Diamond Inferno slot: Play for a sizeable jackpot!
It is fair to say that the new Diamond Inferno slot by Triple Edge Studios and released by Microgaming, is one of the more eagerly awaited slot releases of the summer so far.
Part of that is down to the unusual set up of the game, which sees reels expanding as you land wins, and pay lines increasing as a result, but also the 11,750x jackpot prize is something else that has got players very excited.
Now we all know it takes great pressure to create diamonds, which is why they can only be forged deep underground where the heat and pressure is such that these beautiful gemstones can be created, geological processes then transport them towards the surface where, if you are lucky enough, you can mine them and make a mint.
So the question is whether the diamonds are going to shine on you when playing the Diamond Inferno slot, or whether the heat will evaporate your hopes of landing a big win? There's only one way to find out about that and that is to put the game to the test, so that is precisely what we did.

Presentation
I have to say that the presentation of the Diamond Inferno slot is striking. The backdrop of flames with the hottest part of the fire flickering away at the foot of the reels, is incredibly realistic. The reels sit in the middle of the screen superimposed on top of the flames and with information about the slot displayed on either side. The main control bar, as always is located underneath the reels.
What you will notice about the reels is that only the reels in play are highlighted and these are the ones, initially, at the foot of the reels. As you land a win and the number of symbols on each reel increases, these too will become highlighted as the bar moves up the reels to include more symbols and ten more pay lines with each consecutive win, taking it from 20 pay lines up to 50 pay lines.
At the top of the reels are four multipliers, which we will explore in more detail a little later in the review, Add to this heady mix a rather nice atmospheric guitar track playing and some great sound effects and you have a slot game that is truly eye-catching.

What is on the reels?
There are eleven symbols in total on the reels, nine of which are standard symbols with the others being linked to the main features of the slot. The lower value symbols are the four playing card symbols, the jack through to the ace and these offer wins ranging from a quarter of your total bet up to 1.75x your total bet.
Higher value symbols include the dice, the dollar symbol, two gold bar symbols, the lucky 7 and the star symbol and wins on these range from 0.35x your bet, to 100x your bet for five of the star symbols on a pay line. This is by far the largest standard win amount on a pay line in the slot, offering much more than the next highest win, which is 6x your bet for five of the 7 symbols across the reels.
The other two symbols on the reels are the Wild and Scatter symbols and we will explore how these are linked in with the slot in the sections below.
Wild features
The Wild symbol is nice and easy to spot as it is simply the word Wild with flames coming from it. It is only found on the middle three reels and it can substitute for any of the standard symbols outlined above to help create additional wins on the reels. However, it cannot be used as a substitute for a Scatter symbol.
Wilds can be stacked high enough to fill a complete reel and of course, when you land Wilds like this, especially on multiple reels, then you can land some of the better value wins in the base game more easily, which then triggers the Respin bonus feature, which we will look at in more detail below.
Free Spins features
Rather than a dedicated Free Spins bonus round, the Diamond Inferno slot takes a different approach to its bonus. Every time you land a win, you will see the number of symbols on each reel increase by one, the number of pay lines on the new reelset increase by 10 and you then get one free respin of this new reelset.
If you land a winner, then you increase the number of symbols on the reels once again and the number of pay lines increases by ten once again. You can this up to three times to land the full reel set of 5 x 6 reels, with 50 pay lines.
However, if you then trigger additional wins on your Free Respins, you then kick into the Multiplier Bonuses at the top of the reels. For each successive trigger you land after activating all the symbols on the reels, the size of the multiplier will increase, starting at 2x and then moving to 3x, 5x and finally to 10x the standard amount.
It is when you start to activate these multipliers that some of the very high cash prizes in the Diamond Inferno game can be won, but of course you do need to land a high number of successive wins from a single winning standard spin in order to trigger all these bonuses.
You may wonder what the Scatter symbol does if it is not involved in the Free Respin bonuses. The answer to that is that each time you land three Scatters across the three middle reels on a single spin, then you will trigger the Scatter Pays bonus.
Here, the row that you land the Scatter on will determine how much that Scatter pay out will be. Each Scatter will pay out for the three you land and pays start at 1x your bet if you land on the first row the reels, up to 20x your bet if you land on the sixth.
Best feature of the Diamond Inferno slot
There are a lot of features to like on the Diamond Inferno slot. The game looks excellent and sounds excellent and Triple Edge Studios have really managed to capture the essence of this slot very nicely. The expanding reels with the Free Respins and eventually the multipliers are definitely the best aspect of the slot. It is a tricky bonus to land a sizeable amount on, hence the more medium variance nature of the slot, but the potential is there for some big wins and those Free Respins trigger often enough for you not to miss a dedicated Free Spins bonus. I would have liked to see something a bit more exciting for the Scatter Pays part of the slot, but that one gripe apart, I think this is a fantastically enjoyable and innovative game.
Conclusion
Once again Triple Edge Studios have produced another top-quality game for Microgaming and it is clear to see why the Isle of Man-based slots giants rate this particular studio so highly and have entrusted them with a number of high profile games. Diamond Inferno is an unusual slot in many respects, but it is one that is easy to pick up and play and which offers some very attractive bonus features. This is well worth a closer look, especially if you like slot games that differ from the norm.
