Sisters of Oz Wowpot slot: What are the key features?

The last couple of weeks have been big ones in the history of the Wowpot progressive jackpot network with the release of two new games to add to the Wheel of Wishes slot that was released back in February 2020.

The Book of Atem Wowpot slot hit casinos on the 1st September and then a week later, the hotly anticipated Sisters of Oz Wowpot slot by Triple Edge Studios followed it.

It is this second game in the trilogy of Wowpot slots that we are going to take a closer look at today and in particular, we are going to be looking at the key features of the game and how Sisters of Oz slots neatly alongside the two other Wowpot progressive jackpot slots to give players a nice variety of games to play.

What has been noticeable is thart since the Book of Atem and Sisters of Oz slots have been released, the speed at which the Wowpot progressive jackpot top prize increases (which currently stands at over 6.5 million at the time of writing) has increased a little, which does tend to suggest that these new games have encouraged more people to play the Wowpot progressive network games.

Part of that could well be that the Mega Moolah slot top jackpot prize is somewhat lower than it has been in recent times having just paid out a couple of big money millionaire jackpot winners but I do feel that these two new games have offered a fresh impetus for Wowpot progressive jackpot hunters nonetheless, and have also attracted more people to have a shot at this jackpot.

Let's now take a closer look at the key features of the new Sisters of Oz slot starting with how the game is set up.

Game parameters

The Sisters of Oz slot follows in the same style as the Book of Oz slots that have been released by Microgaming prior to this game. Based on the famous "Wizard of Oz" story, albeit very loosely, these games do share a similar look and style, even when they have different features available on them, so it is relatively easy to recognise that they are from the same family of games.

There are five reels each with four symbols on the Sisters of Oz slot and they are set against the backdrop of a Yellow Brick Road, which is about the only reference to the famous story you will find in the game. What is interesting about this slot in particular though is that it is a medium variance game, as opposed to the higher variance offerings offered by the other two slots in the Wowpot progressive network. That is something to bear in mind if maintaining a bankroll for the longest time possible is something that motivates you.

With 20 pay lines in play, you can start betting at 0.20 per spin but the great news is that on the Sisters of Oz slot, higher stakes players can find plenty to keep them occupied with the opportunity to play for up to 300.00 per spin, which is a huge amount and on average, you strike some kind of a win every three to four spins.

The jackpot is just 720x your total bet in the base game, but of course you are also playing for those four Wowpot progressive jackpot prizes, Mini, Minor, Major (which itself is seeded at 50,000) and the massive Wowpot jackpot too and in truth, it is these prizes rather than the base game top offerings that will have you loading up the game for a few spins.

Speaking of the progressive jackpot prizes, you can see the current totals for all four of the progressive jackpot prizes, together with some handy information about each jackpot, listed on the left hand side of the reel. You will also notice a cauldron with a wheel sticking out of it and coins in it. This is the Jackpot Bonus Wheel Cauldron and we'll explore more about how this works when we look at how you trigger that bonus later in the article.

Base Game Symbols and Wild Scatter Symbols

There are a total of nine standard symbols on the reels in the Sisters of Oz Wowpot slot, five of them being lower value potion symbols and the four Sisters of Oz themselves being the higher value slot. All symbols can appear stacked up to four symbols high across the reels, which allows for multiple line wins from a single spin.

In addition to the payout landed above, the Wild Scatter also offers a chance to trigger the Free Spins bonus round, which will occur if you land three or more Scatters across the reels. The more Scatters landed, the more Free Spins you trigger. (See Free Spins Bonus Round section below).

One other thing to note is that in the base game of Sisters of Oz, you can randomly trigger the Jumbo Blocks bonus. When this happens, the middle three reels will spin together and become linked and large 3x4 symbols of the four Sisters of Oz will appear on the middle reel. These Jumbo Symbols can be landed alongside the same symbols on the first and fifth reels, or Wild Scatter symbols, to land some sizeable base game wins.

Free Spins Bonus round

When you land three or more Scatter symbols in the Sisters of Oz slot game, you will trigger a payout as outlined above and also trigger Free Spins. Hit three Scatters for 5 Free Spins, four Scatters sees you earn 7 Free Spins while land all five Scatters and you can win the maximum 10 Free Spins.

During Free Spins every win you land on the lines is automatically doubled in value and in addition, to help you land bigger value wins, the Jumbo Block bonus is in operation for every Free Spin. Furthermore, if you can land a Scatter on both the first and fifth reels during the Free Spins bonus, you will trigger an additional three spins added to your total.

In addition, you can trigger the Progressive Jackpot bonus from inside the Free Spins round as well as in the base game and we will explore more about how you can do that and the game itself in the section below.

Sisters of Oz Wowpot Jackpot Bonus Game

The Sisters of Oz Wowpot slot uses a similar system to triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game as is in the Book of Atem slot, with one key difference. In Book of Atem, players need to collect the gems from the Book of Atem Wild Scatter symbol, however in Sisters of Oz, the Oz coin token is collected from any of the lower value symbols in the game.

On each spin, these gold coin tokens are overlaid across a random selection of lower value symbols in both the base game and also Free Spins. Every time you land one of these symbols, you collect the coin and add it to the cauldron at the bottom of the Jackpot Bonus list to the left of the reels.

The more of these coins you collect, the greater your chances of triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game, although it should be noted it is not a case of triggering the jackpot after collecting 10 or so coins, you may have to collect hundreds in order to trigger a shot at the jackpot prize as the trigger is still randomised within the game.

However, once you do trigger the Jackpot Bonus Game, you are taken to an entirely separate screen on which is the famous Jackpot Bonus Wheel. In this game, the Mini jackpot is awarded if you land on any of the blue coloured sectors, the Minor jackpot is won if you land on any of the purple sectors, the Major jackpot is landed if you hit the Green sectors and that Wowpot jackpot is won if you land the single Red sector on the reel.

All you need to do is hit spin and see what the outcome of that spin is to decide which of the four progressive jackpot prizes you will win!

It is fair to say that between the Wheel of Wishes slot, Book of Atem Wowpot slot and now this Sisters of Oz Wowpot slot, players that want to challenge for the Wowpot progressive now have a fantastic selection of games to play and each is significantly different from the other, while still offering a certain consistency of game-play across the games, which is a difficult feat to achieve.

Of course, it is going to be interesting to see what effect these new games have on the Wowpot progressive jackpot but we are already seeing signs that it is increasing more quickly, which can only be good for the future of the game.

And with a new African Legends slot coming in autumn that will offer players a chance to win the Wowpot Major jackpot only, it seems like Microgaming are not done with this exciting progressive network just yet.
