What are Microgaming's potential plans for the Mega Moolah jackpot network?
If you are a fan of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot series, then it has been an exciting time over the last six to eight months or so.
With the arrival of three new games to the network, Mega Vault Millionaire, then Atlantean Treasures, then finally earlier this year the Absolootly Mad slot, we now have as great a choice of games on which to play for the massive progressive prize than ever before.
For the time being, it appears Microgaming's attention may now be turning to their other big progressive jackpot slot network, the Wowpot progressive network, which currently consists of just the Wheel of Wishes slot, but which will shortly see two new games, Sisters of Oz and Fortunium Gold added to that network.
However, that is not to say that the company may well come back to see what else they can do for fans of the Mega Moolah progressive network in future. In this article, we take a look at what Microgaming's thinking may be for this most popular of progressive jackpot networks, what they could be considering in terms of future releases or changes to the network's offerings in future.
To do this, we are going to look back at how Microgaming have approached things in the past and how they are currently expanding their games and features, as well as looking at general slot trends and features that are popular with players at the present moment in time. We will also look at a potential timescale for any changes that could be made.
The future of the original Mega Moolah
Let us begin by taking a look at the future of the original Mega Moolah and I think it is safe to say that this game's long-term future is absolutely 100 percent guaranteed. Of all Microgaming slots, or indeed any slot game of recent times, I don't think any game has quite caught the imagination or been as popular as the classic Mega Moolah. In slot gaming history, Mega Moolah will not just go down as one of the best slots ever made, there is a strong argument that is THE best slot ever made.
Now, even when you are revamping your offering, no company would be as brainless to make massive changes or completely change their most prized asset. Microgaming are very astute in the decisions they make, so it is fair to say that Mega Moolah has a long and rosy future ahead of it, especially with the addition of three new games to accompany it just a short time ago.
What about the future of the three 'older' Mega Moolah tied slots?
It is pretty obvious that the introduction of three brand new and ultra-modern Mega Moolah-linked slots over the last 6 months or so has really upped the ante when it comes to Mega Moolah jackpot gaming. In combination with the original game, Mega Vault Millionaire, Atlantean Treasures and Absolootly Mad now offer an incredible variety of alternatives for players.
The question is where does that leave the three older linked slots, Isis, 5-Reel Drive and Summertime in Microgaming's long term plan?
Now we have already seen with what happened to the original Wowpot slot, that Microgaming are not afraid to make significant changes to a game and we have seen them withdraw two other slot games linked to the Mega Moolah jackpot, although both the Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knights slots were shelved due to licensing issues, rather than the games becoming obsolete.
It is tempting to think with Microgaming's latest content being at the forefront of slots and progressive jackpot gaming, that these three older games could become obsolete, but I don't feel that will happen, There are many people that still enjoy these older, simpler games to play and although they are nowhere near as popular as the original Mega Moolah, and will likely not be as popular as the three newer releases, I still feel they have enough of a draw for Microgaming to continue to offer them for the time being.
If Microgaming do withdraw these three older games, I feel they would want to have at least one slot (if not more) to replace them with to keep the options open for players wanting to play for the Mega Moolah jackpot and, as we will explore in a bit more detail later in this article, that may not be for a little while yet.
Will Microgaming make any more changes to the Mega Moolah network?
For the foreseeable future, I think Microgaming are going to be very happy with their offerings on the Mega Moolah progressive network. With a total of seven games available at present, plus with the new releases offering players a different way to play for the Mega Jackpot prize, including some bonuses and features that have never been available on a Mega Moolah-linked slot before, I think the company is very happy at what the series offers.
As such, I can't see any changes to this being imminent. Certainly, the rate at which the progressive jackpot on the Mega Moolah slot is now growing, even from a relatively small seeding amount following the three wins in May 2020, shows that players are equally impressed with the different gaming options available too.
However, that doesn't mean that Microgaming will never change what is on offer. I can, at some point in the future, perhaps a few years down the line, see Microgaming revisiting their older slots and replacing them with a new and updated trio of games, similar to the release of Mega Vault Millionaire, Atlantean Treasures and Absolootly Mad over the last few months.
Microgaming do seem to like doing things in threes when it comes to releases on Mega Moolah, after the original, we had the three older releases in a short space of time and now we have had the three newer releases. I think it is reasonable to assume that if they do make changes, they will follow the trio rule then as they have in the past.
If there are going to be new games, what could they be?
If we are saying Microgaming could perhaps released new Mega Moolah-linked slots in the future, what form would these games take? Well a quick look at the more recent releases may give us an insight into how the company would approach this.
We know that Microgaming are now working with many partners around the world to develop games including Mega Moolah-linked slots and I can see this continuing, so I do see the next Mega Moolah slots being developed by third-party companies.
In the last batch of releases we have seen a 25-pay line slot, a 10 pay line win both ways slot and a 243 Ways to Win slot with Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trails. I think that this diversity of gaming options will continue in the next generation of Mega Moolah game releases.
It is no coincidence that these very popular ways to play slots have been incorporated into the Mega Moolah network through the new game releases. In future I can see other popular forms of slots being used in Mega Moolah, such as 1024 Ways to Win slots, or maybe using game formats that have not even been developed yet but which may become popular on forthcoming slot releases.
It is clear Microgaming understand that the way you play to win the Mega Moolah jackpot, is as important as the opportunity to win the jackpot itself and I can see this approach being the central theme of any future additions to the network, broadening the options for customers still further.
I also would not be surprised to see the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot also being linked to non-slot games, such as card games or even scratchcard games as we have seen this utilised in the past on some games, although their popularity does pale compared to how popular slots are.
So there is no doubt that Microgaming's Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network has a bright, long and very exciting future ahead of it and with over 1.1 billion euros already paid out by Microgaming over the years, many more customers will be hoping it is them that can strike it lucky on this massively successful series of games.
