Romanov Riches slot announced by Microgaming & Fortune Factory Studios

Romanov Riches slot from Microgaming and Fortune Factory Studios

It's been a busy time for Microgaming of late. Not satisfied with a slew of new titles to hit casinos over the past couple of months, the company has announced that it has signed another deal with an independent studio to exclusively develop content for them.

The news comes hot on the heels of the three other deals that Microgaming have announced over the last few months, it began with the launch of Playboy Gold, the slot developed exclusively for Microgaming by Triple Edge Studios back in March this year. A short time later, in June, it was announced that Stormcraft Studios would develop content exclusively for the company and their first release followed on the 20th June, the excellent futuristic Fortunium.

Then early in September, Microgaming also announced that they had agreed a deal with Slingshot Studios to develop further content for the company after the October 10th release of their eagerly-awaited Cash of Kingdoms slot, which had been previewed at the ICE 2018 event back in February.

This trio of announcement was then followed in October with the news that Fortune Factory Studios would become the latest independent studio that would be tasked with developing new games for the company, the first of which, Romanov Riches, is set to be released within the next few days.

2018 has already been a year of great change at Microgaming with long time CEO Roger Raatgever moving on and being replaced by John Coleman. As well as changes in management, the company has also decided to outsource some of its gaming production to a host of smaller, independent studios in the hope of diversifying their content for years to come.

As the new CEO of Microgaming put it:

"Our studios model was established to bring greater diversity and innovation to the market," stated John Coleman.

"The talented team at Fortune Factory have years of land based and traditional video gaming experience behind them, ensuring they are in a strong position to deliver exciting game features and mechanics exclusively for Microgaming customers.

"With the launch of Romanov Riches later this month, Fortune Factory join Slingshot, Stormcraft and Triple Edge in diversifying our range with new premium content."

It's good news too for Fortune Factory Studios whose game production head Phelan Sykes responded:

"Our game philosophy stems from our belief that marrying exciting and intuitive gambling mechanics with appealing characters, themes and purpose-designed orchestration creates the ideal gaming experience for players.

"We are delighted to bring our 'product with personality' to Microgaming on an exclusive basis."

Romanov Riches

There is a real expectation for the first Fortune Factory Studio game for Microgaming and we know that the release date for the slot will come in mid-October. The name suggests a slot that has been inspired by the famous Romanov ruling family of Tsars in Russia, which ruled Russia from 1613 until 1917, when Tsar Nicholas II abdicated as a result of the revolution. In particular, it sounds like the game refers a lot to the incredible wealth the family accumulated prior to the Russian Revolution which brought about their demise.

The Romanov Riches slot game is set to be a 5-reel slot with 15 pay lines in play and can be played from as little as 0.20 per spin, up to 100.00 per spin. The game features a number of lower value symbols (playing card values) and gems as the higher value symbols. There's also a snowflake which is the Wild symbol in the game and which can replace all the high and low value symbols.

The most exciting feature of the slot is the Mystery Symbols. Each reel has its own stack and on each spin, one of the symbols in the game replaces the Mystery Symbols on each reel, which offers you the potential to land multiple pay-line wins from a single spin, if you can land several of these stacked symbols on the reels. That's because the first two reels Mystery Symbols will always change to the same symbol (the remaining three reels symbols can be different and can also be the bonus symbol too).

If you land between 2 and 4 stacks of Mystery symbols on the first few reels, then any reels that do not have the same symbol will offer the player a free Re-spin. If you land more Mystery stacks on the Re-spin, they can change to match the same stacks landed on the first few reels, to offer you a chance of winning up to 750 times your stake.

There are also Bonus stacks in the game and if you land three or more of these stacks across the reels, starting on the first reel, then you will trigger one of the three Wheel Bonus features in the game.

The more Bonus stacks you land the more Wheels you spin. Land three and you spin Bonus Wheel 1, land four and you spin Bonus Wheels 1 and 2 and land all five and you spin Bonus Wheels, 1, 2 and 3.

The first two Bonus Wheels have varying cash prizes on them, while the third Bonus Wheel has a number of different multipliers, which will then increase the size of your total win by multiplying the value of the two wins you landed from the first two Bonus Wheels. It is possible to win up to 1,000x your total stake in this bonus. Early indications suggest that this game will be a more medium variance offering.

We will of course bring you a full review of the slot when it is released and give you our impression of how this first offering from Fortune Factory Studios looks. The second game in development for Microgaming seems to be a higher volatility Wild West themed slot known as Showdown Saloon, but the date for this release has not yet been confirmed.

The company were also responsible for the popular Christmas slot Holly Jolly Penguins slot which we reviewed (and liked rather a lot) last year.
