UK-based casino player lands a 3.3 million Mega Fortune slot jackpot
On the 30th September, we had out ninth winner of 2019 of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize, when one lucky player landed a prize of over $4.4 million Canadian dollars.
It was the second winner in September for this big jackpot prize, both of which landed in the hands of Canadian-based players.
However, a few days later it was the turn of someone in the United Kingdom to celebrate as they took home their own big jackpot prize while playing at a casino called Gate 777. Playing the Net Entertainment slot Mega Fortune, this lucky player wagered just €0.50 per spin but in doing so managed to land the €3.3 million progressive jackpot prize on offer.
The casino accepts players from across Europe as well as the U.K. and it offers a number of top games to play, including of course progressive jackpot slot, which pays out in Euros.
This is not the first time that the Mega Fortune slot has paid out a large sum of money. Back in January 2013, it saw one player land the largest ever win on the slot of €17.8 million and before that there were wins of €6.9 million and €11.7 million. More recently the slot saw one Swedish player land a prize of €6.6 million in July 2018.
So far details about the lucky winner are limited and that may well remain the case if they elect to keep the details of their win a secret. However, it does mean that this lucky player joins last week's Euro Millions winner, who pocketed around £169 million, as two of the newest millionaires in the UK.
What is Mega Fortune?
The Mega Fortune slot is a Net Entertainment game that has been around for many years now. As the name suggests, the theme of the slot is the lifestyles of the rich and among its symbols on the reels it counts gold credit cards, sports cars, private yachts and similar.
The game is a typical progressive jackpot game that sees a percentage of the stake of every spin added to the jackpot fund. The fund then grows over time as it is difficult to win, until one player does eventually land the top prize, which is usually instant millionaire status and a life-changing amount of money.
In addition to the progressive jackpot game, the slot also boasts a Free Spins bonus round which has a 5x multiplier and which offers some of the better value wins in the game.
What is notable about the Mega Fortune slot is that it doesn't pay out its progressive anywhere near as often as some other games that it is in competition with, such as the Mega Moolah slot from Microgaming.
Similarly, if you compare the speed at which the Mega Fortune slot sees its jackpot grow, and compare that to how the progressive jackpot grows on the Mega Moolah slot, it does take longer for Mega Fortune's jackpot to increase in value. This is obviously a factor in why the slot is not won as often and also why it can see its progressive jackpot prize climb to a large amount.
What other slots offer massive progressive jackpot prizes?
While Mega Fortune winners are generally rare, there are a lot of other slot games that offer progressive jackpot prizes that do tend to pay out a tad more often. The Mega Moolah slot, which we mentioned previously, has paid out nine winners in 2019 alone and in 2017, it paid out a record 13 winners across the year.
Mega Moolah also holds the current Guinness Book of World Records title for the largest amount ever won on an online slot game.
However, it is not the only slot from Microgaming that offers big money wins. The Major Millions progressive can often see its progressive jackpot increase to around the million mark and sometimes it can go well in excess of that amount.
Furthermore, in recent times we have seen a number of winners on the Treasure Nile progressive jackpot game. Admittedly these are smaller scale winners (all around the 100,000 mark in a variety of currencies), but the sheer number of these wins in recent weeks has been interesting and suggests that the Treasure Nile slot is one that is 'hot' at the moment.
It is also worth remembering that Microgaming has also released an exclusive slot game Mega Vault Millionaire, for its network of Casino Rewards sites. This new slot game, which has been released across most of Europe in October 2019, offers players a chance to win the same Mega Moolah jackpot prize you can land on the four standard Mega Moolah games, but in a different way, with a different Jackpot Bonus game.
UK players have had to wait a little longer for the release of this game into their Casino Rewards casinos, but this wait should end soon with a slated release date of 16th October for UK-based Mega Moolah fans.
Where does this €3.3 million-win stand in the list of the biggest slot wins?
Now there is no doubt that winning €3.3 million on any slot game, or indeed in any form at all, would be a life-changing win for the vast majority of people. However, even though this is a huge amount of money for one player to win, in terms of where it stands in the annals of big slot gaming wins, it is one of the smaller top jackpot payouts.
The largest ever documented win on any slot game was landed in 2003 at Excalibur Casino in Las Vegas, when a software engineer, who preferred to remain anonymous, landed a prize of $39.7 million on the Megabucks slot. He opted to receive his prize in 25 annual installments of $1.5 million.
We have already said that the largest win on an online slot is held by the Mega Moolah slot. Jonathan Heywood, a UK-based ex-soldier landed a prize of £13,213,838.68 back in October 2015 which was then at the time confirmed by Guinness as a World Record.
