Roman Power slot offers a 4000x top jackpot prize! Video review
The Roman Empire once ruled the majority of Europe and did so for hundreds of years, and the Roman Power Slot, which is Spin Play Games first offering as part of their deal with Microgaming, celebrates that fact with this 20 pay line, 5x3 reel slot.
My gut instinct is that this slot has been designed to use a similar game engine to the likes of Aurora Wilds and Atlantean Treasures but instead of 10 lines, win both ways, simply uses 20 pay lines and more Expanding Wilds across all five reels. That sounds like a promising start, especially given how popular these types of games are.
However, does this then make this slot an improvement on that, or is what we are left with essentially a 20 pay line slot, that doesn't even offer a Free Spins game of note? Nor even a Free Respin when you land an Expanding Wild?
We decided to take a closer look to see for ourselves. Is this one Roman gladiator set for glory at the Coliseum, or is it a big thumbs down and off to be food for the lions? Let's look at what the slot offers in more detail.

Presentation
The presentation of the Roman Power slot has been nicely done, if being a little simplistic. The slot is set in a Roman Temple with a fire burning at the top of the reels. A rather daunting orange sunset provides the backdrop and the stirring music that accompanies the game does fit the style of slot very nicely.
The five reels are displayed in the temple walls, with the controls either side of the reels. Overall, the look and sound of the game is fine. It is not overly ambitious, but seeing as this is Spin Play Games first release for Microgaming then perhaps you can forgive them for that. The graphics on the symbols on the reels are nicely done and the animations are also excellent, although they are only used sparsely throughout the game.

Where can I play the Roman Power slot?
You can play the Roman Power slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos on the Where to Play page, Bonus page, Rewards page or Country page.
What is on the reels?
There are ten standard symbols on the reels, plus the Expanding Wild symbol, which is the heroic Roman Centurion. We will explore what this symbol does in the section below.
The lower value symbols are the playing card lows and it is a bit disappointing they have been included in a game that could have used any number of Roman themed symbols for its lower value symbols. Wins on the lower value symbols range from 0.5x your bet up to 5x your bet for five of the Aces across a winning pay line.
The higher value symbols are all items that a centurion might wear or use and they include swords, a shield, armour and a helmet. Wins on these symbols range from 1x your bet up to 12.5x your bet, which offers a good range of wins.
Wild features
The Wild symbol on the Roman Power slot is the Centurian symbol. This can appear on any of the five reels and when landed and part of a win, it will expand across any reel it lands on to fill the reel completely. This can of course then trigger additional wins in the game and of course, the more of these symbols that you can land on the same spin, then the better your chances are of landing a decent win.
When you land a win with an Expanding Wild, you can also trigger the Power Multiplier bonus. Each tie your Wild expands and triggers a win, It could also trigger a Power Multiplier which will then multiply the value of that win up to 10x the standard amount. These Power Multipliers however do not trigger on every occasion that a Wild win is recorded.
The Centurion Wild also offers the highest winning lines in the slot when landed across the reels, with wins from 2.5x your bet up to 20x your bet, but of course with the Wilds Expanding, you can win this amount across all 20 pay lines if you are lucky enough.
Free Spins features
Somewhat incredibly, there is no Free Spins bons on the Roman Power slot. The only bonus is the Expanding Wild and Power Multiplier bonuses that we have outlined in the section above. Not only is this unusual, but on a game with little to no other features, it simply beggars belief that Microgaming would want to put their name to such a simplistic slot that looks like it should have been released back in the mid 1990s.
Best feature of the Roman Power slot
Well this is a pretty easy one to answer as there is only one feature on the Roman Power slot and that is the Expanding Hero Wild bonus with the Power Multiplier kicking in on some wins. Sure it is a good bonus and can be especially beneficial when you land more than one of these symbols across the reel and have a chance at a bigger value win, but it is essentially just an Expanding Wild symbol with a multiplier randomly tacked on. I would have expected something a little more adventurous for a company seeking to make its mark in the modern slot industry with its first release to be truthful.
Conclusion
To say that the Roman Power slot is underwhelming is an understatement. The game is nicely enough presented and the rousing music that accompanies the game is a nice touch. Graphically the game is fine too, but it is just the substance of the game. The base game is your usual high variance game, but there is just the one bonus, the Wild symbol with the Expanding Wild feature and Power Multiplier on some wins. While this is a nice feature it just doesn't trigger often enough or have any real excitement attached to it as you get with a Free Spins or similar bonus round. I think in making this game accessible, Spin Play Games have produced a slot which is probably 10 years behind the times, which is a real shame as the potential for a very good game is there.
