Recently the Mega Moolah's Mega Jackpot hit 15 million: How far can it go?

A big part of online gambling's appeal is knowing that you have just as much chance as anyone else of hitting the jackpot. And speaking of jackpots, Mega Moolah's top jackpot prize is nearing 15.5 million. As of the time of this writing, it had not yet been won. How high can it go?

That is always the big question when you are talking about progressive jackpots. By their nature, they continue growing until someone wins them. More on that later. But for the moment, is it conceivable that the Mega Moolah jackpot could eclipse $20 million? Could it go higher?

Anything is possible, at least theoretically. As such, the large jackpots Mega Moolah is known for represent just one of the reasons it continues to be one of the most popular video slot games online. And remember this: Mega Moolah doesn't have just one jackpot, it has four. They are the Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega jackpots.

More about progressive jackpots

We can ask how high the Mega Moolah jackpot will go based on the nature of progressive jackpots. A progressive jackpot is so named because it gets progressively larger. Every progressive jackpot starts with a minimum amount. Let us just pull a number out of thin air: $1,000,000.

Everyone playing that game at any particular time, no matter where they are, contributes to the jackpot with every spin. How? A portion of the wager placed on each spin goes into the jackpot. Even if you have 10,000 players working the same video slot at the same time, all of them contribute to the progressive jackpot as they play.

The longer the jackpot goes without being won, the more money is contributed to it. Finally producing a winner reduces the jackpot back to its base amount and the entire process starts again. The best part of all is that winning is up to lady luck. Someone could win five minutes after the jackpot is reset to its base amount. On the other hand, the jackpot could continue growing for weeks or months if no one wins it.

Growing by the day

So is 20 million out of the question? Not at all. If you head on over to the Mega Moolah slot page, or the Mega Jackpot page, you'll see a line graph that tracks the growth of the jackpot since the start of the year. You will notice that Mega Moolah's Mega jackpot grows at roughly 250k per day. That means every 4 days the jackpot goes without being won, an additional 1 million is added to the pot.

Again, the jackpot was sitting in just under $15.5 million at the time of this writing. It could easily be at $20 million in about two weeks. It could be at $25 million by the end of April. Do you get the point?

It has been said that all you need to win the lottery is a dream and some money to buy a ticket. Well, the same is true of the Mega Moolah jackpot. Bear in mind that video slots operate via random number generators that determine how the symbols fall. Your chances of winning are just as great as any other player. There is no reason you cannot win that jackpot.

How this jackpot works

Different video slots offering progressive jackpots utilize different means of awarding said jackpots. In Mega Moolah's case, winning the jackpot requires being able to play a special bonus game. That bonus game is triggered randomly during regular play. In other words, you do not have to land certain symbols to trigger the game; it is triggered by chance.

Triggering the game will bring up a special screen featuring a spinning wheel. On the wheel are placeholders for each of the four jackpots. You spin away and see what happens. If the spinner lands on one of the jackpot placeholders, you win that amount. The jackpot resets to its base amount and you return to regular game-play.

You could obviously keep playing if you wanted to. After all, there's no point in leaving a huge progressive jackpot to someone else.

Past Mega Moolah winners

By now you're probably asking yourself what the record Mega Moolah jackpot winning is. The current Guinness World Record belongs to a British soldier who won £13.2 million back in 2015 on the Mega Moolah. If no one wins in the next few days, his record is likely to be eclipsed. Wouldn't that be something?

Just so you know, Mega Moolah is well known for its impressive Mega Jackpots. Over the years we have seen jackpots of:

  • CA$20 million in 2019.
  • US$12.9 million in 2019.
  • €18.9 million in 2018.
  • NZ$10.1 million in 2017.

You can visit the Mega Moolah winners page to read more. The fact of the matter is that Mega Moolah is well known for its sizable jackpots and happy winners. We suppose Microgaming is equally happy. Mega Moolah is their flagship video slot and just one game in an impressive line-up of progressive games.

More about Mega Moolah

Mega Moolah was released several years ago and then updated for mobile use just a few years ago. The game is themed around the Serengeti plains of Africa. Its lower paying symbols are your typical playing card symbols from 10 through Ace. The higher paying symbols are all animals you would expect to see on a safari. Symbols include a lion, monkey, zebra, giraffe, ibis, lion, elephant, and buffalo.

Across the top of the screen are four boxes displaying the running totals of each of the jackpots. Along both sides of the playing field are numbered rectangles representing each of the game's 25 pay lines. Everything is set against a beautiful backdrop that looks like the Serengeti at dusk and fun Lion King -like sound track.

How to pay the game

Mega Moolah is one of those video slots that lets you choose the number of active pay lines you want to play for each spin. Along the bottom of the screen are the controls for making your choices, including one that allows you to select the number of active pay lines. You can also choose the number of coins you want to wager on each pay line. Finally, you can choose the value of your coins as well.

Experienced video slot players understand how all of this works. If you are new to video slots, you might want to look for a Mega Moolah casino that lets you play some slots for free. That way you can spend a few minutes familiarising yourself with slots before you actually make any bets.

At any rate, Mega Moolah is extremely easy to navigate. Everything is pretty straightforward, and you can follow all the action on a single screen. Playing is as simple as selecting your active pay lines, choosing the number of coins and coin value, and spinning the reels.

By the way, this is a five-reel game. In order to win on any given spin, you have to land three like symbols in consecutive positions on any pay line beginning from the far-left position. Note that pay lines don't run just straight across. With five reels and three positions per reel, you only have 15 symbols to work with. This means that lines need to run horizontally, diagonally, and in combinations of both.

Mega Moolah also offers a bonus game presented as Free Spins. What are Free Spins? These are spins that give you an opportunity to win without requiring you to place a bet. Mega Moolah is like most other video slots in that you have to land a certain number of Scatter symbols in order to activate the Free Spins Bonus Game.

Doing so rewards you with 15 Free Spins. Any wins recorded during your spins are tripled. How's that for great game-play? You get to win triple prizes without having to wager anything. Just the Free Spins alone make a very good reason to give Mega Moolah to try.

It is all about the jackpot

We should probably close this post by bringing the discussion back around to the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot. After all, that's what this game is really about. If you are going to play, you want a shot at one of those four jackpots - preferably hitting the Mega jackpot.

Remember that Mega Moolah's jackpots are progressive. Every time you spin the reels and don't get a chance to play for one of them, you are still contributing. Every spin of the reels makes the jackpots larger and larger. You could be contributing to your own big win.

How high can the Mega Moolah jackpot go? No one really knows. The current jackpot is just over 15 million, but very few would be surprised to see it eclipse that number within a few days. Perhaps the next record winner will be somewhere in the 20 million range.
