Feel the 6-reel power of the Wild Energy slot from Booming Games
One of the nice things about being at a casino that offers Microgaming slots is that through their agreements with other companies, you get to experience a number of games from other companies.
One such game is the new Wild Energy slot, which was released in February 2020 by the Booming Games development company.
This six reel (expanding to seven for Re-Spin mode) offers slightly unusual game-play compared to most other slots, and it also comes with a raft of Wild-themed bonus features. Despite all this, it is a genuine lower variance slot, which makes it an ideal choice for fans of this particular type of game.
So does Wild Energy have you bubbling over with vigour, or is this a slot that will leave you a little lethargic at the end of a session? We decided to take a closer look to find out.

Presentation
The Wild Energy slot is presented in a rather unusual format in that the backdrop of the slot seems to be some kind of electrical installation, akin to what you would find at a power station or on an electricity pylon. That kind of fits in with the 'energy' theme of the slot very nicely and against this backdrop, set against a sunset sky, are the six reels. There are four symbols on each reel and there are 25 pay lines in play during base game.
Playing in the backdrop is a rather pleasant electrical-inspired tune and there are other electrifying sound effects that kick in when you land a win. The electricity between the symbols to show you the winning pay line in particular is a nice touch.
Overall, the presentation of this slot is rather safe but there are more impressive moments, though nothing that is going to blow you away compared to other games.
What is on the reels?
There are a number of different symbols on the reels starting with the nine standard symbols. Five of these are what is called 'minor symbols' in the game and these are the five playing card symbols from the 10 through to the ace. These offer wins ranging from 1/5 of your total bet up to 21.6x your bet, although in the base game that is reduced down to 10.8x your bet, for reasons we will explain later.
The five 'major' symbols on the reel are all familiar symbols to those that enjoy retro slots and include a bell, a bar symbol, a lucky 7 and a diamond. Base game wins range from 0.8x your bet up to 36x your bet.
There are number of other major feature symbols on the reels and these are the different Wild symbols and the Re-Spin symbol and we will explore both types in more detail below.
Wild features
The lightning bolt is the Wild symbol and it can substitute for all other symbols in the game apart from the Re-Spin symbol. In addition to being used as a substitute to create more wins, you can also land a big Wild win, but only during the Re-Spin mode, of 200x your bet.
Re-Spin mode is activated by landing the Re-Spin Wild on the Second and also the Fifth reel on any single spin. When triggered, you will have three of the reels (first, fourth and seventh) turn completely Wild for your Re-Spin and then the remaining reels are spun again. Furthermore, an extra reel is added to the six already on screen and you gain access to all the much higher 7-symbol wins in the game. This is where some of the biggest prizes can be won in the Wild Energy slot. Land a +1 symbol on the 6th reel during a re-spin and you will earn yourself another re-spin.
In addition to this, you can also trigger Random Wild Reels in the base game, which will turn any of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th reels wild. You can land one or two Random Wild Reels in this bonus, which is triggered randomly on any spin.
Another Wild feature is the Bursting Wilds bonus which occurs when the symbol lands on the third or fourth reel. When triggered, one of the Wilds will burst spreading onto one or two adjacent reels and converting them also to Wild reels.
Finally, there is also a Random Wilds feature, which will see up to six Wilds placed in random positions around the board while the reels are spinning and this could trigger you a sizeable win.
Free Spins features
There is no Free Spins bonus feature on the Wild Energy slot, only the Re-Spins bonus feature that we have outlined above.
Best feature of the Wild Energy slot
There's no doubt that with lower variance fans in mind, the Wild Energy slot offers decent gaming for this particular type of slot player. The absence of a genuine Free Spins bonus round is a bit of a disappointment to be brutally honest, but the sheer number and variation of all the different Wild bonus features does make up for that. My favourite of the bonuses is the Re-Spin bonus as this is the best way to win a bigger cash prize on the slot, although you do need to be patient as triggering this bonus can be difficult and can often take a fair bit of time. Even so, the lower variance of the game means that while you wait, it should not be massively expensive for you as you play through the spins.
Conclusion
There are some interesting features in the Wild Energy slot from Booming Games. I like the fact that we have seen the release of a new and innovative lower variance slot, at a time when a lot of companies are focusing their energies on higher variance games. This slot does have some nice touches, especially all those Wild-themed bonuses, however I feel that the Re-Spin bonus is perhaps a tad too difficult to access and the chances of landing a big win on the bonus is too small to ever make it feel like a realistic prospect. Despite that, Wild Energy does offer great fun low variance slot gaming, if that is your thing.
You can play the Wild Energy slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.
