What is Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad?

Microgaming makes a point of recognising partner studios in official press releases and marketing materials. They have recently been giving shout outs to Triple Edge Studios, a game developer that has taken the Mega Moolah franchise to a whole new level with Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad.

Regular slot players need no introduction to the Mega Moolah brand. The original African Savannah themed Mega Moolah is arguably the most popular progressive slot online. It continues to garner a huge audience because its jackpots are so inviting and game-play and game theme and sounds so captivating. However, game developers try to out do the original game under Microgaming's watchful eye.

The Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad slot has not yet been released so it is yet to be seen how popular it will be. But everything we have seen thus far indicates that Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad is going to be hit right out of the gate.

Brand-new theme

The brains at Triple Edge Studios knew they had to bring something big if they were going to make their Mega Moolah game compete with the likes of Atlantean Treasures or Mega Vault Millionaire. They did just that, starting with a brand-new theme. Where the traditional game is designed around an African Savannah plain theme with Lion King style design, Triple Edge turns to the classic 1865 Lewis Carroll novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The developers have created a strange and wacky world complete with magic mushrooms and oddly shaped houses. The star of the show is the Mad Hatter who, in this case, looks more like a leprechaun with a penchant for blue. No matter, though. He is your guide through this strange and mystical land where riches are waiting to be found.

The bluish colour palette may seem a bit off if you mistake the Mad Hatter for an Irish lad. But if you view the game through the Alice in Wonderland lens, the different hues make a lot of sense. And blue is not the only colour here, by the way. The screen comes alive with all sorts of different colours made purposely vivid to drive home the point.

Brilliant 3D graphics

It's worth pointing out that Triple Edge developers turned to 3D graphics for this game. It is obvious they were going for the wow factor. All of the game's characters are brilliantly portrayed with stunning animations. Equally brilliant are the animations that power the reels and give the symbols life.

Everything here has been done with the intent of grabbing the gambler's attention and holding it for a good, long time. Even if you were to never bet a pound on Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad, you would be mesmerised by the graphic presentation. It is that good.

The one thing that remains unchanged with Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad is the running jackpot totals. Just like in the traditional game, each of the four Mega Moolah jackpots are tracked at the top of the screen. You can see the value of each one in real time as you play.

Game-play basics

Triple Edge Studios hasn't changed the basic premise of Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad. They have stuck with the traditional five-real, 3-position set up. There are no pay lines here, either. Instead, Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad awards wins based on 243 winning ways. Any three or more like symbols appearing on consecutive reels from a far-left position produces a win.

Low-paying symbols are your typical playing cards symbols from 10 through Ace. Your higher-paying symbols are characters and icons from the Alice stories. You'll see the white rabbit, his pocket watch, teacups, and even a Cheshire Cat cake.

Once again, the Mad Hatter is the star of the show. Land five of his symbols on a single spin and Win 10X your wager. The Hatter is the highest paying symbol even when he doesn't land in groups of five.

Free Spins bonus

With the basics out of the way, let us get to the extra features that make Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad the game that it is. Its first bonus feature is a standard Free Spins bonus game. Land the appropriate number of Scatter symbols and you'll be awarded with a minimum of 8 free spins and an extra feature known as the Multiplier Trail. More on that in a minute.

You can win additional Free Spins during bonus play. Just continue landing Scatters in groups of three or more. You can win up to a maximum of 48 additional free spins per bonus round. All the while you have the Multiplier Trail increasing the value of your winning combinations.

Multiplier Trail

As an experienced video slot player, we trust you are already familiar with what the multiplier does. Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad's Multiplier Trail takes the basic principle and enhances it for more entertaining game-play. When triggered, the feature automatically adds a multiplier to whatever the current action in the game might be. As you progress through that portion of the game, the multipliers increase.

For example, you start with a 3X multiplier when triggering the Free Spins bonus game. With each consecutive spin, the multiplier increases. It jumps to 6X, 9X, and ultimately 15X. Imagine triggering 48 additional free spins and playing the last 30 with a 15X multiplier!

The Multiplier Trail is also active with the Rolling Reels feature, which will be explained next. Needless to say that gradually increasing multipliers only increases the amount you could win on upcoming spins. That is reason alone to check out Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad when it's finally released.

Rolling Reels

Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad's Rolling Reels feature is very similar to the Cascading or Tumbling Reels feature in other games. It is always active during base game play. However, you will only see it on standard spins that produce at least one win.

Let's say you spin the reels and land two winning combinations. You will see those combinations being evaluated and paid. Then, those symbols will completely disappear. Gravity will take hold as all of the symbols above the now empty spaces fall; new symbols will fall down from the top of the screen to fill in the empty spaces those other symbols left behind.

Once the playing area is full of symbols again, any new winning combinations will be evaluated and paid. Then those symbols will disappear and the entire process repeats. Mind you, you're not making any extra bets to utilise the Rolling Reels feature. It is all part of the initial spin.

Rolling Reels continue until no more winning combinations are formed. At that point, you are returned to base play where you can place your next bet and spin the reels. Now let us talk the Multiplier Trail.

During the Rolling Reels feature, you start with a 1X multiplier for the first symbol drop. The next symbol drop is played with a 2X multiplier. Then it goes to 3X and eventually 5X. The multiplier resets to 1X next time Rolling Reels are triggered.

Progressive jackpots

We know, you play Mega Moolah because of the progressive jackpots. No worries. Triple Edge Studios hasn't left them out. It wouldn't be Mega Moolah if designers had. Your four progressive jackpots are Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega, and they are represented by four colours: blue, green, orange, and red. Their current totals are always found at the top of the screen during play.

Spinning the reels in both base and bonus play affords the opportunity to land a gold coin symbol. Land one of those symbols and a certain amount is contributed to the jackpots. Although Triple Edge didn't have to do so, they animated contributions to the jackpots.

Land a gold coin and you will see multiple smaller coins quickly travel from the game-play area up to the jackpot area. The more gold coins you land, the more often you will see this animation. We like it because it's a nice reminder that the jackpots are growing. We assume Triple Edge developers want you to remember that as you play. The animation keeps the jackpots fresh in your mind.

Playing for the jackpot

Playing for the Mega jackpot hasn't changed. In fact, jackpot play is the same in general. Chances to win are awarded randomly during base play. If you get that chance, you will see an off-reel game. In other words, a new screen will pop up. That screen takes you off the reels and to a "wheel of fortune" game.

You will be presented with a spinning reel with different coloured slots; the colours represent the four jackpots. Most of the slots are coloured blue and represent that Mini jackpot. Next up are the Minor jackpot's green slots. Then you have yellow slots for Major and a single red and white slot for the Mega jackpot.

You get one chance to win. Spin the wheel and see where it stops. You may not win the Mega jackpot, but you will win one of them. That is because all of the slots are coloured. Being awarded the chance to play for the Mega jackpot guarantees you will win one of the four - even if that means you walk away only with the Mini jackpot.

Triple Edge Studios has gone all out with Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad. If you are a Mega Moolah fan, you are going to love this one. It is definitely worth registering now at a Mega Moolah casino and be one of the first to play Mega Moolah Absolootly Mad!
