Sunny Fruits Hold and Win slot harks back to the glory days of slots gaming
Part of Microgaming's new strategy is to partner up with a number of other slot development companies to produce games for them. However alongside that, the company has also agreed partnerships with other companies to offer their slot games in Microgaming affiliated casinos. These games are not solely available through Microgaming however and as such they are known as content providers for the company.
One such company is Playson who recently released their latest offering into casinos. The game is called Sunny Fruits Hold and Win and it is a 10 fixed pay line slot that has a very retro feel to the look and style of the game, albeit mixed into that are a couple of more modern features, especially the bonus round.
This sunny, summery themed slot features fruit machine symbols on the reels, as well as a number of other items and it also boasts three different jackpots, all of which can be won in the bonus round. So how does this offering from Playson stand up under scrutiny? We decided to take a look to find out.

Presentation
I do love a good retro styled game and that is precisely what you get here with the Sunny Fruits Hold and Win slot. From the 5x3 reel set to the sound effects and the symbols on the reels, this is a game that harks back to the glory days of slots gaming, when fruit machines were called so because they contained lots of fruit on the reels.
There are 10 pay lines in play, but it is just winning one way across the reel, which was a little disappointing, however not unexpected when I saw the volatility of the slot was on the higher side. The three jackpots you can win are listed at the top of the reels, with the main controls at the foot. Overall, the presentation is basic, but very easy on the eye and this is a slot which will translate well to mobile particularly as everything is easy to distinguish, large and clear cut.
What is on the reels?
As we have already mentioned, fruit are the predominant theme on the reels and the selection of fruit is as you would expect if you are a slots veteran like me. The fruit symbols are grouped into two distinct groups.
The lower value fruit offer wins from 0.5x your bet up to 5x your bet amount and they are the cherries, lemon, orange and plums. The second group of fruit is the medium value symbols and these offer pays from 2x your bet up to 15x your bet and these include the pear, grapes and the melon.
There is one other standard symbol in the game and this is not a fruit but a Lucky 7. This is the highest paying of the standard symbols offering wins from 2.5x your bet up to 25x your bet.
There are two other symbols on the reels, the Wild and the Bonus symbols, which link in to the main features of the slot as outlined below.
Wild features
The Wild symbol is the chilli pepper symbol. This appears on the second, third, fourth and fifth reels of the slot only and it can be used to substitute for any of the standard symbols above, to help create a winning line. The Wild does not offer any multiplier though, which is a little disappointing.
Free Spins features
To trigger the Free Spins bonus game, you need to hit six or more of the Sun Bonus symbol anywhere across the reels. When this occurs, you trigger the the Free Spins bonus game, or rather the Re Spins bonus game.
Initially, you will receive three re-spins of the reels, but the six Sun Bonus symbols you have landed will remain in place on the reels. Suring your re-spins, you can then add other Sun Bonus symbols to those you have collected to increase the value of the win and for every one you collect, you reset the number of respins available back to three.
This bonus feature continues until you have three respins of the reel without adding any further bonus symbols, or you cover the entire reel set with bonus symbols.
Each bonus symbol can have a cash amount stated on it, based on a multiple of your bet. At the end of the bonus, these are added together and your win paid to you. You can also land either the Mini or Major jackpot bonus symbols in this round to win those prizes and if you manage to completely fill all spaces on the reel, then you will win the Grand Jackpot too. It is this bonus feature which gives the Sunny Fruits Hold and Win slot its name.
Best feature of the Sunny Fruits Hold and Win slot
There's no doubt that the big Respin feature activated by the six Sun Bonus symbols is the star of the show on the Sunny Fruits Hold and Win slot, if you will pardon the pun. This bonus feature is where the really big wins and the three jackpot prizes can be won, so it is key to activate it in a session if you are to have a profitable time playing the slot.
Conclusion
The Sunny Fruits Hold and Win slot is a very nice retro-styled slot that combines a retro look and sound, with a couple of more modern bonus features. The game is relatively cheap to play for smaller stakes players but really, as a mid to high variance game, you need to have patience and a larger bankroll to enjoy the benefits of the game to the full. Hitting the bonus game is key to bigger value wins but that can take time and patience to do. This is a very nice cross-over slot which will appeal to both retro slots enthusiasts as well as more modern slot players alike.
