WowPot progressive jackpot slot reviewed by MegaMoolah.com
Many years ago now, Microgaming decided that they wanted to extend the range of games that were part of its fledgling but growing progressive jackpot network. A 3-reel game called WowPot was produced which offered cheaper gaming than other games on the network, but also with it a smaller progressive jackpot prize.
That 3-reel version of the game proved to be a hit and then, following in the footsteps of other games that tread a similar path, Microgaming released a 5-reel version of the slot. This also proved to be a huge hit and it too shared the same jackpot prize pool as its 3-reel cousin.
This new 5-reel version of WowPot Progressive has now been around for an incredible 15 years and it is still paying out winners in 2019. The maximum bet on each slot is the same (1.50) and your chances of landing the progressive jackpot prize are also the same on the 3-reel game as they are on the 5-reel slot.
So how has the WowPot slot stood up to the test of time? We decided to take a closer look to find out.

Presentation
It is fair to say that the presentation on the WowPot slot is somewhat basic, although nowadays you would get away with calling it retro-styled. Back upon release in 2004, this was a standard slot game, so you can see why it is perhaps showing its age a little nowadays. The backdrop is purple with the five reels superimposed over this simple backdrop.
The sounds are somewhat basic with generic casino sounds and background noise providing the main backdrop allied to some beeps and whistles and digitised music effects that are perhaps a little lacking behind the vibrant soundtracks you get on modern slots. However, this doesn't impact the game play and if anything fits in with the style of the game. WowPot may have not been specifically designed as a retro slot when it was first released in 2004, but it works perfectly as one nowadays.
What is on the reels?
The retro theme of the WowPot slot is continued in the symbols on the reels. They start with a number of familiar symbols from older fruit machine styled slots with Cherries, Plums, Lemons, Oranges and Melons on the reels. These offer wins ranging from just 2 coins up to 120 coins in value.
Alongside these standard symbols are a number of other retro-styled symbols including the bell, the bar symbol and two different '7' symbols, one striped and the other with a gold border. These symbols offer slightly higher value wins ranging from 6 coins up to 400 coins.
One thing to note is that the two '7' symbols are not interchangeable as they are on some other slots.
There are two other symbols on the reels, the Wild Symbol and the Scatter, which both lead in to the two main features of the slot.
Wild features
The Wild symbol is the WowPot logo and it is the key to all the biggest value wins in the game and it serves a number of purposes for players. First off, it is most often used as a substitute symbol for any of the standard symbols outlined above. When you do use a Wild as part of a winning line as a replacement, you will also land a very valuable 2x multiplier on that win and these wins can be crucial towards helping you keep your balance topped up in the base game.
In addition, the Wild can offer a shot at the biggest base game jackpot available on the slot. Land the five Wilds across the reels on any of the first 14 pay lines in the game and you will win the base game jackpot prize of 5,000x your coin value. You can win prizes also for landing two, three or four Wilds on a pay line although these wins are nowhere near as large.
Finally, if you are playing the Maximum Bet of 1.50 per spin and you land all five Wild symbols on that 15th pay line, then you will trigger the progressive jackpot win, which is guaranteed to be at least 1,000.00 and which can grow well beyond that with 10,000 prizes not uncommon and some prizes awarded of more than 20,000.
Free Spins features
There is no Free Spin bonus feature on the WowPot slot. There are Scatter symbols on the reels however and if you can land three or more of them then you can win a prize that increases markedly in value. Three Scatters will see you land a prize of 3x your stake, while four will see you land a prize of 30x your stake. However, land all five across the reels and you can win a huge 300x your stake, although this combination is particularly difficult to hit in the game.
Best feature of the WowPot slot
Of course, the progressive jackpot prize is the big draw of the WowPot slot and the fact that it has offered some great value prizes over the years and has paid out its fair share of winners, means that it is a game that, despite being overlooked by some, has remained popular with Microgaming customers. Its retro style also appeals to a large number of gamers, especially those slightly older and who can remember when these types of slots were commonplace.
Conclusion
WowPot is a very under appreciated slot in my view. It is one of the few lower variance progressive jackpot games and it is more affordable to play than a number of other slots that are part of the Microgaming progressive jackpot network. The jackpot may not be on a par with some of the others available in the network, but its affordability and playability mean that it is still a game that will hold great appeal even 15 years after its initial release.
You can play WowPot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.
