When Microgaming first announced that their Wowpot progressive jackpot prize was going to get a complete overhaul, few were expecting to hear that the new top jackpot prize would be £2,000,000.

That is because on September 1, the new Book of Atem Wowpot slot hit casinos on general release. A reworked version of the original Book of Atem slot released a few months prior by All41 Studios, this new game now incorporates the fantastic Wowpot progressive jackpot prizes as part of the game.

Game parameters

The new Book of Atem Wowpot slot is very similar to the original release, with the addition of the progressive jackpot feature and its triggers, built into the fabric of the original game. We have a 5x3 reel slot that has 10 pay lines in play, although it is not a win both ways game. The volatility of the slot is high, so it is a game that tends to have fewer wins, but if you do manage to land a win, particularly through one of the bonus features, it does have the potential to be a higher amount than usual.

Spins start at a relatively low price of 0.10 per spin but you can increase that up to 25.00 per spin if you prefer. The standard (non progressive) base game jackpot prize of 500x your total bet, but in the Free Spins bonus round that increases up to 5,000x your bet.

The theme of the slot is ancient Egypt and the backdrop, music and sounds all enhance the ambiance of the slot while the high value symbols on the reels are linked in nicely with the theme.

As a progressive jackpot slot, the game is the second to be linked to the Wowpot progressive jackpot, which features four progressive jackpot prizes, Mini, Minor, Major and Wowpot. The Wild Scatter also serves three other purposes in the game. In addition to paying out when landed three or more times across the reels, it also serves as the Scatter symbol to trigger Free Spins (when three or more are landed on the reels), it can also substitute for other symbols to help you land additional wins with those symbols and it also contributes one token to the Jackpot Bonus Chest underneath the progressive jackpot totals.

The more of these Wild tokens you can collect on your base game spins, the more chance you have of triggering the Jackpot Bonus game, which can occur at random if you land a Wild Scatter symbol on the reels in the base game.

Free Spins Bonus Round

The Book of Atem Free Spins bonus round is the key to many of the bigger value wins in the base game and it is accessed when you land three or more of the Scatter Wild symbols anywhere across the reels on any base game spin. When you do, not only will you land a payout as detailed above, but you will also trigger 10 Free Spins.

At the start of the Free Spins bonus round, a symbol will be selected from those on the reels. This will be the Expanding Symbol for the Free Spins bonus and every time you land one of these symbols on the reels during Free Spins, it will expand to cover the reel it is on in full. If you can land Expanding Symbols across all five reels then that is how some of the bigger payouts on the Book of Atem Wowpot slot can be won without triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game.

Book of Atem Wowpot Jackpot Bonus Game

The Jackpot Bonus Game is triggered at random in the base game on a spin where you land a Scatter Wild on the reels. Each time you land one of these symbols, it adds a token to the treasure chest underneath the jackpot totals on the left-hand side of the reels. The more Wilds you land then the more chances you have of triggering the Jackpot Bonus Game.

If you do manage to trigger the bonus then you are taken to a new screen and on it is the Book of Atem Jackpot Wheel. This is a wheel divided into different sectors each of which is one of four colours. The Blue sectors will see you win the Mini jackpot prize, the Green will see you win the Minor jackpot, the Red will see you land the Major jackpot prize while the Gold Sector will see you land the massive Wowpot Jackpot prize.

It should be noted here that the wheel is only the method the game chooses to display the outcome of the Random Number Generator outcome that decides which of the four jackpot prizes you win, the sector sizes are not indicative of your actual chances of winning each of the four jackpot prizes.

So far, while nobody has at the time of writing won the top Wowpot progressive jackpot prize, we have had several winners of the Major jackpot prize over the last few months with prizes averaging between 50,000 and 300,000 in size in general.
