Take a stab at the Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword slot for some big wins!
For many years, the way you became a character loved by the public would be to star in your own TV or Film, then if you were popular enough, you would maybe become the feature of a computer game based on the Film or TV show.
However, by the 1990s, gaming had really taken off and that natural order of things was being reversed. Characters like Sonic and Mario had already shown that console characters could have a life beyond gaming and then came Lara Croft, star of the Tomb Raider series of games, which then became a successful film franchise.
The games spawned a number of hit films and also a couple of slots. The original Tomb Raider slot was a big hit for Microgaming so it was no surprise when Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword was released back in 2008.
So how has this antiquity of a bygone era of slot gaming aged over time? Let's take a closer look and find out.

When Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword was first released, the graphics on the slot were pretty much at the cutting edge of what is possible. Nowadays, they do look a little dated, but they are still perfectly playable, clear and easy to follow on screen. Indeed, some more modern slots don't look as good as the Microgaming release.
However, when it comes to the soundtrack then the Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword slot is without doubt one of the very best slot games in terms of sound you will ever play. The stirring, dramatic adventurous soundtrack has enough changes in sweep and tone to make you feel you are in the midst of a Hollywood blockbuster.
It says something that so long after its release, the different soundscapes created by the soundtrack on the Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword slot are so rich, deep and varied that it is, in my opinion, one of the very best slots in terms of sound ever made.
What is on the reels?
On the reels are the usual playing card low symbols, which go from the 10 through to the Ace. Wins start at 5 coins and go up to 100 coins for five aces on a winning line. With a standard bet of 30 coins though, you'll need to land at least four Aces across a pay line in order to land a win that is bigger value than your original bet.
The higher value symbols are all passed on the hero of the Tomb Raider series, Lara Croft and she is in four different action poses in the four higher value symbols. The two higher value symbols offer small wins when you land just two symbols on the reels (2 and 4 coins) but you can win up to 2,000 coins if you land five of the top paying Lara across a line. The two lower value higher paying symbols offer between 15 coin and 500 coin wins.
Free Spins features
The Sword fragment is the Scatter symbol in the game and you receive a payout from 2x your total bet up to 100x your total bet when you land two or more of these symbols anywhere across the reels. Land three or more and you will also trigger the Free Spins bonus, which sees you receive 10 Free Spins.
During Free Spins the Rolling Reels feature is in play, which means it is possible to land multiple wins from the same spin. In addition, there is a Multiplier which increases with each successive Rolling Reels win up to a maximum of 5x the standard win.
Best feature of the Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword slot
While the Free Spins bonus on the Tomb Raider slot is excellent, the real star of the show for me is the Global Adventure Bonus, which is the quest part of the slot and where you will guide Lara as she searches for the hidden sword fragments in a number of various locations, each of which has an accompanying bonus game.
You activate the bonus feature by landing the passport symbol in the middle of a reel. When you do, this activates a feature light on that reel, which is held in place until the Feature is triggered. You have to activate all five reels by landing the Passport in the centre reel to start the bonus.
The first bonus feature is the Hidden Treasure bonus, which is a selection game where you can win all the cash available in the bonus, a 2x multiplier, a bonus cash amount or entry into the Shootout Bonus. Wins of up to 70x your stake are possible in the Hidden Treasure Bonus round.
If you get a chance to try the Shootout Bonus, you select a single disk which displays a value. You then remove other disks until you find the replica of your own disk, at which point the bonus ends and you receive the cumulative amount of the disks you selected beforehand.
Another great bonus feature is the Super Mode which can trigger at any time in the base game and which awards 5 Free Spins and on each of these spins, multiple Wilds are placed on the reels to offer you the chance of a bigger value win and these Wilds are held in place for all five of your Super Mode Free Spins.
Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword may have been released back in 2008, but it still remains one of the most popular slots developed by Microgaming and it is easy to see why. The great depth of game play, the sheer number of bonus features available, the adventure element of the slot and of course, the fact you have Lara Croft racing about the reels, all adds up to an adrenaline-fueled slot that will have you coming back for more. There is a reason why Tomb Raider Secret of the Sword may be one of the most valuable ancient relics of the slot world, and that is because it is undeniably brilliant fun to play ten years on from its release date.
