Is the Bookie Of Odds slot's Re-Spin feature a sure winner?

Bookie of Odds slot review

It's been a busy couple of days for Microgaming as we have seen the company release two additional slots, both created by the companies that the Isle of Man-based company has signed development deals with. Bookie of Odds is another offering from Triple Edge Studios and as you can guess from the name, it is themed on horse racing.

It is a 5-reel slot which has 10 non-selectable pay lines in play and a re-spin feature. Spins start at just 0.10 per spin but can be increased up to 25.00 per spin. Wins for three symbols (or 2 symbols for the higher value symbols) are around half your bet, so you need to land four symbol wins to really start piling up the profit.

With a jaunty soundtrack and a more retro feel, is The Bookie of Odds slot going to be one that will have you betting on landing some success on it with a few spins over the coming months? We decided to take a closer look and find out.

The presentation of the Bookie of Odds slot is perhaps a little basic compared to some modern day slots, but it does fit in nicely with the theme of the slot, which is horse racing and betting and that is a sport that still keeps to many of its traditions. The music is very jaunty and sounds like you have a brass band sat in your computer playing tunes as you make your bets.

Graphically, the slot is rather simple with a backdrop of a racecourse and stands against a blue sky. The five reels are in the middle of the screen with the main controls at the foot of the reels. The game boasts a re-spin feature on every spin, which will, for a stated cost, allow you to re-spin one of the reels again, holding the other in place, if you would like to take the opportunity. The price for these re-spins range from being very low, to considerably higher than your standard bet should you stand a chance of a higher value win or triggering the Free Spins bonus round.

The re-spin options appear at the foot of each reel after every spin. You can re-spin as many times as you like provided you are willing to meet the cost stated of the re-spin option.

What is on the reels?

There are just ten symbols on the reels in the Bookie of Odds slot. Five of these are the lower value symbols and these are the 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. These offer wins ranging from half your standard bet up to 15x your standard bet. Most wins tend to be the smaller amount though and it is worth noting that these wins still represent a 50% loss on the bet.

The higher value symbols are the three different racehorses, coloured, blue, purple and red for ease of identification, and lastly the bookmaker. Each of these symbols pays a smaller value win for just 2 symbols on the reels, which is a nice boost, and there are bigger value wins for three or more symbols across the reel, including a win of 500x your total stake should you land five bookmakers across the reels.

There is only one other symbol on the reel and that is the gold bookmakers ledger, this serves two purposes in the game as it acts as both the Scatter symbol and also as the in game Wild symbol.

Wild features

As we have mentioned above, the gold bookies ledger is the Wild symbol in the game and while it does not offer any pays of its own, it can be used to substitute for any of the higher or lower value standard symbols to help create additional wins.

Of course, as a Wild Scatter, it can be landed anywhere across the reels in any number and if you can land more than a single Wild on as spin, then your chances of landing a win increase markedly.

If you land three or more of the Wild Scatters then you trigger the special Free Spins bonus game.

Free Spins features

Three or more of the Scatter Wilds landed anywhere across the reels triggers the Free Spins bonus game. The number of Free Spins you receive depends on the number of Scatters landed on the reels, three will see you earn 10 Free Spins, four sees you earn 12 Free Spins but hit the maximum Five Scatters and not only do you win a cash prize of 200x your bet (5,000 coins), but you will also receive the maximum number of Free Spins, 25.

At the start of Free Spins, one of symbols on the reels is selected as being the Special Symbol for your bonus game. This special symbol will expand when it is landed on the reels and can be used as part of a win. The symbol will expand to cover the entire reel and obviously, if you can land multiple of these symbols across the reels, then this can trigger a sizeable win of of up to 5,000x your total bet, which is the largest jackpot prize in the game.

One final positive is that if you hit three or more Wild Scatters during Free Spins, then you can re-trigger the bonus from within the game, which is always a nice addition to have on any bonus round.

Best feature of the Bookie of Odds slot

The Free Spins bonus feature of the Bookie of Odds slot is where the biggest value wins can be found and although this bonus does tend to be a little hit and miss at times, it is the point of the game. However, I found the re-spin option to be the best feature of the slot as it gives players a lot more flexibility over their spins and they can choose, or not, to try and chase a big win that they may have just missed out on. It is a feature which needs to be used at the right time though as it can be very expensive to use the re-spin option on those reels that are the one you need to land a higher value win and you can quickly wipe out your bankroll for the session if you get a little too trigger happy with the feature.

Bookie of Odds is certainly a decent game for fans of horse racing and slots to enjoy. It has a rather quaint, older style feel to the game that is in keeping with the traditions of the sport and the music is rather jaunty and puts a smile on your face. The slot itself is basic, but the re-spin feature does give it added depth, however this sure winner should be used sparingly and not in place of standard spins. The Free Spins bonus offers some good value and the fact that four symbol or more wins pay considerably higher than your standard bet make them the wins to target rather than 2 or 3 symbol wins.
