What are the best Film or TV tie in Microgaming slots?
In the world of slots gaming, nothing is ever certain. That is the very nature of the game, but there are some things that can be said to be almost certain. Play ten spins on a lower variance slot and you are likely to win on at least one or two of those spins, although the amount won would of course differ hugely. Trigger a shot at a Free Spins bonus and you are likely to win more per spin than in the base game.
And for game developers, if you can get a licence to develop a fine slot game that ties in with a popular Film or series of films, or a TV show, then you are more likely to find that slot be a hit with punters than you would a more generic release.
This is unsurprising. Even before the advent of online slot gaming, many of the most popular slot games that you would find in real world casinos around the globe would be tied in with a popular TV show or film. It was therefore no surprise that the same level of popularity was found when the first TV and Film tie-in slots were released as online games.
The great news now is that there are an abundance of fine Film and TV slot games you can play and in this article, we are going to bring you details of some of the best you can play from Microgaming and its partners. We will bring you some of the details of the slot, as well as a little about the TV show or film that inspired it.
Our list is in no particular order, so any of the slots listed here are well worth a few spins and taking a closer look at, especially if you are a fan of the show or film that is the subject of the slot.
So let's begin with our first slot game which is somewhat unusual as it is based on a 1980s film that then became a very popular TV series around 20 years later (and on which this slot game was based).
Battlestar Galactica Slot
Released back in 2012, the Battlestar Galactica slot was based on the TV series that contained many of the same characters as the 1980s film version (which starred Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict) and which starred Edward James Olmos as Commander Adama.
The slot game was a 243 Ways to Win slot that was packed to the rim with bonus features which included three different Game Modes, Normal, Run and Fight and it also had a somewhat unusual feature where you could increase your rank as you played the game to unlock more content on the slot.
The game also featured an Ion Storm mode where you could turn up to five reels entirely Wild, as well as a Free Spins bonus round that saw you have 15 Free Spins and the chance to win up to 70,000 coins thanks to a 3x multiplier applied to all wins during the bonus.
Game of Thrones Slot
The Game of Thrones slot wasn't one game, but actually two and they were released at the same time in 2015. There was a 243 Ways to Win game available and then a 15-pay line game you could play. The two slots actually played in a very similar way, and offered the same chances to win the same prizes on each, so it was simply a preference for each player to decide which version they wanted to play.
Each game featured the same bonuses and payouts and there were four different Free Spins games you could trigger, each one linked to one of the four main houses in the Game of Thrones TV show, Lannister, Stark, Baratheon and Targaryen. Complete with a rousing soundtrack to accompany the game, as well as Stacked Wilds on the reels, the game played rather simply but players could win up to 121,000 coins, which makes it one of the better paying slots in this list.
Bridesmaids Slot
Another 2015 release and perhaps one of the surprise hit slot games in the list was the excellent Bridesmaids slot. Based on the Paul Feig directed film that starred Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, the chance to win up to $105,000 was one of the major selling points of this charming and very female-oriented slot.
However, what really stood out on this 40-pay line, 5x4 reel slot was the sheer number of bonus features. The Scatter Cupcake symbol was the key to some of these games where you get to spin the wheel to reveal which bonus to play. These games included the Friendship Free Spins, Flying High Free Spins, Boutique Bonus and Magic Moments Bonus.
There was also a chance to earn Cupcake Boosters to place on the reels to increase the value of different prizes and also a jackpot prize you could chase while playing the game. With liberal use of video and dialogue from the movie, this is a truly eye-catching and innovative film tie in slot game.
Terminator 2 Slot
The ability to move from 243 Ways to Win in the base game to 1024 ways to win in the Free Spins round, was one of the key features of the exciting and technologically brilliant Terminator 2 slot from Microgaming. Released well after the movie, this fantastic slot not only featured all the key characters from the film, as well as plenty of audio and video from the movie, merged them with the different features of the slot superbly.
One particularly brilliant move was to have the T-1000 symbol able to merge into another character symbol, as it does in the film, during the Free Spins bonus round to help players land higher value wins. The T-800 vision feature also utilised a famous moment from the film to earn you cash prizes for all high value symbols, as well as the ability to trigger Free Spins with just one Scatter, rather than three.
However, it was the addition of an extra line on the reels and changing the 243-ways to 1024-ways in the Free Spins round that really made the game so exciting and combined with stunning visuals and hugely enjoyable game-play, Terminator 2 slot is the very definition of a smash hit film and TV tie in slot.
