11 Champions slot kicks off summer of football with a Blazing Wild Streak

By now, we would have ordinarily been enjoying the start of the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament across Europe. However due to the coronavirus pandemic the tournament has been postponed and will now take place in the summer of 2021.

Presentation

One of the nice touches about the 11 Champions slot is that you can alter the look of the slot slightly by selecting the colour you want the player on the reels to wear. There are a number of different selections here and while hardly ground-breaking, it is nice to get the player to wear your club colours, or as near to them as you can.

The slot is very nicely presented in other ways too with some nice graphics and animations, which really come to life in the different bonus rounds of the slot. The base game is nicely done too. The sound though is excellent with some football commentary and some nice additional touches of using phrases used by foreign commentators in among the English remarks. Gameburger have a reputation for producing quirky imaginative presentation on their slots and this is another where they have excelled.

What is on the reels?

On the reels are the usual symbols. Rather disappointingly, and my one real gripe with the game is the fact that playing card lows are used on the reels, rather than football symbols. I would have liked to have seen a bit more imagination with that given how many different football symbols Gameburger could have used.

Other than that the other symbols on the reels have a football theme and include medals, a number 7 shirt, boots, and goalkeeper gloves. You will also see a player on the reel and you will learn more about this aspect of the slot in the section below regarding the Wild bonuses.

Wild features

There are two Wild features on the slot and the first is just the standard Wild symbol which can appear on any of the five reels. The Wilds can be stacked and can fill the entire reels if you are lucky, which offers you a shot at the biggest base game win of 2,200x your bet.

The other Wild bonus is the main feature of the slot and this is the Blazing Wild Streak Bonus. You will notice on the reels, when you start the game, you have a football player with the ball overlaid the bottom symbol on the third reel.

At the top of the reels is the other reel. This real has four options on, blank, which sees the player remain where they are, Pass, which sees the player pass the ball to a different position on the reel, Dribble which sees the player dribble the ball to an adjacent position on the reel and Shoot, together with a multiplier value.

As the player moves around the reel, each space they occupy leaves a circular marker down. When the Shoot option is selected, you trigger the bonus round and what happens then is you get one Free Respin and each of the circular markets on the reels will turn Wild for that respin. In addition, any win you land will be subject to the multiplier that you receive when you trigger the Shoot option in the game.

This bonus is relatively easy to trigger and even shorter sessions can see a player trigger the bonus a couple of times (in the video, I played for 50 spins and triggered it a couple of times as you can witness).

Free Spins features

The 11 Champions slot does not have a dedicated Free Spins bonus round, which in my view is a bit of a glaring omission on the slot, but it does have a Jackpot Bonus game. This is triggered when you land three of the Bonus symbols on the middle three reels on the same spin. This is a tough bonus to trigger and it can take a good while to do so.

When you do trigger the bonus, you get to pick from 12 cards face down. The first of the jackpot cards you pick three times from the selection is the jackpot you win and that can range from small jackpot wins of just a few pounds up to the top prize of 5,000x your bet.

Best feature of the 11 Champions slot

There's no doubt that while the Jackpot Bonus game is the big cash feature on the 11 Champions slot, for me the actual football themed bonus the Blazing Wild Streak is without doubt the most important and best feature of the slot because it is constantly active in the game (with the player moving about the reels) and can lead to some seriously profitable respins with those extra Wilds on the reels. Add to that a high-quality look and especially some top notch sound effects and you have a slot with a lot of positives.

Conclusion

11 Champions was originally designed to be released at the same time as the European Championships were starting this summer and it is unfortunate that this hasn't been the case as Gameburger have produced a very enjoyable game. I think the omission of at least some kind of Free Spins bonus round is a bit of an oversight, but the Blazing Wild Streak bonus, the ability to pick your own team shirt and the Jackpot Bonus game are all big positives. It is higher variance and does have some niggly foibles (such as when a player dribbles or passes to a position they have already occupied on the reel), but those slight issues apart, this is a cracking slot game.
