Immortal Romance slot revamped and rereleased by Microgaming
Released back in 2011, the original Immortal Romance slot was one of Microgaming's finest hours and since then, it has proven to be one of the most popular games produced by the company.
Based on the mechanics of the classic Thunderstruck II slot, the tale of love between vampires and mortals struck a chord at a time when the Twilight series of books and films were particularly prevalent.
It seems strange to think that the game is almost 10 years old, but it has not been simply left to fend for itself. Back in 2017, Microgaming redeveloped the game using HTML5 to allow it to be used across mobile devices of all kinds, which brought the game to an increasing and expanded audience. Now, a few years later, the popular slot has had something of a facelift. A re-vamp if you will.
This new and improved slot has now been released after it hit Casino Rewards casinos last week, so what exactly has changed on the slot in this newer version? We decided to take a look to find out.
What have Microgaming done to the Immortal Romance slot?
The good news for fans of the original Immortal Romance slot is that Microgaming have learned that when a game is so perfectly balanced and has a massive following, the last thing you want to do is start playing around with the game mechanics. As such, the main changes that have been made to the Immortal Romance slot are purely cosmetic.
Microgaming's main task for this update have been a remastering of the animations, sounds and graphics of the slot as, to be honest, the original slot had started to look a little out of date when compared to the more modern games that we have seen released of late.
It is fair to say that they have done a very good job on that. The new graphics and animations are clearer, crisper and smoother and they give the game a more story line feel, which is part of the appeal of the Immortal Romance slot. The animations you can trigger when you land some of the better value wins in the game, such as when you land five of one of the main character symbols across the reels, are also very nicely done.
The sound has also been impressively updated and is clearer and captures the different moods of the game very nicely. What is nice is that Microgaming have still manage to incorporate the nice mix of love and fairy tale romance, with the darker and more unsettling vampire legend and it is the juxtaposition of these two contrasting themes which make Immortal Romance so appealing to many.
What has stayed the same on Immortal Romance?
The good news for fans of the original is while they can benefit from enhance graphics, sounds and animations, that same playability and the features that made the original Immortal Romance such a great success are still fully in evidence in the reworked game.
That means that there are still five reels, with three symbols on each and 243 ways to win across the reels. There are still the same symbol types, albeit updated, from the original and the same four characters, Amber, Troy, Michael and Sarah are still the highest value standard symbols in the game.
You also have the Wild symbol which offers a 2x multiplier on any win that it is a part of, and which can be responsible for some of the better value wins in the base game. You can also win up to 12,000x your bet (a massive 3,645,000 coins) and it is this huge jackpot amount, which attracted so many players to give the Immortal Romance slot a try when it was first released.
Bets range from 0.30 up to 30.00 per spin and there is a fantastic randomly triggered base game bonus that can see up to five reels turn completely Wild to give you a chance of some massive base game payouts.
However, it is the Free Spins bonus game, or as it is known in Immortal Romance, the Chamber of Spins bonus rounds that really make this game so exciting.
The updated version of the game still has the four bonus spins rounds and you still have to work your way through each one, unlocking them as you go. Once you have triggered the Free Spins round enough times, you can then select which of the four different Free Spins bonus games you would like to play, but up until that point, you have to work your way through the bonus rounds.
- Amber Bonus - The first bonus in the game is the one you will trigger when you first trigger Free Spins. Here you receive 10 Free Spins and for every win you land during the bonus, you will receive a sizeable 5x multiplier on those wins.
- Troy Bonus - The second bonus you will activate once you have triggered Free Spins enough times is the Troy Bonus. Here you have the Vampire Bats feature in play on your 15 Free Spins, with the bats landing on the reels and awarding multipliers of 2x or 3x, but if you can land two bats on a winning line this will give you a 6x multiplier. This triggers from the fifth occasion you trigger Free Spins on wards.
- Michael Bonus - After 10 triggers of the Free Spins round you get to play the Michael Bonus which comprises of 20 Free Spins, with the Rolling Reels feature in play and a Multiplier Trail offering wins of between 2x to 5x the standard amount on consecutive Rolling Reels wins.
- Sarah Bonus - Once you have triggered Free Spins 15 times or more, you can now play the Sarah Bonus game. Here you get the Wild Vine feature in addition to 25 Free Spins. The vine symbol appears on the third reel only but when it does it can change symbols into Wilds on other reels. You can also pick up extra spins by landing 2,3, 4 or 5 Scatters on the reels, offering you an extra 3 or 4 Free Spins.
Microgaming have gone back and reworked a couple of games with new graphics and sounds in recent times and it is nice to see that one of their true classics has been given the same treatment, bringing the Immortal Romance slot kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
