Absolootly Mad slot: What are Rolling Reels, Paylines & Winning Symbols?

The Absolootly Mad slot from Triple Edge Studios is the most recent addition to the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot network of slot games.

The Alice's Adventures in Wonderland-themed slot has been a big hit since the game was released into casinos back at the start of 2020 and although it has yet to produce a top jackpot prize winner, its popularity is clear.

This article is one of a series of articles that will look at the different aspects of the Absolootly Mad slot, including its most impressive bonus features, how the game can be played using different bet amounts or strategies, the jackpot bonus game and of course, some of the key features of the slot that you may not be fully aware of but which can be accessed from either the main screen or one of the sub menus of the slot.

However, in this article, we are going to focus on arguably the most important feature of the slot for players when it comes to actually playing the base game. These are the different pay lines (or in this case, ways to win) that are available on the slot, the different amounts you can win for the different symbols in the game and of course, how some of the bonus symbols link in with these symbols in the game.

We will also in this section take a more in depth at the Rolling Reels feature on the slot, how that links in with the game in general and how the Multiplier Trails in the game (and Free Spins round) link in and play a key role in increasing the potential size of successive Rolling Reels wins.

So let us begin our trawl through the main features of the slot game by beginning with the Ways to Win system and how it works.

Absolootly Mad is a 243 Ways to Win slot

On a standard slot game, there are usually a stated number of pay lines across the reels. These are selected patterns on the reels which if you can match the same symbols to the patterns shown in the pay lines, you will trigger a win. Pay lines originally began with just a simple line across the middle of the reels but as slots have grown more complex, more pay lines have been incorporated into games using an ever-increasing number of patterns.

Inevitably, we were moving towards a game where almost every possible combination of symbols across a five-reel slot would be covered in the game and when Microgaming did indeed produce the first 243 Ways to Win slot, it was something of a landmark moment in the slots industry.

A 243 Ways to Win slot essentially means that regardless of what pattern your symbols make, if they are connected from left to right across the screen, usually of three or more symbols in succession, then you will be guaranteed a win.

Of course, this is great news for players as it means any three combinations of symbols from left to right across the reels will trigger a win.

Absolootly Mad is the first Mega Moolah game since the now defunct The Dark Knight slot to offer this feature and a shot at the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize. Not only that though, but in addition to the 243 Ways to Win, the game also offers a feature which is also becoming increasingly popular to use in conjunction with this slot. The Rolling Reels and associated Multiplier Trail feature.

How does Rolling Reels fit in with the Absolootly Mad slot?

The first thing to note is that Rolling Reels is a feature that does have many different names on different slots. It can be called Rolling Reels, Falling Reels, Cascading Reels or even Avalanche Reels but essentially they all refer to the same function.

A Rolling Reels slot will see symbols drop down from above into position on the reels. If a win is triggered, then the symbols that are a part of that win will flash and disappear, any symbols on the reels above them will then drop down to fill in the gap that removing these winning symbols has created.

This will then leave spaces on the reels at the top of the reels and then what happens is fresh symbols from above then drop into these spaces. Hence the reels kind of ‘roll' around when you land wins, giving the feature its name.

The new position of existing symbols on the reels as well as new symbols dropping into positions on the reels from above, can generate additional wins and these are called Rolling Reels wins and in the Absolootly Mad slot, there is a special feature linked to this called the Multiplier Trail.

For each Rolling Reel win that you trigger, the Multiplier Trail will increase. In the base game, this increase starts at 1x for the first win and then moves to 2x, 3x and then 5x for a third (or greater) Rolling Reels win. During Free Spins, these values are 3x the standard amount. (so 3x, 6, 9x and 15x the standard win size).

Therefore, stringing together these Rolling Reels wins is a fundamental part of the Absolootly Mad slot and is one of the best ways you can land some of the better value wins in the base game. Obviously, the more wins you can string together in the Rolling Reels feature, then the better potential value of those wins will be.

Rolling Reels and Multiplier Trails are an integral part of the Absolootly Mad slot in terms of the base game and of winning yourself cash. Neither plays a role in deciding whether the Jackpot Bonus Game is triggered (which is governed by an entirely different random number generator) but in terms of your day to day play on the slot, they are fundamental to ensuring that your deposit and bonus go as long a way as possible when playing the game.

Without doubt, one of the best features of Rolling Reels is the frequency with which it is triggered, especially when compared to more traditional bonuses such as Free Spins, or Pick'em games. It is this, combined with the potential rewards on offer which makes Absolootly Mad a less volatile slot than many would initially expect.

Now that we understand more about the 243 Ways to Win, the Rolling Reels feature and the Multiplier Trail bonuses, let us now learn a little more about the different symbols on the reels which play a key role in triggering these features and wins.

Absolootly Mad Symbols and Payouts

There are a total of just 12 symbols on the reels on the Mega Moolah slot. Two of these are symbols that trigger one of the feature bonuses on the slot, the Wild symbol (which is the Gold Coin with the Mad Hatter's hat on) and the Scatter symbol (which is the door symbol). We will look at these symbols a little more in an article on the main features of the slot.

The 10 standard symbols include a mix of lower and high value symbols. We have outlined the symbols in the table below and shown you the win amounts for the minimum bet on the slot, the maximum bet and what the effective multiplier is for each of these symbols.

Wins the same as or above the bet amount are highlighted in Bold. Those below the bet amount are in standard text.

As you can see from this table, standard wins that pay out on three symbols are not particularly profitable for players. Additionally, the win amounts per line may seem small, at just 10x for five of the top value Mad Hatter symbols across the reel. However, to combat this, the symbols on the reels can be stacked and you can of course win that amount across multiple ways to win, which drastically increases the size of an overall win when this occurs.

Furthermore, any win also triggers the Rolling Reels bonus, which can then lead on to additional cash boosting wins when this triggers additional wins in conjunction with the Multiplier Trail. You also have the Wild symbol on the middle three reels which can help you land some valuable wins across multiple pay lines too.

So that is essentially the key set up of the Absolootly Mad Mega Moolah slot game. Do check out our video review of the game that accompanies this slot for more details about the game and how it works.
