Lucky Twins Jackpot slot offers three big jackpot prizes!

If the name Lucky Twins strikes a chord with you, then you will perhaps not be surprised to hear that Microgaming released a 5x3 reel slot under the same name a little while back. That version of the game had nine pay lines in play.

Essentially, what Microgaming have done here is take that 5-reel game and create from that a 3-reel version of the slot, albeit still offering some sizeable prizes if you can hit one of the three jackpot prizes that are available as part of the game.

This isn't the first time Microgaming have given an older game something of a makeover. They did the same with the Boom Pirates slot, which was re-released back in October 2019 after a revamp and I am wondering if this is part of a new strategy to breathe some life into some of the company's older games.

Whatever the decision, Lucky Twins Jackpot is now here to stay, so how does this three-reel version of the game stack up? We decided to take a closer look to find out.

Presentation

It is fair to say that Pulse 8 Studios have gone big on the whole 'gold' theme for this slot as the backdrop to the game Is just a massive mound of coins, with the occasional ingot located in among them. It is rather basic to be honest and in truth, I would have expected a little more, even from a 3-reel version of an older game.

The reels are designed to look something like a pagoda and they sit in the middle of the screen with the controls at the foot. You will play five pay lines on each spin, but you can wager from as little as 0.05 per game, which does make it one of the more affordable slots to play (or you can ramp things up and play for a maximum bet of 15.00 per spin if you prefer).

One big gripe for me is the sound. Other than a few sound effects, which trigger when you land wins on the reels, or hit the bonus game, the sounds used are simply generic sounds used on about 200 other older Microgaming slots. I really think in this day and age, even if you are trying to offer a retro-styled slot, that games would at least develop their own range of sounds, rather than falling back on this outdated offering.

What is on the reels?

Many of the symbols used in the Lucky Twins Jackpot slot are very familiar and they start with the five playing card low symbols. These run from the 10 through to the Ace and you can win between 3x and 7x your bet when landing three of these symbols across the reels.

The higher value symbols offer wins for 2 symbols or 3 symbols on a pay line starting on the leftmost reel and these include a bag of coins, a firecracker, a kite, and a rather satisfied looking Lucky Cat. Wins on these symbols range from 2x your bet up to 30x your bet.

The highest value standard symbol is the Lucky Twins symbol and if you land just one on the left most reel then you will win your bet back. Two will see you land 3x your bet but if you can land all three on a pay line then you can win 40x your bet.

Other than these symbols there are just two others on the reels and these link in ti the main bonus features of the slot.

Wild features

The Lucky Twins symbol is the Wild symbol in the game but it only appears on the second and third reels. As a result, you cannot win any cash for landing more than one Wild across the reels, although landing two on a pay line will give you access to some of the better value wins.

Wilds act only as a substitute in this 3-reel slot and it can substitute for any symbol on the reels, except for the Bonus symbol.

Free Spins features

Like the first Lucky Twins slot, there is no Free Spins bonus feature in the three-reel version of Lucky Twins Jackpot.

However, there is a jackpot feature which can be accessed by landing three of the Bonus symbols, which are the gold ingots (which look rather like hats) across the reels.

When you do this takes you to a screen where you must select from nine Fortune Cats that appear in each of the places reserved for the symbols on the reels. As you click on each cat an ingot will be revealed, either Bronze, Silver or Gold. When you have three of each ingot, you win the corresponding jackpot prize.

Three of the Bronze ingot offers you the Minor jackpot prize of 50x your bet. Three Silver ingots sees the Major jackpot landed of 300x your bet and lastly the Gold ingot will see you land the Grand Prize, which is 10,000x your total bet.

Best feature of the Lucky Twins Jackpot slot

The obvious best feature of the Lucky Twins slot is the bonus game. This gives you access to a chance at the three big jackpot prizes. What is nice is that no win in this game will see you earn less than your bet (the minimum win is 1x your bet) so at least when you hit a win, you know that you are at least getting your money back, or making some form of profit.

Conclusion

I have to admit to being a little underwhelmed by the Lucky Twins Jackpot slot. As a retro slot goes, you would need to prefer these very old and somewhat limited retro games to get much out of it. The prizes on offer are tempting, but the presentation is very basic and not very imaginative and there isn't really enough here to get your teeth into. For me, Lucky Twins Jackpot is a slot that doesn't really offer anything more than the 5-reel version of the game already offered, even with the addition of those jackpot prizes.

You can play the Lucky Twins jackpot slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.
