Which of the different Mega Moolah progressive jackpot slots is the best?
If you are a Mega Moolah progressive jackpot slots fan, then you have never had so much choice available to you as to how to play for that top progressive prize.
The successive release of three new Mega Moolah powered slots, Mega Vault Millionaire, Atlantean Treasures and finally Absolootly Mad, to add to the original Mega Moolah, plus the trio of older games means that players have never enjoyed such a broad selection of games to play.
However, it is worth noting that these games are all somewhat different to each other in the main and that they offer their bounties in different ways and offer different game-play experiences to each player, while still each offering a shot at the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prizes.
Now we know that each of these games offers players the same chance of landing the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize, so there is no advantage in playing one game over the other in terms of increasing your chances of triggering a shot at the jackpots. As you likely know, the only way to increase your chances of a jackpot win is betting more per spin and playing more spins.
Where there is a big difference though is in how each game plays, how each game tends to pay out players in the base game and during its main bonus features, and how the game is structured. in fact, there are some key differences between each of the slots which tend to make them more suited towards one particular type of slot player than the other.
So with that in mind, we are going to take a look at the four main Mega Moolah slot games, Mega Moolah, Atlantean Treasures, Mega Vault Millionaire and Absolootly Mad, as well as putting the three older games, Isis, 5-Reel Drive and Summertime together (as these games are very similar in style and substance) and look at what each type of game is like and what type of player each would most likely suit.
We're going to start with the three older games first before we look at what I view as the four main Mega Moolah options for players.
Mega Moolah Isis, Summertime & 5 Reel Drive
These games were initially developed as standalone slots, not linked to the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network, however after the first Mega Moolah slot was released, these games were reworked to include a version that contained a chance to win the same progressive jackpot element. They have been around for many years now and in truth, are starting to show their age a little.
Of the three games, only 5-Reel Drive has documented players playing and winning the top prize, which has been achieved on two occasions.
These three games are very similar in that they are 5x3 reel slots, with a relatively small jackpot prize in the base game (around 6,000 coins in most cases) and with similar game play.
So, what you have here are somewhat basic slots with basic sounds and effects. As such, these games are only likely to appeal to players that prefer these older, retro-styled games. The simplistic game-play also makes them a good choice for players that are still learning a little more about 5x3 slot gaming.
It is important to note here that these games are not poor quality. They are very enjoyable slots in their own right. They just lack some of the finer embellishments and features that have become more popular in recent times. They are most suitable for:
- Novice players seeking to play simpler 5x3 slots, but who still want to play for a progressive jackpot prize.
- Players that enjoy older, retro-styled slot games.
The original Mega Moolah
For many people, the original Mega Moolah slot remains the best of all the games and it is still the most popular slot in the series today. It has produced the largest amount of Mega jackpot winners by far out of all the Mega Moolah slots.
Based on an African safari theme and featuring a wide selection of different animals, the original Mega Moolah still stands up well in comparison to any of the modern games. It may not be quite as polished compared to some of the more recently produced Mega Moolah-linked slots, but it still compares very favourably in terms of game-play. It's a classic.
Part of the reason that the original Mega Moolah is still so popular is the size of its jackpot prizes in the base game and Free Spins bonus rounds. During the base game you could win up to 75,000 coins and in the Free Spins bonus, that increases to 225,000 coins. They are much larger jackpots in the base game than on most standard slots and other Mega Moolah games.
There is also the appeal that playing the game that started it all has on players. Mega Moolah still remains one of Microgaming most popularly played slots every month and its popularity shows no signs of diminishing, even with new games available to play.
Suitable for:
- Players that want to try and land a big jackpot in the base game and Free Spins as well as the progressive jackpot prize.
- Fans of lower volatility slot gaming.
- Players that want every spin to be a potential Mega Moolah Jackpot Bonus Game trigger.
- Anybody that wants to try the game that spawned a generation of progressive jackpot slots and a game that will go down as one of the most influential in slots history.
