Which Mega Moolah powered slot offers the best chance of winning?
The Mega Moolah family of slots has been growing a great deal in recent months. First, we had the original Mega Moolah slot which was the first game to offer a shot at the four progressive prizes, Mini, Minor, Major and that huge Mega prize.
A short time after that, Microgaming released a trio of other games that had been revamped to offer players a chance to land the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize. These were Mega Moolah Isis, Mega Moolah Summertime and Mega Moolah 5 Reel Drive. Then came the Lord of the Rings slot and Dark Knight (Batman) slots linked to the Mega Moolah network. For many years, these games were the options you had to play for the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot till Lord of the Rings and Dark Knight were pulled from casinos leaving just the trio of Mega Moolah powered games in addition to the original Mega Moolah slot.
After a seven year hiatus that all changed when in 2019 Microgaming announced their first new Mega Moolah-powered jackpot slot. Mega Vault Millionaire was released towards the tail end of 2019, although it was only available in Casino Rewards casinos. It also differed from the other four games in that it had a different jackpot bonus game to trigger the different progressive jackpot prizes.
Then in 2020 came another surprise announcement from Microgaming in the form of the release of another Mega Moolah jackpot slot. This new game was called Atlantean Treasures and it was given a general release in February 2020. Again, it offered players something different to the usual with just 10 pay lines in play, as well as another different way of triggering the Jackpot Bonus game.
So, with two new Mega Moolah slots released within just four months of each other, many wondered if another game would follow. The answer to that was yes it would, and it comes in the form of the new Absolootly Mad Mega Moolah slot, designed by Triple Edge Studios and based on the famous Mad Hatter's Tea Party from the Alice in Wonderland book by Lewis Carroll. The slot is slated for release globally on the 5th May 2020.
So from May 2020, you have the following line up of Mega Moolah slots:
- The original African-Savannah themed Mega Moolah slot
- The American highway themed Mega Moolah 5 Reel Drive
- The Egyptian goddess themed Mega Moolah Isis
- The summer holiday themed Mega Moolah Summertime
- The Mega Vault Millionaire exclusive to Casino Rewards
- The underwater themed Atlantean Treasures
- The Mad Hatter's Tea Party themed Absolootly Mad
So, the question every player that has ever chased the progressive jackpot prize on any of these slots is asking themselves, is which one of them offers me the best chance of winning? However, there is going to be a BIG caveat to that question and our answer may not be the one you were expecting.
To explain this, we are going to have to answer not one, but two questions, each similar but importantly different to the other.
What Mega Moolah slot offers the best chance of winning the progressive jackpot prize?
Now when people talk about winning on any Mega Moolah slot, then they are most likely to be referring to the massive progressive jackpot prizes on offer in the game. While the Mini and Minor jackpots are nothing to get too excited about, the Major jackpot can be worth tens of thousands and sometimes even hundreds of thousands, while the Mega Jackpot prize is guaranteed to be worth at least a million and can, and does often, grow well beyond that.
For example, at the time of writing, the jackpot is just short of hitting the 11 million mark and this is just a few weeks after a Canadian player landed the first Mega Moolah top prize awarded of 2020 with a total prize win of over CA$16.4 million at Jackpot City Casino.
However, the key thing to remember about winning the progressive jackpot prize is that your chances of triggering the jackpot are the same regardless of which of the seven games that you play.
It is best to think of the progressive jackpot part of each of the Mega Moolah games as a standalone game and your chances of triggering that standalone jackpot bonus game, whatever form that takes, are the same regardless which Mega Moolah-linked slot you are playing. What those chances are Microgaming do keep a closely guarded secret, but we do know that your chances of hitting the jackpot are not impacted positively or negatively by deciding which game you want to play.
If you think about it, then it has to be that way. Otherwise the games that offered the least chance of success of triggering a jackpot win would be far less attractive to play to customers than the slots that offered more chance of triggering a big jackpot win.
- Hang on, if that is the case, how come most wins have come on the original Mega Moolah slot?
Good question, and the answer to that once again is simple. The original Mega Moolah slot has been around a good while longer than any other Mega Moolah slot. For the vast majority of time it was competing against just Mega Moolah Isis, Summertime and 5 Reel Drive.
On those other three slots, the base game jackpot was around 6,000 coins. On Mega Moolah, the base game offered a top prize of 225,000 coins. Also, Mega Moolah was a more engaging, fun and exciting game to play that also offered an excellent Free Spins round. All of which made it far more appealing than any of the other games.
Of course, the newer games on the market may offer slightly more exciting prizes and as such, it may be the case that future Mega Moolah jackpot wins are spread more evenly between the three newer games and the original.
This kind of brings us round to the second question we need to ask ourselves about the Mega Moolah slot and about winning in general on each of these games and by that we mean in the base game and any bonus features that each slot offers.
What is the best Mega Moolah slot that offers me the best chance to win?
For this section, I am going to discount the three older Mega Moolah powered slots, Isis, Summertime and 5-Reel Drive as they all have relatively low jackpot prizes and somewhat basic bonus features. Certainly, they pale in comparison as slot games to the newer games and the original.
So, which of the Mega Moolah slots offers you the best chance to win ANY money on it, not just the progressive jackpot prizes? To discover that we need to discover several pieces of information for each game. The lowest to highest cash prizes in the base game (and on bonus features), the minimum cost to play per spin, the RTP percentage for each game and also the variance level for each slot.
| Slot Name | Min Cost Per Spin | Win Range | Reported RTP % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Moolah | 0.25 | 0.02 to 225,000 | 88.12% (base game) 94-95% (incl. jackpot game) |
| Mega Vault Millionaire | 0.25 | 0.02 to 45,000x | 96.92% (incl. jackpot game) |
| Atlantean Treasures | 0.10 | 0.05 to 500x | 92.08% (incl. jackpot game) |
| Absolootly Mad | 0.20 | 0.15 to 2,343x | 92.02% (incl. jackpot game) |
The things to note in this table are that each of the spin costs is similar, the RTP's are quite different, with the older game having a much lower RTP. The volatility of each game though is high, although that is standard for progressive jackpot slot games.
One other thing to note is that Mega Moolah's win range is based on coins (the value of which can change), whereas the top base/feature game prizes on the other three slots are based on a multiple of your total bet. You can read more about this in our article: Microgaming progressive game comparison: How much does it cost to play?
Looking at the stats it appears as though in terms of the base game alone, Mega Vault Millionaire is arguably the game that is most likely to give you a win, but with this being a higher variance slot, you can never be sure how it will pay out, the same is true for all four games. You can play Mega Vault Millionaire only at the Casino Rewards casinos listed on our Rewards page because it was built exclusively by Microgaming for that brand.
In truth, if you ask 10 slots gamers which is their favourite out of the four and which they win most on, you may get lots of different answers. Some will like the higher overall jackpot on the original Mega Moolah, others will like the cheaper minimum bet prize of Atlantean Treasures, others prefer the higher RTP on Mega Vault Millionaire and Absolootly Mad sits nicely in amongst them offering some of the best bits of all.
To conclude, your chances of winning the progressive jackpot on any Mega Moolah slot is the same. Your chances of winning cash on each of them does differ from game to game, but not by so much that one game is inescapably more generous or manifestly meaner than the other.
