can play this fantastic new slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.
