Wowpot Jackpot winner: When can we expect to see the first BIG win?

Back in February 2020, the eagerly anticipated slot, Wheel of Wishes was released, which featured the newly revamped Wowpot progressive jackpot.

Having curtailed the original Wowpot progressive a while beforehand, Microgaming redesigned this famous progressive, turning it from a single small progressive jackpot prize of a few thousand, into a four-jackpot prize which offers minimum seed amounts of 10.00 (Mini jackpot), 100 (Minor Jackpot), 50,000 (Major Jackpot) and 2,000,000 (WowPot jackpot) in pound sterling.

Since then, a steady number of players have tried their luck on the Wheel of Wishes slot and while there have been numerous winners of the Major Jackpot prize, which you can see stats on at WheelofWishes.net, winning between 50,000 and 300,000 most of the time, we are yet to see a single winner of the Wowpot jackpot prize as shown on WheelofWishes.net's Wowpot Jackpot page.

However, could that all be about to change? On the 1st September 2020, another game was added to the Wowpot jackpot network. This new game, a reworking of the previously released Book of Atem slot from All41 Studios, took that original standard slot and then tweaked it a little to offer a shot at the Wowpot progressive jackpot prizes outlined above.

So with two games now offering a shot at the WowPot progressive jackpot prize, not to mention a third game, Sisters of Oz WowPot also on the horizon, does this mean that we may see our elusive first Wowpot Jackpot winner sometime soon?

Landing that first Wowpot winner

The WowPot jackpot prize has been operating for just over six months now on general release (slightly longer than that in reality as the game had a limited release for a few weeks across just a few casinos before its general release in February) and during that time we have seen the jackpot increase in size from the seed amount of two million, the largest seed amount on the Microgaming Progressive Network, up to the current amount of around 5.8 million.

This means that so far, no player has been lucky enough to land the Wowpot jackpot prize on the Wheel of Wishes slot.

Now if we compare that to the Mega Moolah progressive, which is Microgaming's other big progressive jackpot network of games, the top Mega Moolah jackpot has been won five times over that period, including three wins of over 10 million.

So why is it that the Wowpot jackpot does not seem to pay out as often as the Mega Moolah slot? In truth there are a couple of reasons as to why that could be the case:

  • The Wowpot Jackpot may be much more difficult to hit than the Mega Moolah top jackpot prize. This cannot be confirmed one way or the other as Microgaming keep the chances of landing either of its two top progressive jackpot prizes a closely guarded secret.
  • Not as many spins are played on the Wowpot jackpot as are played on Mega Moolah games, therefore the jackpot is not as likely to trigger.
  • Players have not played the Power Spin mode as often as the base game standard mode, which means they have less chance of triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game.
  • It could also be that the slot fates have conspired not to see the jackpot triggered as yet. Progressive slot games can go lengthy periods in between winners, the Mega Moolah jackpot for example has seen more than a year between some winners especially in the early years of the game.

In truth, we will not know the actual hit rate of the Wowpot jackpot for a few years yet and until we have triggered a good few wins on the Jackpot. Once we have that, then we will have some data to look back on to see how the slot performs and this will give us a better idea of how often the jackpot is likely to pay out. However, even then, much is dependent on how many spins are played for the jackpot prize.

Which is where the new Book of Atem Wowpot slot comes in and where it could be a game-changer for Wowpot jackpot chasers.

The value of having two or three or more games paying into a single progressive jackpot prize

As we have seen with the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot, having a number of games paying into a single progressive prize can have lots of benefits for that game. These benefits include:

  • A wider choice of games for players to play, each offering a range of different features, bonuses and set ups.
  • A larger number of spins contributing to the progressive jackpot fund, which sees the jackpot increase more quickly.
  • A greater number of spins means a greater chance that one player somewhere will trigger the jackpot.

With the release of the Book of Atem Wowpot slot, and the forthcoming release of the Sisters of Oz Wowpot slot, this means that there will be three times as many games for Wowpot Jackpot hunters to play in order to try and claim the prize. That should increase the number of spins played on the network and as such, it will make the jackpot increase more quickly and increase the prospect of someone, somewhere winning that top WowPot jackpot prize.

However, it is important for the progressive that a winner is landed at some point. Progressive slot games are only popular because not only do they offer a chance of winning a huge amount of money, but also because players can see that the jackpot is won relatively frequently.

It is notable that slot games where the jackpot game is won less frequently than on a slot like Mega Moolah, but which still offers large million-plus prizes, these games tend not to be anywhere near as popular with players as Mega Moolah and the reason for that must be that Mega Moolah has a proven history of delivering winners.

As such, the addition of Book of Atem WowPot to the network is a smart move by Microgaming, as is the forthcoming Sisters of Oz slot being added to the fold too. More games means more spins and more spins means more chance of an eventual winner.

When will that first WowPot winner come?

So, the massive question everyone wants to know the answer to is when will the first Wowpot Jackpot winner land their prize? Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing this as the award of the prize is entirely random and the chances of triggering the win are kept a closely guarded secret by the game designers.

However, what I would say is that given the success of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network, Microgaming have a real knowledge of how to pitch their games perfectly to players to offer them the right balance of risk and reward.

It is also worth noting that it took a good while for Mega Moolah to register a few wins. Since it was released it took about a year for the first big winner to emerge. It is only in relatively more recent times that we have seen numerous winners in any given year on Mega Moolah (with the record held at 13 wins back in 2017). This has gone hand in hand with the game becoming more popular in terms of the number of people playing and the number of spins played and also the number of games available to play for the jackpot on.

As such, it may well be the case that the Wowpot Jackpot prize is not won that often during the first few years of the game, but that over time, the number of people playing the game who see that the jackpot can and will be won, will increase and the number of spins played on it will increase which in turn increases the chances of more regular jackpot wins.

For the time being, with well over 5 and a half million up for grabs in the prize pool, whoever does land the first Wowpot Progressive Jackpot top prize is sure to be in for a good day!