Jurassic Park
Featuring 3D Parallax Scrolling amongst many other technological innovations, the Jurassic Park slot hit casinos back in August 2014 and this was another fine example of how Microgaming were brilliant at incorporating key elements from a film or TV show into a slot.
The big base game random bonus was the T-Rex Alert features which saw 35 extra Wilds added to the reels as the T-Rex randomly stomped around the jungle for six spins and while this was a great addition, it was the sheer number of bonus games that you could trigger in Jurassic Park that made it stand out from the crowd.
Each of the five bonus features had their own dinosaur themed name, such as Dilphosaurus Winning Wilds, or Triceratops Running Wilds and each had a different bonus and number of spins available that you could select from. With a huge amount to be won as a jackpot, Jurassic Park was a huge hit with slot players around the world and it was followed in June 2017 by a second release in the series Jurassic World, which also featured a number of exciting bonus features.
Bullseye
For me, the Bullseye slot remains one of the most classically underrated slots in the TV and Film tie in series. Based on the famous TV game show, which was based on darts, the show was famous for having some dubious prizes and memorably once awarded a speedboat as a top prize to a couple from Birmingham, who are about as far from the sea as it is possible to be the UK.
A 243 Ways to Win slot, the game captured the look and feel of the TV show to perfection and it boasted two big bonus rounds, a Bully's Prize Board bonus hame and a Free Spins bonus game that saw 15 Free Spins awarded and all wins doubled during the round.
With a chance to win up to 1,215,000 coins too, this was a slot that could also offer some players some huge payouts, even if you played for just the minimum bet of 0.30 per spin. If you loved the original gameshow, then the Bullseye slot is one you should definitely take a closer look at yourself.
Halloween
The 50-line, John Carpenter slasher flick inspired Halloween slot was released in the autumn of 2017 and featured all the most memorable characters from the film that spawned a series of horror flicks. Starring a young Jamie Lee Curtis in one of her first film roles, the slot featured the use of Jumbo Blocks of symbols, which occupied a 3x4 square size on the reels and which could land you several line wins when landed on the reels.
Other bonus features on the slot included Wandering Reels, stacked Wild symbols and the Trick or Treat wheel, which players would spin to trigger a bonus game. One of those was the Boogeyman Bonus, which allowed you to win up to 10 Cash Prizes and the Free Spins bonus game which saw you land 9 Free Spins and which featured just one of the four character symbols on the reels, to give you a better chance of a win.
With a fantastic backdrop to the slot of a shack house in the sticks and of course, Michael Myers making his scary appearances throughout the game, the Halloween slot proved to be one of the best releases of 2017.
Love Island
I have to admit that the Love Island TV show is not one of my favourites, but Microgaming have still managed to make an excellent and playable Love Island slot from it. With a chance to win up to 125,000 you can pick not only your favourite inhabitant of Love Island from the eight characters in the game, but you can also pick their choice of date too.
Land the pair of them in the hot zone and you can win cash prizes that range from 4x to 20x your total bet and a Free Spins bonus. Land your character and another date in the hot zone and while you don't trigger Free Spins, you still earn a cash prize. .
This 243 Ways to Win slot also features an exciting Free Spins round, as well as Expanding Wilds on the third reel which will also award a 2x multiplier when they are used as part of any win.
Highlander
Watching this 1980s classic film is a little cheesy now, but many years later Microgaming landed the license to this epic film and produced a fantastic game in Highlander slot. Another 243 Ways to Win slot, the game features a number of characters from the film including Connor McLeod, his nemesis the Kurgan.
A nice touch here was that two Scatters in the base game would turn into Wilds, while three triggered 10 Free Spins. Furthermore on any spin, lightning could strike in the Quickening Wilds bonus to turn certain symbols wild on any spins. Each time the bonus strikes more Wilds are then added to the reels which increases its value for the longer you play.
With a top prize of 102,500 coins to play for and a fantastic soundtrack, which disappointingly is not Queen, but does capture the essence of the game very nicely. Highlander is another excellent TV and Film Tie in slot worth a closer look.
So if you love slot games based on your favourite film and TV show, then these are a great place to start and in truth, this is only scratching the surface of these types of games available from Microgaming. Check out your casino for details of the other games available in this genre.
