Playboy Gold Jackpots slot reviewed by MegaMoolah.com

As a brand, there is no doubt that Playboy is one of the most iconic and famous around the world today. The late Hugh Hefner's legacy of Bunnygirls and a somewhat ostentatious mansion lives on in a number of ways, notably through Playboy merchandise and also in the Playboy series of slots.

The first Playboy slot proved to be a very enjoyable game and the second was a bit of a disappointment to be brutally honest. Well, now Triple Edge Studios, as part of their agreement with Microgaming, have launched the third game in the series; Playboy Gold Jackpots.

This rather unusual 5x6 reel set comes with a rather miserly 30 pay lines across the reels and with the addition of a number of jackpot prizes, which can pay you as much as 2,500x your total stake of you are lucky. With bets ranging from 0.10 to 0.60, that means there are some big money prizes available to be won in the game for higher rollers.

So will the resident Bunny Girls, many of whom are familiar faces from the second Playboy slot, waggle their tails to show you the way to slot success? We decided to grab our dressing gown and a glass of champagne and find out for ourselves.

Presentation

Essentially, what you have here is a clone of the second Playboy slot game in the series. The girls and the soundtrack and even a large proportion of the symbols, are all pretty much the same and it is only the backdrop that has been altered a little.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. The game does look somewhat opulent and elegant and if Bunny Girls are your thing, then you won't be disappointed as there's one to keep you company to the left of the reels as you spin as well as a number of others on the reel in their famous outfits.

The music is basic but fits the theme of the slot nicely and I am pretty sure it is exactly the same, if not extremely similar to the music in the second Playboy slot game. To me, this looks like Triple Edge have picked up that second slot, give it a quick spit and polish and re-released it with just a couple of tweaks. However, given that there wasn't a lot wrong with the presentation in that second game, that is probably a wise move.

What is on the reels?

The reel set is somewhat unusual with 5 reels each with 6 symbols on, but this does allow for a number of options on the reels. The lower value symbols are the five shape symbols, four are based on playing card suits, ranging in value from diamond, club, hear and spade and the last symbol is the star which is the highest of the lower paying symbols.

The higher value symbols are the four Playboy bunnies, Carly, Gia, Hiromi and Stephanie and they offer the best value wins. These symbols are also stacked on the reels both two and three symbols high.

Furthermore, if you land the three stacked symbols across the middle three reels together, then they can form a jumbo block, which spans 3x4 on the reels and these jumbo blocks can lead the way to some of the higher value pay outs in the game as they will award you prizes across multiple lines.

Wild features

What I do like about this new Playboy game in the series is how they are using the Wild symbols. In this game there are three different Wilds and each is a Multiplier Wild. The first offers a 2x multiplier, the next highest in value is a 3x multiplier and lastly there is a 5x multiplier. Landing these Wilds with those Jumbo symbols we mentioned earlier is one of the best ways to land some of the bigger value wins in the game.

However, the Wilds don't land on the reels quite as often as they do in other games, so you do need to be patient in order to get value from them when playing the slot. The Wild can substitute for all symbols apart from the Wheel Bonus symbol, a feature which we will explain more about below.

Free Spins features

The key to the Free Spins feature, and indeed all the main bonus features on the Playboy Gold Jackpots slot is the Wheel Bonus symbol. This is another stacked symbol that appears on the middle three reels and in order to trigger the bonus, you need to land the three parts of the Wheel on each of the three middle reels on a single spin.

If that sounds difficult, then the good news is that if you land part of the Wheel Bonus symbol on one of the reels, then it will nudge into place if it can be used with the other wheel sections. Once you have accessed the Wheel this way then you enter the bonus part of the game.

Here the Wheel you have just landed on the reels becomes spinnable and on the wheel are a number of different sections. The sections with a number 10 in will award you that number of Free Spins, while the sections in different colours will award you one of the four jackpot prizes.

The jackpots are calculated as a multiplier ranging from 20x your bet up to 2,500x your bet.

If you win the Free Spins, then you trigger 10 Free Spins but to help you land a win a full Jumbo Block will appear on the reels on every spin. Furthermore, you can re-trigger the Wheel Bonus in the Free Spins bonus round and if you do, then you can re-trigger a greater number of Free Spins the second time around (either 15, 20 or 25).

Best feature of the Playboy Gold Jackpots slot

I think it is a bit of reach to call this a new slot to be honest. Playboy Gold Jackpots is simply a rehash of the second Playboy slot with a few added bonus features in the form of the jackpots and those Wilds and it is the Wilds I feel which are the most appealing aspect of the game as they are more accessible than the other bonus features and when you land one, especially with the Jumbo Block symbols, you can land some sizeable prizes.

Conclusion

Although this is technically a new slot, I feel that this is more a recycled and tweaked version of the second Playboy slot in the series, rather than a completely standalone game. That said, Playboy Gold Jackpots does offer some decent features and I feel it is an enjoyable game. The main bugbear in the slot is the low value of wins and the relatively small number of winning lines based on the reel size, but if you are prepared to put up with that, there's a fair bit to enjoy here.

You can play the Playboy Gold Jackpots slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos. or you may want to try a luxurious casino experience and claim a 1,000 matched deposit bonus available in GBP, USD and EUR.
