Miami Glow slot: The sound effects and neon lights will take you back to 1980s

I have to admit to being a Florida fan. If you are too, you can get a little taste with the latest Miami Glow slot from Snowborn Games for Microgaming.

The new Miami Glow slot from Snowborn Games is soon to be given a general release by Microgaming after a limited release across a number of casinos. It was the highlight of last week's Casino Rewards weekend promo, so the game is definitely available to play right now.

The slot captures the essence of 1980s Miami very nicely indeed with a rather understated but pleasant soundtrack, which reminds me of a pensive moments in the 1980s hit TV show Miami Vice.

Anyway this slot also comes packed with bonus features and also looks excellent with a simple, but eye-catching design. We had a play through on the slot (which you can see in the video linked to this article) and here is how we think it shapes up.

Presentation

Sometimes a slot can look effective with a very simplistic approach to its presentation and the Miami Glow slot is a great example of this. Rather than a night-time city backdrop, which is what I was expecting, instead you have a black screen which is punctuated with what looks like fern leaves which change colour. The reels are then lit in a neon 1980s style and the effect is excellent. You can almost see Don Johnson in his white suit drinking at the bar.

The sound effects and music are also very much in keeping with the 80s neon stylings of the slot and when you consider Miami's famous Ocean Drive and its Art Deco feel, this slot would fit right in alongside that. It isn't an easy thing to capture the essence of a city in the 1980s, but I think Snowborn have done it superbly well and in a nicely understated way.

Where can I play the Miami Glow slot?

You can play the Miami Glow slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos on the Where to Play page, Bonus page, Rewards page or Country page.

What is on the reels?

There are just eight standard symbols on the reels in the Miami Glow slot. The first of these are the four playing card suits, Club, Diamond, Heart and Spade. Each of these has been designed to resemble a neon sigh and the effect is excellent. Wins on these symbols range from 1/5 of your bet up to 3x your bet for five of the Spades or Diamonds across the reels.

The four higher value symbols are also neon sign-based and they are a pair of kissing lips, a pink flamingo, a cocktail and lastly a pink diamond. Wins on these symbols are much better value and range from 1x your stake up to 50x your stake for five of the pink diamond symbols across the reels.

Wild features

There is a standard Wild on the reel in the Miami Glow slot and this can see you land a win of up to 50x your bet. The others are Sticky Wilds and they can substitute for any of the symbols on the reels apart from the Glow symbol. They also offer the same high value wins across the reels as the highest standard symbol, the pink diamond (up to 50x your bet).

However, the real bonus comes when you land a Sticky Wild as it launches the Sticky Wild Respin feature. Here the Sticky Wilds remain on the reels and you can respin the reel for free. If you land another Sticky Wild, then you land another respin of the reels. You continue doing this and adding Sticky Wilds until you have a spin where no further sticky Wilds are added.

Wins in the Sticky Wild bonus and also during the base game can be enhanced thanks to the Multiplier Feature which can trigger on any spin and offer a win of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x the standard amount for that spin. The feature can trigger on base game spins as well as feature spins. The multiplier is shown on the left of the reels and will light up when it is activated on a spin.

Free Spins features

The Free Spin feature on the Miami Glow slot is a little disappointing to be honest. If you land the Glow symbol on the first, third and fifth reels, you receive just the one Free Spin. For that Free Spin, all Wild symbols are stacked and have the ability to cover all five reels at once, which could land you with a huge win.

Just the one Free Spin is a little disappointing for a Free Spins bonus round I have to admit, but the other bonus features on the slot, and the readiness with which they can be triggered, does soften the blow of a short Free Spins bonus.

Best feature of the Miami Glow slot

There are a lot of decent features on the Miami Glow slot. While I feel the Free Spins bonus is a little on the miserly side, with just one Free Spin, albeit with Stacked Wilds on each reel, I think the multiplier bonus triggering at random is a decent bonus but the best is the Sticky Wild respins bonus which can be responsible for some of the better value wins in the base game. In fact, for me, this is the feature that really makes the slot enjoyable. I also like the fact that it is not overly difficult to trigger the features on the game and that really does add to its broad appeal to players.

Conclusion

Miami Glow is a very nicely put together slot and although it has had a limited release at Casinos of late, it will be released more generally by Microgaming from the 2nd July. It is a higher volatility slot, but the different bonus features do make it feel like it is more player-friendly than a number of other high variance offerings. I think the simple design of the slot and the music and sound effects do drag you back to the Miami heyday. This is another eye-catching slot from Snowborn Games and a nice addition to their first title, The Vault.
