Superhero-themed Diamond Force slot now available at casinos

Whether you are a fan of the Justice League or the Avengers, teams of super heroes joining forces to fight otherworldly foes are very much in vogue at the moment. Crazy Tooth Studios have attempted to tap into that movement with their latest offering, the Diamond Force slot, which they have released as part of their agreement with Microgaming.

The team of four superheroes can combine their forces in the game and in doing so will grant you access to the two main bonus features of the slot. This is a 1024 Ways to Win slot on a 5x4 reel set that allows you to win anywhere across the reels, provided you have three symbols adjacent to each other on the reels.

To help you land wins the symbols are stacked and there are Wild symbols on the outermost reels too. So does this new slot punch above its weight and do the team work cohesively, or are these Diamond Force superheroes ones that fail to shine? We decided to take a closer look and find out.

Presentation

Set against a somewhat futuristic backdrop of a large city, the Diamond Force isn't about the gem, but rather a team of superheroes that are out to defend and protect the city. There are four different members of the team, one on each of the first four reels and they combine together to unlock some of the main bonus features of the slot.

I have to say that the sound on the slot is excellent, but I was a little disappointed with the graphics. The characters of the superheroes are not that well defined and the colour scheme does tend to make them look as if they have been ported over from 8-bit games from the 1990s. One thing to note is that all symbols are stacked on the reels and that means you can win across multiple pay lines on a spin (and that is how you are going to land the better value wins in this game).

This is a 1024 Ways to Win slot and you can win anywhere across the reels, wins do not have to start on the first reel, and this flexibility does make it easier to pick up lower value wins in the base game.

Overall, the slot looks OK, but I feel could have been done a little better, especially with characters that are not familiar to players when compared to DC Universe and Marvel superheroes.

What is on the reels?

There are essentially four lower value symbols and four higher value symbols on the reels, although these can be stacked three high. The lower value symbols are the playing card symbols from the Jack through to the Queen and these offer wins of a tenth of your stake for each winning combination across the reels.

The four superheroes that make up Diamond Force are the other stacked symbols and these are located on the first four reels and if you can land them across the reels then you will trigger wins of 0.2x your bet on those lines.

Those wins do seem miserly to be fair, but the good news is that with the symbols being stacked you are able to win across multiple pay lines and it is by this method that you can land some wins that are greater than your stake.

Wild features

There is a Wild symbol, but it only appears on the first and fifth reels of the slot. It is a diamond with the word Wild written across the front of it and it is used only as a substitute to help land better value wins. The Wild is stacked on the reels up to three high which means when you land it with the right combination of symbols, you can hit some decent value wins.

Free Spins features

There are a couple of Free Spins bonus features, although on this game they are called Bonus Spins. The first of these is the Team Up Feature, which occurs when you land three or more of the Superhero character symbols in full across any of the reels.

When this bonus occurs, you are taken to a different reel set and each Superhero is then given a reel and on that reel, they will hand you a bonus, most often in the form of a multiplier. The reels will then turn into cash amounts based on your standard bet size and the reels spin. One of the multipliers is selected and all the cash amounts shown are added together and then the multiplier applied to give you your win.

The other bonus is the Team Up Bonus Spins feature, and this occurs when you land two or more of the Diamond Force team on the reels and then land the Full Stack Bonus Symbol on the fifth reel on the same spin. When you land this, you receive an initial 3 Bonus spins.

Once again, you are moved onto a new set of reels and these reels feature a number of bonuses including multipliers, cash awards and more bonus spins. For every symbol you landed to trigger the bonus, you will receive a reel with these bonus items on.

The reels are then spun, and any cash amounts, multipliers or bonus spins you win are added to your total. You play through your bonus spins until you have no more left remaining at which the bonus ends, and any cash awards and multipliers are applied to your balance.

Best feature of the Diamond Force slot

The Diamond Force slot is an unusual one and while the bonus features on the slot are very good and offer you the chance to land the largest cash prizes in the game, I actually feel the 1024 Ways to Win and the fact that you don't have to win on lines that start on the first reel are what makes this game most appealing. Sure most of these base game wins are generally smaller amounts, but having the game operate in this way makes every spin more exciting as even if you don't land a winning combination on the first two reels, you could still land it on the last three.

Conclusion

The Diamond Force slot is a real mix of a slot. I think the presentation could be better and I'd have liked a little more back story to the characters somehow included in the game. That said the bonus features on the slot are nicely done and are varied enough so that you want to play on until you activate all of them. For me the 1024 Ways to Win is the real icing on the cake for the game as it does mean every spin has greater longevity than a standard slot.

You can play Diamond Force slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.