Mega Vault Millionaire
Having extensively played the Casino Rewards exclusive Mega Vault Millionaire slot over the last few months, I am now of the opinion that what we have here is essentially the same slot as the original Mega Moolah, just given a different theme and a bit of an update in terms of presentation and styling.
Mega Vault Millionaire is the only one of the Mega Moolah progressives to offer a slightly different Jackpot Bonus Game, where you spin up to three wheels to reveal which of the four available progressive jackpots you will win, rather than simply spinning just one wheel as happens in the other bonus games on other Mega Moolah slots.
The modern, sleek look of Mega Vault Millionaire is very eye-catching and the game has been well designed with some clean graphics, very nice sound effects and some interesting and unusual animations when you land wins. There is also a potentially lucrative Free Spins bonus round, which can be re-triggered from within to land some decent value cash prizes.
With spins costing the same 0.25 per spin, every spin could be a winner on Mega Vault Millionaire and that is something that this Mega Moolah-linked slot has going for it.
Suitable for
- Anybody who fancies trying to play a different Jackpot Bonus Game to the others available on other Mega Moolah slots.
- Players that enjoyed the original Mega Moolah but want to play a more updated version.
- Casino Rewards Network customers.
- Players that want every spin to be a potential Mega Moolah Jackpot Bonus Game trigger.
Atlantean Treasures
Atlantean Treasures was the first Mega Moolah-linked slot that really moved away from the 25-pay line, Free Spins model in any meaningful way. This slot is a 10-pay line, win both ways slot that does not offer Free Spins. Instead, you have the chance to land Expanding Wilds across the middle three reels, which when landed will trigger one free bonus spin of the remaining reels.
You can then add further Expanding Wilds to those collected to trigger further free re-spins and potentially land some very sizeable wins in the base game, especially when used in conjunction with the two higher value symbols on the reels, the Lucky 7 and the Bar.
While the lack of a dedicated Free Spins bonus round may be seen as a negative by some, the fact that the Expanding Wild and Respin Bonus is far more accessible and triggers far more often in the game, does mean that this is a Mega Moolah-linked slot which will give you more access to the main feature of the base game than other games.
The style of the slot with its win both ways across 10 pay lines and Expanding Wilds is inspired by a number of very popular slot games that have used this system well in the past and which have been well-liked by slots players around the world today.
Finally, given that you can play this slot from just 0.10 per spin, it is also the cheapest option by far where you can play for the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize.
Suitable for:
- Players that enjoy 10 pay line, win both ways slot games such as Starburst, Aurora Wilds or Banana Odyssey.
- Lower stakes players who can play for 0.10 per spin.
- Fans of Expanding Wild and Respin bonuses that are more accessible than Free Spins bonuses or similar.
- Players that prefer lower volatility slots.
Absolootly Mad
The newest of all the Mega Moolah slots, Absolootly Mad is the first time since the now defunct The Dark Knight slot, where you can play for the Mega Moolah jackpot on a 243 Ways to Win slot. This particular type of slot allows for symbols to land a win in any position across the reels.
Based on the Mad Hatter's Tea Party from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the slot has lots of fantastic features including plentiful Wilds in the base game and perhaps most excitingly of all, Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trails, which again are currently only available on a Mega Moolah slot in this game.
With spins starting at just 0.20 per spin, it is also slightly less expensive to play per spin for lower stakes players than the original Mega Moolah or Mega Vault Millionaire, but still double the cost of the Atlantean Treasures slot.
However, an excellent Free Spins round, which can produces some great value winners and its modern styling, excellent graphics and sound and enjoyable game-play, make this a very welcome addition for fans of more modern games especially.
Suitable for:
- Slot gamers that enjoy 243-ways to win slots and Free Spins bonus games.
- Fans of Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trail bonuses.
- Good choice for low-mid stakes gamers with spins starting at 0.20 per spin.
- Fans of more modern slots with modern bonuses and features.
