Have you tried the latest slots from Microgaming?
Regular players in the online gambling world are very familiar with the Microgaming brand. Located on the Isle of Man, Microgaming is one of the foremost names in video slots and high-tech table games. Their titles include what is arguably the most popular jackpot slot online: Mega Moolah.
Like any good game developer, Microgaming does not rest on its laurels; it does not live in the past. Rather, the company continues forging ahead with new titles designed to reach out to an ever-expanding audience. A bunch of new titles just released in March (2020) clearly show that the company is not looking back. How many of them have you tried so far?
This post will go on to review some of the new games released by Microgaming in March. You should know that not all of their games are developed in-house. Microgaming has cleverly signed up with a network of independent studios and content partners. In other words, Microgaming works with independent studios and developers to create new game titles. That's good because it gives smaller operations and talented artists an opportunity to develop their work for the masses. That is exactly what they have done, too.
Attack on Retro slot
The first game in the March 2020 lineup is a video slot known as Attack on Retro. This rather interesting game is the product of Triple Edge Studios, the makers of a number of great titles including Book of Oz and Zeus Ancient Fortunes. This particular game follows two futuristic cyberpunks named Billy and Jesse as they fight against robots attacking the city they call home.
The reference to 'retro' in this game refers back to 1980s pop culture in America. However, the game's designers have set the story line in the future. How far in the future we don't know, but it's far enough that their interpretations of the 1980s are being filtered through what their interpretations of the future might look like.
Theming aside, Attack on Retro offers everything you would expect from a Microgaming video slot. It is a 5-reel, 10-payline slot game with plenty of bright colors and other video elements to amaze your eyes. A high-energy soundtrack captures the mood of the story line and keeps players engaged.
Line wins are pretty standard: you have to land three or more like symbols on a single pay line beginning at the left position. The game does offer one feature you might not be familiar with. It is called Hyperspins. This is a feature that allows you to spin any one of the five reels following a standard spin. The goal is to improve a winning combo or land a much-needed Scatter. However, the spins are not free.
There are a lot of good things to like about this game. For example, the winning potential is 5,000x your bet. The game is easy to play and easy to follow. The only thing is this: if you weren't at least a teenager in the 1980s, you might miss many of its cultural references.
9 Pots of Gold slot
The title of this new game from Gameburger Studios pretty much gives away its Irish theme. This is yet another game that seeks to entertain players with leprechauns, rainbows, pots of gold, etc. However, do not let that scare you away. Theming is only one portion of the video slot experience.
The 9 Pots of Gold slot was released just ahead of St. Patrick's Day to take advantage of its Irish theme. As you might expect, bright green is the dominant color throughout. You will also be treated to plenty of Irish icons including four-leaf clovers and gold harps. It is all in a day's work for your lucky leprechaun in search of his pot of gold.
This leprechaun is a little bit different though. He is a bit more modern with his hip green sunglasses and appropriately placed earring. It's no surprise that he's after as much bling as he can get his hands on. In terms of game play, 9 Pots of Gold is pretty standard fare. You get 20 pay lines on a 5 x 3 reel set up and bets ranging from 0.20 to 60.
The game's Pot Pays feature is a bonus game triggered by landing three or more scatter symbols. The more scatter symbols you land, the bigger your Pot Pays prize. The minimum win is equal to your wager; the maximum is 2,000 times your wager.
Lastly, 9 Pots of Gold offers a free spins bonus that features an extra spinning wheel to determine your number of free spins and multiplier. The best you can do is 30 free spins with a 3X multiplier.
Classic Blackjack: Six Deck
Although many of the new titles coming out from Microgaming these days are video slots, table games have not been forgotten. Let us introduce you to Classic Blackjack: Six Deck from Switch Studios. The game launched in Spain in early March. It represents the seventh blackjack game from Switch Studios.
If you are familiar with blackjack, you will feel right at home with this one. All of the rules and betting options you are already familiar with are in play. For example, you will be able to double down, split your hand, buy insurance against a dealer blackjack, and so forth.
So what makes this game so different? A brand-new engine that makes for better sounds, increased animations, and more fluid game-play. Switch Studios continues to pursue the high bar of realism, and this game shows their commitment.
Treasure Skyland slot
We are back to video slots and the 20-payline Treasure Skyland game from Just for the Win. This whimsical little game pokes fun (we are not sure if it is intentional) at the whole pirate genre by focusing on three pirate monkeys who live in the clouds. The game's heroes are in search of treasure, of course, but not your typical gold and silver. They are after bananas.
What makes Treasure Skyland so entertaining are the many features that come at you fast and furious. For example, one of its features is known as The Helm. It can only appear on reels 2-4. When it does, and is part of a winning pay line, The Helm opens up the Feature Reel to award you one of four different prizes. They include multipliers and automatic wild symbols.
The bonus game here is a picking game. It can only be triggered by the Feature Reel. Once triggered you are presented with 15 floating islands from which you can pick 5. Each pick reveals a prize equal to a multiplier applied to your wager. Somewhere in the islands is a prize map with steps. Your goal is to keep finding that prize map with every group of picks, to eventually win 1,000X your wager.
Treasure Skyland is one of those games that reminds us to not take online gambling so seriously. It is a reminder to approach gambling as an entertainment choice rather than a way to make money. It is not that you cannot win here, it's just that those adorable monkey pirates want you to smile and relax while you play.
Other titles out in March
The four Microgaming titles reviewed in this post are just the start. Microgaming's press release lists no fewer than 12 additional games scheduled for release during the month of March. And of course, we are now in April. There could be a whole slew of additional titles coming then as well.
If none of these four intrigues you, you might want to check out Treasure Heroes and Mining Fever from Rabcat. Both are video slots from the same company that brought us Nikola Tesla's Incredible Machine, Sherlock of London, Classic 243, and others.
Treasure Heroes is a medium volatility game themed around a fantasy world. It offers plenty of action driven by a 5 x 5 reel set up and cluster wins. Its artwork and soundtrack are worthy of notice even if you were to take slot play out of the equation.
Mining Fever is just as its name implies: a game themed around a band of fearless dwarfs who live to go deep into the earth in search of untold riches. They will even go as far as to battle a mighty dragon to get what they want.
The claim to fame in Mining Fever is its 243 winning ways. There are also plenty of bonus features linked to the mystical powers of the dwarfs. That is all we can say here. You will have to play the game to learn more about it. But no worries; mining Fever is well worth your while checking out.
Something for everyone
March 2020 will eventually be looked back on as a particularly good month for Microgaming game releases. There are so many great titles to choose from that we are comfortable saying there is something for everyone. Microgaming certainly has done a wonderful job working with their partner studios and content developers to bring some great new titles to market.
As we press on, we want to encourage you to enjoy the online gambling experience and do everything you can to stay safe. Meanwhile, expect Microgaming to keep working on even better games for the future.
