Absolootly Mad base game bonus features: What are the triggers & benefits?
In this latest in a series of articles looking at all the different features of the Absolootly Mad slot, we are going to turn our attention to the main bonus features of the game, all of which you can trigger when playing the base game.
While the Jackpot Bonus Game is the bonus that everyone wants to trigger when playing one of the Mega Moolah powered slots, it is by far the most difficult and least likely to trigger on the game. As such, when playing Absolootly Mad, it is important to understand and realise the triggers and different potential benefits that are available from the features that you are much more likely to trigger.
There are essentially three bonuses on the Absolootly Mad slot, and these are:
- The Mad Hatter Wild Coin symbol
- The Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trail Features
- The Free Spins Bonus Game
Mad Hatter's Wild
The Gold Coin that has the Mad Hatter's Hat on it is the in-game Wild on the Absolootly Mad slot. It can only appear on the middle three reels, so there is no payout for landing them across the reels, but they can substitute for all symbols, including the Scatter, which is a real bonus especially when it comes to triggering the Free Spins bonus game (see that selection below for more details).
The Wild serves two purposes in the game. First off, it is used as a substitute for the symbols in the game. This can help lead to some additional, or better value wins. It is more profitable for players when multiple Wilds land on the reels, especially the second and third reel together. If you can land Wilds across the reels, especially stacked, then it is possible to win some sizeable amounts in the base game alone.
The other thing the Wild is used for is to decide whether a wager from a player qualifies for a shot at the Jackpot Bonus Game or not. Any time you land a Wild Coin symbol, it is added to the Golden Teapot at the top of the screen and each Wild landed grants you a chance to trigger the Jackpot Bonus Game.
The more Wilds you land on a spin, the more chance you have of triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game, however, if you have a spin and do not land a Wild, then you will not have any chance of triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game.
It is worth noting here that the Jackpot Bonus Game does only trigger very very rarely, so even if you land multiple Wilds on a spin, you still are likely not to trigger the game. You need to land at least one Wild and then have a big slice of good fortune in order to trigger a shot at the four progressive jackpot prizes.
Rolling Reels & Multiplier Trail (base game)
The second most common bonus feature you will likely encounter on the Absolootly Mad slot is the Rolling Reels feature and its Multiplier Trail bonus. You can see the Multiplier Trail at the bottom of the reel and in the accompanying video with this slot, you will see how the multiplier moves up the trail, increasing in value, with each successive Rolling Reels win.
Rolling Reels sees symbols drop down into position on the reels from above on each spin and when a winning line is achieved, they pay out the player and then disappear. Any symbols above them on the reels then drop down into new positions on the reels and any spaces on the reels are filled with additional symbols added from above.
This can then trigger additional wins, and these are the Rolling Reels wins and when you string these together, they can move the Multipler Trail value from its initial setting of 1x, to 2x for two Rolling Reels wins, 3x for three and 5x for four or more consecutive Rolling Reels wins.
If a Rolling Reels payout occurs and the new symbols do not land a winner, then the feature ends and the Trail resets back to its initial 1x payout in the base game.
It is not an understatement to say that Rolling Reels is the fundamental feature of the Absolootly Mad slot. It is how players can maintain a balance in the game and make their money play for far more spins as it produces the best value wins for players. It also triggers very frequently and as such is a very accessible bonus, in the same way as the Wild bonus.
However, for bigger value wins, you need to trigger the much rarer Free Spins bonus game on Absolootly Mad, and that comes with a special boost to the Multiplier Trail for the Rolling Reels feature in Free Spins.
Free Spins Bonus & enhanced Multiplier Trail
The most lucrative bonus feature on the Absolootly Mad slot, certainly in terms of potential and in terms of wins averaged out over many sessions on the game, is the Free Spins bonus. While the progressive jackpot prizes are great value, your chances of triggering them are very slim and you have a much greater chance of triggering Free Spins on any typical session.
There is one great feature on the Absolootly Mad slot that really helps players with the Free Spins bonus. Unlike many other slots, the Wild symbol can substitute for the Scatter symbol (which is the door) in the base game.
However, if you land three Wilds, then this won't trigger the Absolootly Mad Free Spins round. You do need to land at least one of the Door Scatter symbols, along with two or more Wilds (or two Door Scatters, plus one Wild) to trigger the Free Spins bonus. Of course, you can trigger the bonus in the traditional way by landing three Scatters across the reels.
Hitting the bonus however is not easy and you will need to exercise patience. As you can see in the play-through of 100 spins on the Absolootly Mad slot in the video that accompanies this article, it takes until very near the end of the 100 spins before I trigger the Free Spins bonus round.
Once you have triggered the Free Spins bonus round you are awarded with eight Free Spins. That doesn't sound like much but you can re-trigger the bonus using your Free Spins to receive eight additional Free Spins each time.
In addition, the Rolling Reels feature is in play in Free Spins too, but the Multiplier Trail values are increased by three times the standard amount, increasing to 3x, 6x, 9x and 15x the standard wins. Obviously, this makes those key Rolling Reels consecutive wins from a single spin even more valuable during the Free Spins bonus.
Those massive multipliers can make this game very lucrative for players, but it should be noted that the Free Spins bonus round can also be very volatile in terms of how much, or little, it pays out. As you can see in the Free Spins we landed in the video, we only landed a return of just over 8x our standard bet and if you check through the spins leading up to that trigger, we actually won more than that on a couple of spins in standard play.
However, the flip side of that is that in addition to lower value wins, you can trigger those massive wins too, especially if you can hit the 15x multiplier on any of your Free Spins.
Part of the reason why the Free Spins part of the slot is so volatile in terms of how much or little it pays out is the fact that you only get eight free spins. When you consider a good proportion of them will be non-winning spins, and a significant number will trigger just one pay out (and no additional Rolling Reels wins), it is easy to see why the pays on this feature can be so variable.
In essence, that is the main bonus features on the Absolootly Mad slot. You can see them all in the video that accompanies the game, although I will point out that I didn't feel this was a particularly productive session and I have had much better sessions on the game (and a couple worse).
As always though, all these features are best experienced when playing the game for yourself, so why not give it a try?
