Is the latest Mega Moolah jackpot winner from Canada again?
The 2nd big Mega Moolah Mega jackpot win of 2018 has been won, with one lucky player triggering a 7,453,168 jackpot win in their local currency. It is the second time this year that the jackpot has been won following another win of CA$3.6 million on January 14th.
Details on the winner are still very sketchy to the point of being non-existent for the time being, but fortunately at MegaMoolah.com we don't let such trivial details deter us when bringing you the latest news on the next big winner and besides, we've managed to do some detective work ourselves and we reckon that this second winner of the year may also hail from Canada too.
Why do we think that? Well we know that the winner was not from the United Kingdom because if they had been they would have won the full £7.453,168 prize and the Mega Moolah jackpot would have reset to its seed amount of £1,000,000.
However, following the victory, the jackpot reset itself to £3,306,145 and that means that whoever won the jackpot, earned a prize in their local currency of the equivalent of £4,147,022. It just so happens that if you convert that into Canadian dollars, then you get a sum of around CA$7.45 million. Coincidence? You be the judge.
Maple Leaf luck
If the winner is confirmed as living in Canada then that would be another big win for the snowy North American land. Indeed, this would mean that three of the last four Mega Moolah Progressive Jackpot winners have all hailed from Canada and that between them, they have taken home an incredible CA$12.4 million in total prize money.
They would also become the fifth winner of the top prize from Canada following two other winners who won their prizes prior to the three wins mentioned above. One lucky player landed the biggest ever Canadian jackpot win of CA $11.6 million back in November 2016 and before that in April 2015, the first ever Canadian winner of the top prize pocketed a CA$7.5 million win.
This makes our latest winner the third biggest jackpot winner to hail from Canada.
So, what could be the reason behind the recent spate of winners from Canada? Is it just down to pure luck that the last three winners have come from the country? Or are more and more Canadian players trying their hand at the game, given the success that other players have enjoyed?
In truth, the reason for so many Canadian winners is likely to be due to both of those factors. Success breeds popularity and if Canadian players are on a hot streak winning the Mega Moolah jackpot, then that is certainly going to encourage more Canadian players to play. That means more Canadian players having more spins and at the moment, the luck you need to land that massive progressive prize is also going their way too.
It is also worth noting too that as a multi-lingual society, particularly in and around Quebec where the local population are as likely to speak French as well as English, the fact that Microgaming offers French language support in many of its casinos will also appeal to these players, as well as those who have English as their first language. One of these French language supporting casinos is the Grand Mondial Casino where new players can claim a 150 Chances on the Mega Moolah for just a CA$10 deposit.
Unusual runs of success on Mega Moolah
However it is not unusual for the Mega Moolah jackpot to be won by one currency several times in succession, or a high proportion of times over a stated period. Canadian winners may have accounted for three of the last four Mega Moolah jackpot wins, but back in 2017, many earned their prize in Euros.
Now the Euro is a currency that is used by several countries part of the European Union, so the likelihood is that the winners of these prizes heralded from different countries across Europe, but even so, the run of 10 Mega Moolah Jackpot prizes paid out in Euros in succession is a record.
Then back in 2013 into 2014, there was a period of time when three of the four jackpots that were won were claimed by US dollar players. One winning in December 2013, another in June 2014 and the final one winning in November 2014, ironically just before the first Canadian winner of the prize in April 2015.
Indeed, over the years, US dollar players have three times won the Mega Moolah Progressive Jackpot two times in a row (Oct 2009 and Aug 2010, March 2012 and April 2012 and finally December 2013 and June 2014).

- Euro - 19 confirmed wins
- US Dollar - 8 confirmed wins

Mega Moolah's February Curse Broken!
Although it is the shortest month of the year so there are fewer chances for the jackpot to be sprung, this last Mega Moolah Progressive Jackpot win is the first time that the jackpot has been won during the month of February since 2013. Indeed, it is only the second time ever that the jackpot has been claimed during the shortest month of the year.
Indeed, when you compare the number of winners in each month of the Mega Moolah top prize since the slot began back in 2006, then you discover that the early months of the year tend to be the quieter times for jackpot wins:
- January - 2 wins
- February - 2 wins
- March - 2 wins
- April - 3 wins
- May - 3 wins
- June - 3 wins
- July - 2 wins
- August - 4 wins
- September - 2 wins
- October - 4 wins
- November - 6 wins
- December - 5 wins
Will the next big Mega Moolah winner hail from Canada once again? Will they play via mobile or desktop and which month will the jackpot next fall? Will it be March 2018 for the 13th month in succession that the jackpot has been won? All we know is that to be in with a chance of winning it, you need to get the Mega Moolah reels spinning yourself.
